How would I be able to make the trunk go back if I am making a bigger trunk I know I have to increase the bottom of the trunk like I would a sphere but to make the curve would I just use a ratio and count the stitches I have after increasing or do I use the number of stiches I used on the magic circle
For a bigger elephant, I would recommend using thicker yarn and a larger hook rather than scaling the pattern. But if you really wanted to scale the pattern, yes, you would need to use ratios to figure out how many increases and decreases are required and where to get the trunk right. If this is the case, I would highly recommend working the pattern in its original size first so you can see how it work and then doing all the math. But the easiest way is always going to be to use a bigger hook and bigger yarn and then following the pattern as written.
I would recommend going and checking out the written pattern as well. The video tutorials are designed to go along with the written pattern, so having that to look at will probably help. It can be found for free here: hookedbykati.com/2018/05/23/elephant-crochet-pattern/
The best way to know the next Stitch is to look straight down at the row or round and look for a V. There are a whole bunch of Vs all along the top, and each one is a stitch. You insert your hook under the whole V to work the stitch.
The body is a simple oval, so it does not have a video that goes with it. The complete written pattern is here: hookedbykati.com/2018/05/23/elephant-crochet-pattern/
Click the settings cog wheel, (top right of video) then click "playback speed " then click on 0.25x or 0.5x, and the video will run really s l o w l y.
