*I will not make Thomas the Tank Engine.* As mentioned in this video, I have no interest in making one. I'm sure plenty of other people have made him, though, so definitely search & browse around if you want to see some!

That's fair enough, the face is most important feature and that's never going to be quite right in Lego!

As much as I'm a hardcore Thomas fan. I respect your decision of not building one.
Beside, Making a Lego Thomas is hard.

If you have plans to make any more steam tank engines, I would suggest either doing the GWR Pannier Tank or the 14XX Tank. They're very nice looking and pose the possibility of a simple looking yet complex design when building them. I've constructed a 14XX with ideas from Scot-Nick's design and it looks nice on my layout, but I know how you like being original and may want to do your own. Happy building ;)

DalekSupremeWithCheese Have you seen the one that was on Lego Ideas a while back? That 14xx and autotrailer was really impressive and based off the one on the South Devon Railway!

I have to say I love the idea of artificial limitation in regards to the types of pieces you use, from my experience I've found that my best MOC's and ideas come when I'm presented with limited methods of achieving what I want. It's when you're presented with those situations that you start to think outside the box in respect to the implementation / use of bricks. Love the videos , keep up the good work!

  • @trainboy7

You could probably rebuild this one day with the new powered up parts so you can control this train via Bluetooth.
Once Lego has released all the other powered up parts later this year that is.

I feel like one very small, quick change you could make to improve the overall accuracy would be to replace the grey technic stopper pieces at the end of the connecting rods at the front with yellow ones. That would be a nice nod to the yellow ends of the cylinders on the "real" model. Love this like everything you do Jang! You're a constant inspiration to us Lego mortals.

You're correct in saying that Thomas the Tank Engine is overdone, but it's rarely done well. I'd love to see someone with your building skill try to build Thomas!

I think it looks fantastic, well done. Would you consider putting stickers on the large boxy rear of the tank engine? perhaps just to streamline or detail it a wee bit more

Great build! I love trains, and this one in particular was one of my favorites. Quick question, would you ever consider building the Casey Jr. Circus Train? You know, the train from Dumbo that got turned into a ride at Disneyland? That's my favorite train from my childhood and would love to see it in Lego form, however I do not possess the pieces or the skill. I know you are busy but it is such a fun design and would go well with this train. Anyways, great video as always, Jang!

I think it's great, I think it's great, I think it's great. Really good MOC of something that I haven't really seen people build much of, mostly accurate with very few details off, and it's cool you found a relatively recognizable steam engine that's not Thomas, not that Thomas isn't cool. Awesome and super nostalgic build, keep up the great work!

I normally watch your Lego Space and Lego Star Wars reviews, but this was an entertaining video and an impressive MOC. Interesting seeing the time lapse build footage for the insights into the changes you had to make.
What's the red and black locomotive we see at about 7:06? An official Lego set or one of your MOCs? It's one I wouldn't mind having in my own collection! :-)

Now, I saw "tank engine MOC" and immediately started freaking out with the blue in the thumbnail.
It's not my favorite blue tank engine, but it's definitely a memorable one, and I fondly remember watching the cartoon way back when.
They remade it in CGI with a caboose voiced by that guy who voiced Kronk in "The Emperor's New Groove". Wasn't a huge fan of that iteration.
Do like how well this turned out, and the challenge adhered to for this particular engine. Shame you aren't going to go about Thomas (or Percy perhaps, could use a little more green around the railroad), but I bet you'd pull him off in fine style if you did.
Also, excellent job with getting the pistons to move the way they do. Adds a special bit of that charm from the animated feature to it. I like that.

Hey, now that you have two small steam locomotives, why don't you build a larger one for freight or passenger service? I suggest a 4-6-2 Pacific, as the type was used for both passenger and freight. Some sort of articulated steam locomotive would be awesome too, although they were used exclusively for heavy freight.
