Your face while Wesley was reading his Bob books was hysterical. Every mom who has taught their kids to read knows that face. 😂 But then it is so rewarding when it clicks and they start really reading! I LOVE teaching my kids to read, but man, this stage does take the patience of Job. 😂 Good job, Wesley (and Julie!)!!!

We had a similar experience with the teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons and found teach your child to read in 20 lessons. The lessons are longer so we just did one or two pages at a time but the content was more manageable for early readers. Not such long readings.
Yes it’s around that halfway point that we really slow down! I find it combines well with The Good and the Beautiful LA, to help reinforce all of the phonics! 😊
@mamatofive1 when my youngest is ready to start reading I'll have to try that, it will be our first time using preschool and kindergarten TGATB 😊

Homeschool is becoming more restrictive in my country. I hope we can homeschool our little children too when we have some !
I was late to get to this video but how fun to see a full homeschool day in your home!
We were having this issue with 100 Easy Lessons as well. My some was 1st grade and we had been working on it slowly for 2 years but got really stuck a little more than half way through. So this year I bought Logic of English and even though it is a very sit next to your child type of curriculum, it is very thorough and simple and covers all of L.A. it's improved his reading skills tremendously! I think we'll do this same curriculum next year and then move on to something else. At least that's my plan as of now.💐
Oh I’m glad you’ve found a good fit! We really slow down on 100 easy lessons around the halfway point, and find that The Good and the Beautiful LA pairs well with it!
Ironically, today’s 100 Easy Lessons went amazing. He read the story in record time like a pro!

Wesley!!! You’re doing amazing! Reading and subtraction ❤ How is he that big?! I remember reading Bob books with my oldest. It’s so exciting (and at times painstaking 😜) to hear them reading.

Hi, Julie! You have so inspired me to switch our curriculum up this coming school year, and I've been binge watching all you homeschool vlogs! I'm going to purchase Gather Round but was wondering how many units to buy. We usually shoot for 160-180 school days, so when I do the math, I should need 8ish units, but then I heard your say that you do 4-5 units in a year. Your advice would be much appreciated, thanks!
Hey, Hannah!! We only do GR 4 days a week, and if we’ve only done four full units a year, it’s because we’ve done a couple of mini (holiday) units, too. This year, we’re going to complete six units. You also might find that some lessons will take more than just one day, so it’s nice to have some wiggle room.
I’d suggest to start with buying six, and then buy a couple more near the end of the year if you have time to add more!

I have another question. I noticed you have been using The Good and Beautiful for LA/Grammar, but do you find the need for a spelling curriculum as well?

I enjoyed this day in the life video and learning more about your kids homeschooling daily life❤ I love watching your kids learn their homeschool material, they are all doing amazing on their subjects. You’re such a great teacher and mom to your kids. Since you’re also your kids teacher, do you ever mess up the two and act like their teacher when it’s time to be their mom or vice versus? I’m just curious. ❤🥰

I am hoping to start gather around this fall with my kiddos. What units would you recommend? I will have a newly eight-year-old and a 5 1/2-year-old when we start.
I was a music teacher for 36 years and then I started subbing. I was subbing in 2nd grade and they were doing subtraction and they were doing this new system and I could not figure out how to do this way. I had to ask another student to help the student out.

You can buy it on its own, or as a set with the textbook, test pages, student notebook, and thumb drive. That’s how I purchased it all 😊

Do you like Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons better than Ordinary Parents guide to teach reading?
We much prefer 100 Easy Lessons! If your child is an older age learning to read like 7 or 8, the ordinary guide might work well. We have found that 100 Easy Lessons to be much more fun and age appropriate for kindergarten/grade 1. We pair it with The Good and the Beautiful Language Arts.
What printer do you recommend to print large amounts?

What’s world wide watch news? TH-cam channel?
It’s a subscription service, “World Watch News”. It is a Christian program, with daily news shown in a very neutral way, with Christian values as the core. They post a ten minute news segment every day Monday to Friday. The kids love it, and it’s a great way for them to be aware of what’s going on in the world around us, with news made FOR kids, nothing inappropriate for young ones.

Came across a little insincere. You asked the kid doing language arts what he had learned and immediately started talking over him when he started to tell you. The kid reading about the school bus, the video was cut and then he just said what you clearly had told him to say. Everyone teaches different though.
