Harvey's death was originally left to the imagination after he fell off the cliff. Numerous test audiences wanted to see a more brutal ending for the character, so a last minute re-shoot was added, which shows him violently tumbling down the cliff side.
Good lol
I wanted to see him in the GROUND
@@MoviesinDepth LOL we all did
My reaction every time: HA! That’s what you get, bastard!
@@MoviesinDepth In the book they go into more detail about her death, and the mom is even worse in the book.
For his role as George Harvey, Stanley Tucci had his skin lightened, his chest and arm hair dyed to match his blondish-brown comb-over wig, and wore false teeth to alter his jaw line. He also wore blue contact lenses and a lentil-filled fat suit to widen his girth, all topped off with square-frame eyeglasses, a fake mustache and sideburns. Since Tucci was uncomfortable playing a child molester, he wanted to alter his appearance for the role as much as possible. The transformation works; Tucci looks suitably creepy for the role; not like his usual affable and humourous self. And he's also nearly completely unrecognizable.
The book is absolutely devastating and horrific. I read it when I was also 14. Yeah, was paranoid for a while after.
I can’t even imagine reading or watching this at that age.. it’s crazy!
@@MoviesinDepthI watched it when I was 15 and it was so sad 😢
Read it at 13. Wild. I was just having this conversation with my little brother earlier this year because he’s an avid reader and picked this up.
Oof, he struggled. Said he couldn’t imagine reading it at that age and honestly, I’m surprised it was my teacher who turned us on to it at the time.
Early 2000s were a hell of an era lol. Loved the book, though. The movie was very nice, but it’s almost impossible to capture everything in such a short time. I highly recommend checking out both.
4:08 They're not just dollhouses. They're exact replicas of real houses. So he'd know exactly where his victims were at all times.
Is that a detail from the book??? I don’t remember it in the movie
19:31 the flowers are wilted because he literally only watered them so he could spy on Susie
That is such an icky layer to add to this tragic sandwich 😫 I missed that detail
That hat is even more heartbreaking when you realize he shoved that in her mouth so she wouldn't scream.
……💔
Damn, Ive never thought of that. 😭
In Alice Sebold's original novel, a disturbing grape scene is recounted in great detail, an experience that Sebold had as a young woman. Writer, Producer, and Director Peter Jackson chose to omit this section of the story, feeling that the re-enactment of the ordeal would have not just overwhelmed this movie, but been too traumatic a sequence for the young Saoirse Ronan to endure. Alice Sebold reportedly disagreed with this omission. Stanley Tucci, for his part, claimed that it was difficult enough for him to play scenes in which George was thinking about molesting Susie, and that he never would have agreed to perform an actual grape scene.
I'm kind of glad they didn't include that scene even if the author disagreed. I feel uncomfortable with those kinds of scenes and I can usually watch some pretty horrific things but r*pe scenes are too much.
Apparently in the mall scene, you can see the killer 4 different times.
2:45 Sitting at a table. On the left.
3:02 Just walked right past the window.
3:14 Outside the record store when Ray walks in
🤢🤢🤢
I’ve literally never noticed him in the scene until this video!! I always look because I knew he must be there since she had mentioned him watching her but was never able to spot him!!
He's also at 2:45 at the bottom left leaning on a table watching suzie walking with her grandma..
And I'm pretty sure I saw him again aside from the times already mentioned...
Your wife and I had the same facial expression when I saw the movie choice. One time watch kind of movie
I totally get that! It’s a tough watch! ♥️
In the book, the dad is almost immediately obsessed with proving Harvey is the killer, and never wavers from it. As opposed to here where it takes him longer to figure out it was him.
Not to mention that his wife got so tired of him pursuing Mr. Harvey, he ends up cheating on him.
I’ve literally never noticed him in the background of the mall scene until you pointed him out!!! I’ve seen the movie so many times and I always try to look for him because I knew he must’ve been there somewhere but I never saw it!!! Thank you!!
RIGHT?? I didn’t notice at all until editing!!
Grandma Lynn talking about how a grown man kissing her is a subtle way of talking about grooming.
Possibly the movie saying Susie was predisposed to this happening.
the hauntingly beautiful & tragically saddest movie of my childhood. my mom showed it to me when I was younger as a way to warn me about strangers. I think it’s something every kid should watch to learn about the dangers of the world.
I know you’ll love this. ❤
love your reactions!! 😊
💎💜!!
Thank you so much for watching!!
Can't even lie I almost couldn't finish the book
Susies assault and death is described in so much detail in the book
I can’t even think about reading this story… it’s just crazy from start to finish in the movie alone
'depressing af' is exactly the description for this movie
I should have just made the video title that lol
Outfit she's wearing destroying the myth that she had to have been asking for it.
LOL, I was in the same outfit (without a coat bc it was spring and I was jogging), when I was followed and threated by a man. The clothes doesn't matter.
@Naphinel were both saying the same thing
Many of the details and the sequence of events in the movie differ from Alice Sebold's novel. In the novel, George Harvey dismembers Susie's body and disposes of it by dropping the safe in the sinkhole, immediately after the murder. But George accidentally drops her elbow, which is found by the Police, and forces the Salmon family to acknowledge her death earlier than in the movie.
26:35 That almost not quite quote is another reference to the book. And it's even sadder.
A couple finds her charm bracelet. One of them says, "The girl this belongs to is all grown up now.". And Susie narrates, Almost. Not quite.
27:11 The girls reaction here, to me, was a way to show that public opinion on "friendly strangers" was starting to change.
She never calls him by name. Just "my murderer"
As she should. He doesn’t deserve a name
This is proof of how much I enjoy your channel. I have avoided watching this movie for years, because I couldn't stand how much I hated seeing Tucci being so creepy and horrible. Great reaction. I am going to go now and watch Devil Wears Prada.
We allll make it through together!! Gotta get some comfort movies next!! 😂♥️
Oh NO The Lovely Bones is SO VERY creepy and SO VERY sad 😱😭 I watched it in the cinema when it was released, and once more 3 years after. I haven seen the full move since, only clips here and there because of everything that happens.
WE CAN DO THIS TOGETHER
@ Okay... Hang on I need a mug of hot cocoa and a blanket first
@@MoviesinDepth I watched it with you, so NOW I am gonna go and bury my face in a box of kleenex, after that I have to go and take a' blistering hot shower' to wash it away Stanley Tucci did a phenominal job of being super disgusting and creepy.
Stanley Tucci said the only reason he took this role was because it focused more on the family and their grief, and didn’t romanticize Harvey and his unaliving others.
Which so movies and shows about serial unalivers do.
Your wife is so right by saying it's a one-time-watch kinda thing. Haven't watched the full movie a second time, it just hits too close to home. But I enjoy to see what other people think of it. Thank you for the reaction!
She tried to save me but I just wouldn’t listen😂
9:30 I've made this note several times, but this whole bit right here was reminiscent of An Occurrence at Owl Creek bridge. Ever read that story?
All you need to know: guy is sentenced to death by hanging over a bridge. He drops into the water, and somehow the rope breaks and he survives, makes it all the way home. But right as he thinks he's home free, we cut back to the bridge, his neck snapped from the hanging, and he's dead.
I haven’t ever read that story before!
I just read that story a few months ago and still didn't make that connection.😅
Ahh so glad you watched this but im also sorry i put you through this by suggesting you watch it! 😂😂
It was worth the pain!!!
In the book, she comes home when the dad has a heart attack.
Both happened, but it's the heart attack that makes her come home.
My heart💔💔
Don't worry, Tucci felt really icky playing this role as well.
Oh I believe it. He was SO believable in it I forgot it was him a LOT!
Mark Wahlberg replaced Ryan Gosling just one day before shooting began. Gosling thought he was too young for the role, and as a method actor, thought his performance would suffer because of it. Wahlberg had just completed shooting The Happening, another production in Pennsylvania, and became available just in time to accept the role.
Wow, it must've been hard to step down from the role but good for him for not wanting to undermine the movie. I wonder how different it would be if he didn't.
7:27 I dont know if you noticed, but George Harvey's face isn't clearly visible until this point in movie, although he does appear, obscured, much earlier.
Also the book made it clear she's still suspicious, but not enough to walk away
27:26 Notice how she sounds more subdued? Resigned? Instead of happy-ish like in the beginning?
In the beginning when she says, "Like the fish.", it sounds cute. Like a kid. But when she says it again in the end, it's like she's not even trying to sound happy anymore.
in the mall scene, you can see the killer 4 different times.
2:45 - at the bottom left leaning on a table watching suzie walking with her grandma..
3:02 - Just walked right past the window.
3:14 - Outside the record store when Ray walks in
And I'm pretty sure I saw him again aside from the times already mentioned...
Pay attention to everything you see in the in between. You can see details that hint at something else. The hat. The ball. The sprig of holly. The flute.
Those dogs actually belong to some of the filmmakers.
That is so adorable and haunting at the same time
I like how you were coaching the girl telling her she was smarter than this and coaching her through the situation
19:58 This actually took place in the beginning of the book. Except she tried to make this happen, but nothing did. But the dad still felt something.
I don't get why some people think Lindsey considered not handing over the evidence. She'd just decided not to right that second.
I figured it would be she realized that second wasn’t the right moment but she would in the end no matter what👏
@@MoviesinDepth Yeah, I just assumed she didn't want to ruin her parents reunion, especially considering why the mom left in the first place.
Tuccis performance here is based off of Dennis Rader, the BTK Killer.
This was so emotional love seeing mid’s perspective on the movie ❤
Thank you for watching!! ♥️♥️♥️
My little brother watched this movie when I was 16-17 and it hurt him so much . He was afraid for me for years
..it’s a scary world out there!
18:06 The guy kissed her outside an abandoned house, and decided he was going to fix it up so they could live in it.
Ohhhhh that makes more sense
Omg I'm so damn happy you decided to upload this one today!! ❤😊 I love your reactions everytime! ❤
Oh my gosh thank you so much for watching!!! That just made my day!♥️♥️
absolutely 💯 it's the truth you deserve more followers and your a natural at entertaining people ✨️🥰@MoviesinDepth
I remember reading the book in high school during my English class. After reading about Susie's death, I sort of just skimmed the book and put it back on the shelf. It’s hard to read books like The Lovely Bones and 13 Reasons Why. It made me so sad for days.
Very fair!!
20:26 And this scene took place years later, when they said they were stopping the investigation.
My sister had me read this when I was really young and I won’t lie, it scared everything out of me but it’s still one of my top reads to this day because of how it just shakes your soul
26:51 The book had them having sex.
And by this point in the book, her body was already in the sinkhole. I always thought changing it to this was to imply she didn't care about getting revenge anymore.
Oh and you can be happy about this:
Stanley Tucci made it a point to spend time with Saoirse Ronan after every scene they had together, to make sure she was okay.
That’s the Tucci I know and love
No surprise here: the in between was mostly shot in Peter Jackson's homeland, New Zealand.
I was 16 when I first saw this quite a few years ago and it disturbed the hell out of me. I know it wasn't super gruesome or anything but thinking about the situation itself and everything that happened just made me physically ill, upset, and extremely sad. I don't know how I got through the whole thing. Its hard to comprehend that these kinds of things actually happen in our very screwed up world.
Seeing this at that age.. I couldn’t imagine
"so this movie is gonna destroy me right?"
Me: Right
"Big time?"
Me: Uh huh
"Yeah?"
Me: Oh, Completely sweetie
HAHAH I needed this
I'M NOT CRYING YOU'RE CRYING
WE’LL MAKE IT THROUGH THIS
16:36 In the book, the dog barking happened with the dad.
I watched this when I was 14 years old. The same age as Susie when she died. I was an absolute wreck. I watched true crime and horror films, so I understood what happened to her and the other girls. When I tell you I ugly cried.
I saw this in the cinema when it came out! Had no idea it was Stanley Tucci til a few years ago! He played that creep so well 😬
Idk how I ended up watching this as a tween, so I've definitely always remembered this one. Very underrated film, I'm glad it's begun to get a little more attention over the years ✨️
It defff needs more attention! I hadn’t heard about it until I watched it!
The in between place is actually significantly different from the book: Here it's made clear you're not supposed to stick around. In the book, you're allowed to so long as you eventually do move on.
I’m terrified and intrigued to read the book some day
hey next time maybe you can do Grave of the Fireflies or Schindler's List ya masochist 🤣
… WHY
@@MoviesinDepth No no, try The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, then you’d be a masochist lol
@KrystalAnn0688 are you kidding? Go for the Zone of Interest. That one is at least historically accurate!
6:14 That guy and Susie were both in another movie, the Host, together.
I still haven’t seen the host!
I saw this movie twice in the theatre. I saw things in this movie that I think most westerns don't, because, I am a Buddhist. Thanks for the reaction.
This movie traumatized me as a kid. I was 12/13 when I first watched this and was terrified that this was going to happen to me. Also, the part where the sister is in his house is so anxiety inducing.
Why did I decide to watch the movie reaction at 3:00 in the morning, yeah I’m not going back to sleep now after this one . Lmao 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
I’m on that late night timing as well😂
The sounds like a mint line was a reference to "Oddfellows", a popular brand of mint in New Zealand, where Peter Jackson is from.
I've noticed that in the past couple of years, you've watched nearly all of the Dr. Seuss movies. However, there's only one left out there that you haven't reacted to yet and needs to be reacted to. That movie being Horton Hears a Who with Jim Carrey (yes, Jim Carrey was in another Dr. Seuss movie that isn't The Grinch 😂) and Steve Carell.
Deffff on the list for sure!!
I bust out crying every time I watch this movie
And I don’t BLAME YOU♥️♥️
If you haven't already, you need to watch My Sister's Keeper. It's a really good movie, too! I had a phase of watching The Lovely Bones over and over again just because of how beautiful it is. I would cry every time I saw the ending with all the girls that he murdered.
I haven’t seen that yet!!
@ I recommend it!! :)
26:45 - it's because Susie's first... "touch" was a... so, Harvey took her innocence against her will.
And this scene is the opposite: the pure love, not the fear.
I was... also harmed like Susie, and after all that sh... the first s.x with my (now) fiancé was sooo different :)
Honestly I was freaked out, bc of my past experience, but nothing bad happened. He loves me, takes care of me, and never ever hurts me.
my mom let me watch this with her when i was a child and i was both devastated and traumatized. i was 8 😂
YOU WERE 8?!?!?
@ unfortunately 😂
"Oh it's worse than I thought"
Me, who has also seen it maybe once or twice like your wife: Oh it gets WORSE
My second favorite movie and book
Brinnnng the tissues!
I watched this movie when I was 13 and I knew in that moment it was a watch it once, feel it, and never watch it again. It was so good I even bought the book but I could bever bring myself to read it
When I saw the notification for this video I though "Evan, Why?" Your wife's reaction was right, but "sad" isn't the right word. More like "vile".
My parents chose to watch this together when I was little…… I was traumatised
My favorite movie of all time.❤ I really love this movie so much and it makes me sad that it’s so hated. This movie is incredible.
Yesss♥️♥️♥️
Oh god the lovely bones..I had the same reaction as your wife. It was a lot and made me paranoid but devastating since these sick people unfortunately exist. I cried and I know there’s a book too which I got from my sister (I don’t remember if she read it or not lol) but I don’t think I can bring myself to read it.
Addddd me to that club👏
@@MoviesinDepth we welcome you to the club 😭👏
17:48 It was actually a winery. And she got herself a boyfriend while she was out there.
Really??
I saw the title card and instantly said "Oh no!"
Please tell me it was the Michael Scott version or the monkey meme lmao
Can you please make a reaction of the Iron Giant in the future? 🙏
It is def on the list!!♥️👏
This is the first book I have ever had to put come and back to.
My friends and I were reading it (early teens or so) and us all having to sit down with our moms to explain...awful. (I am 35) and getting older....our poor parents. Time to disillusion our daughters.
I don’t BLAME you!!♥️
Please react to "Spirit: Stallion of The Cimarron"! 😱😭💔🔥
Someone took me to see this movie when I was younger as a first date 😂
I’m sorry…. HUH
@ there wasn’t a second date… but had mostly nothing to do with the movie
Amazing movie but for a while every time i saw it all i could think about was how the writer falsely accused a black man of being her r@pist (he was in jail for years because of that). Thank God he was exonerated in 2021, and now I blame the cops who made her believe it was him.
I'm pretty sure it was one of those case where the public/media demanded justice, and since the cops couldn't find the real culprit, they framed the first black man walking by.
That is crazyyyy! I had no idea that even happened!
@@MoviesinDepth me neither he spent 16 years in prison because they denied his parole (5 times) since he didn't want to admitted he did it. He was released in 1999 and was registered as a s3x offenders until 2021 (when they system admitted he was innocent).
The author apologise and even say her memoire "Lucky" that talk about the attack and all will not be distributed anymore. That's why i don't blame her, she was a victim + since the man was innocent her real r@pist was never arrest.
The system failed both of them in the end.
Hmm a movie I’ve never seen that is sad…🤔 best movie for me to watch on Valentine’s Day
You and me both!!😂
i read this book when i was 10 years old. absolutely traumatizing. i’m glad to know it’s as horrible as i remember it being.
I watched it for the first time when I was 4 cause it just started on the tv that I had on my room and I just kept watching.. I was not okay during the whole movie but I just needed to know how it was gonna end 😭
Greetings from Chile
Omg that is crazy!! Thank you so much for watching!!♥️
This is a tragical tale, and a sick movie at the same time. It's up there with the movie. It's time to kill. But damn. Good reaction for the lovely bones.
Thank you so much!!!
1:28 Watch Brooklyn too! Shes FANTASTIC!
I watched this movie when i was like 8
3:27 Is that the same woman that plays as the teacher in the Adam Sandler film That’s My Boy?
I think so!!
This movie was very heartbreaking 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
YES
The book tells you what happens to her it was a hard read I still haven’t finished it
... are we ignoring that hes suddenly *JACKED*?
😂😂♥️♥️
Ooo this one leaves you a wreck.
Watch Speak next 😜😅
Ohhhh lord lol
I read the book before seeing the movie and this is absolutely dark
Beyond dark
@@MoviesinDepth for sure!
In the book the mom was also sleeping with the cop 🙄
WHAT?!
Ps markie mark is from Boston, not Chicago.
I’m gonna insert every northern accent lmao
So we’re watching traumatic movies now? May I recommend some?
The Black Phone
The Colour Purple
Blood Diamond
Prisoners (2013)
This movie screwed with me after we read the book in school. Which makes me wonder, what teacher thinks it's okay for us to read this I don't know then again we read the Diary of Anne Frank. Anyway, even after knowing what happened and reading about it "which was worse" I still wished for a better ending. Anyway I love your reactions I can't wait for the next one.
Thank you so much for watching!! I can’t believe they read this in school.. but also it could serve as a good learning tool to not talk to people you don’t know♥️
@@MoviesinDepth True but in the world we are in today, that message walks a very thin line.
yessss watch ladybird!!!
OOOOOH DONT you tempt me!!♥️👏
@ yes do it pleaseee 😽🙏🏽
please watch barbie in a mermaid tale its my fav barbie movie

Nooo I can't watch this reaction 😭

Hi i'm new here and can you watch that animated feature film no one remembers.
"Eleanor's Secret" (2009)
Glad to have you here!! I’ll definitely take a look into it!♥️
@@MoviesinDepth Ok and before you do...
I know that your videos are not 1 hour long due to some scenes cut.
Atleast first time watching have moment of Angelica caught Nat(shrunked) with Alice, White Rabbit and Ogre at her own Kite and her quote "I've never had a "little" little brother.🤭"
