Dr. B.S Ramakrishna (Gastroenterologist), speaks on Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis

Dr. B.S Ramakrishna (Gastroenterologist), SIMS Hospital, Chennai, shared his views on the occasion of World IBD Day that IBD is a condition where there are ulcers in the large and small intestine. He said IBD is a disease of modern civilization and it has increased rapidly in last 30-40 years. Children of very young age are also becoming the sufferer of IBD.
He explains the cause of IBD using "Hygiene Hypothesis" that since we are cleaner and hygienic from our childhood, our immune system becomes weak to fight infections. Our poor eating habits and diet are also responsible for causing IBD.
