Shabatura Produce employs 250 offshore workers from Mexico. The large-scale operation produces a wide variety of labour-intensive fruit and vegetable crops. They employ entire families - fathers, sons, and brothers - to help with the harvest.
Trejo & Rodriguez make it clear that the opportunities given to them at Shabatura have resulted in a better life for themselves and their families back home.
Many of their migrant workers possess strong skill sets, landing some of them in management positions on the farm. “They all know exactly what they’re doing,” says Tiffany, one of the assistant managers. “Without them, we’d be at a huge loss.”
