Saw AAF way back in the early 2000's lead singer asked how many people in the crowd had already purchased thier CD. A bunch of people raised their hand and he said "there thats good, if anyone else wants a copy just make one from these people" Love these guys
Remember that with Thursday too in 2006 when they got dropped from their record label and they encouraged everyone to illegally download their album :(
@@krakenscustoms you meant "master class"? ;D I agree with both of you. Mike Cosgrove is seriously underrated as a drummer. If only AAF had signed with a different label... :|
I'm surprised you haven't done an episode focused on Killswitch Engage. I know you've mentioned them plenty of times but I'd love to get the deep dive on them and their legacy.
“TruAnt” is an absurdly underrated album. If it had been recorded and released under a normal timeframe following ANThology and the label drama hadn’t happened, I think it would have been huge.
Cool video, but here are some other things I think you should have brought up (sorry to be that guy) - The 2015 album was supposed to be 3 albums with AAF being an acronym for "Always" "And" "Forever" but it fell through. Tye also left one year before and his credits were removed from the album. He also called Dryden a disgusting human being after when he ran into Dry at Mike's house (this was after he left) - Smooth Criminal was on Greatest Hits known as Slick Thief - AAF was kinda a supergroup in Riverside: Tye was in a band with his brothers called "The Color Red", Terry and Mike were in a band called Brother Vibe, and Dryden was doing some random stuff ig - BTW, that song you used at 3:44 is completely unknown and not even the the band themselves remember the name of it - Unfortunately Dryden (and the rest of the band to some extent) have always been weirdos - They already knew Papa Roach before Greatest Hits came out
One of the best live performances I've ever seen. It would've been somewhere in between 2006 and 2008. They opened for Papa Roach. Glad I got to see them.
God I feel old. Watching all these oldskool 90's and early 00's metal band's I grew up to in my late teens. Especially Korn, Limp Bizkit, Alien Ant Farm, Papa Roach, The Offspring, Linkin Park and Rage against the machine! It's so strange feeling nostalgic and old! 👍🤘
Movies, imo, is one of the best songs that came out of the 90s. And I finally get to see them this summer at Louder Than Life. Hopeful to hear it live. And Wish. And Courage. Lol
Great video, dude! I love a lot of Alien Ant Farm songs even past ANThology. The song ‘Forgive and Forget’ from Up In The Attic was always my favorite.
"These Days" is most definitely a banger, and the fact they crashed the BET awards for the video, making the top hip-hop artists of the time laugh & jam along is truly iconic and unrated.
I discovered them by their cover and bought the ANThology CD and liked almost every song on it and bought their first album as well and every album since. Heavily underrated
been a fan since "Movies". extremely underrated band. they straddled the pop-punk/nu-metal rail perfectly while also being very unique because to this day, no other band sounds like them...and this time i mean that in a good way! being "unique" doesn't always mean greatness. this band just sounds tight, even live. love me some AAF. great vid, Finn. 😎
AAF is one of those bands that we all know and can appreciate their insanely talented musical abilities, specifically the drum and bass grooves that were so infectious and catchy. However I think the reason they didn’t blow up into massive stars is the songwriting is hit or miss at times, also they lacked that “star power” that frontmen like Jacoby from PR had, for example. Also, their “quirky” and “weird” purposeful behavior in music videos and live performances seemed gimmicky at times, and basically solidified them into that one hit wonder label they hold to this day. I personally still enjoy and jam their music to this day.
only around 2024 will people cry about the singer doing something funny like a singer grabbing someone's hand and directing it toward his equipment. if this happened 10-12 years earlier i swear on my life EVERYONE would clown on YOU for making a big deal out of this. but because everyone now is terminally online and have to cancel everyone cuz they dont have anything better to do they just wait for someone to slightly do some eccentric behavior so they can verbally stomp you out as soon as they see it
Wait was Glow not a huge hit? Not sure about everywhere else but here in New Zealand Glow is definitely their biggest hit. Still gets heaps of airtime on the radio
Tye Zamora one of my biggest bass influences. I remember the reason I decided on my first washburn bass is because I thought it looked like his. The bass line on These Days was my high school band's opening jam every practice.
Hahaha I love how you mention the bands snare sound and pairing it up with modern hardcore drummers, that’s seriously so true. Gotta love that marching band, high pitched “POP” flare from the likes of the piccolo or soprano/popcorn snares 🤙
There's no way that either of those fans were actually upset by those two "hand incidents," the second one just saw the opportunity to make some money out of it!!! For the record, I would not do it! But Dryden is a good dude, not a deviANT. Alien Ant Farm are touring Australia in 2025, I am so keen!!!
They just played a show in my home town. I didn't get to go because I was working out of town. The people who went said the band was still really good live.
I gotta say I've always hated their Smooth Criminal cover with a passion, however, I saw them in person at Rockville a couple months back and thier show was actually super fun, and I had a great time. Mostly went for the meme, stayed and became a genuine fan
I bought their first 2 label releases and listened to them start to finish over and over again. The only song I would ever sometimes skip was Smooth Criminal; but only because I often listened to MJ's original; and the AAF cover was played to death. I've always felt the entirety of ANThology was a great album.
This is pretty fascinating. I really liked Anthology when it dropped and listened for several years. I was 12 when it came out and didn’t know the Michael Jackson song til I was probably 15 or 16, and remembered thinking covering that song must have been expensive from a licensing point of view when I was a bit older. I had no idea he had a hand in the music video and everything 10:12
I never hated them I just remember they showed up at a time when their was just so many groups coming out and I just didn't have time to get thru them all so I could only cherry pick songs till I had time to really listen to when these guys had to offer.
Man i used to party with these guys. I got so piss drunk on the party bus to the major CD release party. I musta been 15 at the time 😅 Dryden was always a weird guy. This band had so much potential. I've always loved AAF's sound, but i can kind of attest to Dryden being a little off. AAF played a "gazebo in a public park" summer show in my town (of about 45k) last year; definitely an all-ages type, kids-run-around-while-the-adults-chill scene usually, which made them kind of an unusual fit for this particular concert series to begin with. They put on a great show, but Dryden did drop a few f-bombs between songs (not that I in particular cared, but, hey, read the crowd) and just seemed kind of out there. He just had like an "edgy uncle" vibe to him
Alien ant farm is such an amazing band who I think deserved much better. I think if they were given the same effort from labels that papa roach got they’d be just as big as they were. I’m so glad they are back at it!

Nah, one hit wonder are sometimes just local legends. I grew up near Possum Kingdom Lake and have seen the Toadies twice at PK, once at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth, and once in Deep Ellum in Dallas, not once did they grab anyone's junk. The Movies was a good song. Fair to Midland and Slow Roosevelt were local legends with middling success when I was younger in the local music scene.

It’s one of the few perfect ‘time capsule’ albums that absolutely takes you back to a very specific moment in time when you were listening to it. Speaking of bands with close relationships (Papa Roach/AAF), could you do some research and a vid on Alexisonfire and Moneen?
