My California town still does that, guess that’s why our hills don’t catch on fire Our wharf did collapse into the ocean last month though, so our safety is still kinda lacking…
Check the most current videos that are out, filmed by people just like us. These videos VERY CLEARLY SHOW PEOPLE SETTING FIRES TO BUILDINGS AND SHRUBS AND TREES.
I would love to explain how conservative leadership would eliminate California wildfires?! We’ve had many Republican governors out here and that never prevented fires. I don’t think you can politicize this.
DEI on DISPLAY! Her and the fire chief. Decades of one party rule has finally physically destroyed a city. And it's irreplaceable. You will never see those house styles those unique American historical buildings are gone forever! Good job there California! Will anybody be held responsible? Anyone! Probably not. All those CA people that pay high taxes, work hard, vote Newsom and now have LOST EVERYTHING. Consider some are blaming "fossil fuels". This just lacks just basic sense.
The real problem is that these types of fires did NOT happen 50 plus years ago for 3 simple reasons: [Forest Thinning, Forest Floor Cleaning and Fire Breaks] FIRST, FOREST THINNING - When the federal government was managing the forests, they would attempt to obtain the "optimum tree density" which is ~100 trees per acre. When the state of California took over forest management (and were paid billions a year to do so), the thinning operations STOPPED! Presently, many of the forests are well over 1000 trees per acre which means that it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to STOP the spread of a fire until it reaches a fire break or the peak of a mountain! SECOND, CLEANING FOREST FLOOR - The debris on the forest floor is extremely flammable and must be removed to be able to stop the spread of a fire. This has NOT been done for decades which creates a tremendous fire HAZARD! THIRD, FIRE BREAKS - As a child, (1960s) I remember watching the "D9 cats" plowing fire breaks in the grass land. These fire breaks SUCCESSFULLY STOPPED the spread of fires! The state of California STOPPED creating fire breaks both in the grasslands and the forests ~50 years ago! This was IRRESPONSIBLE and DANGEROUS! Please note that NONE of these actions presents a negative environmental consequence! And the forest thinning and debris clearing can be very profitable. (Lumber, Wood products, and Energy production) The only reasons that these 3 actions were stopped were: Tremendous Corruption, mis-management, Irresponsible politics and policies, and absurd, pseudo-science-based, FALSE environmental claims. [The pseudo-environmentalists and pseudo-activists do not want anyone to "touch the forest" when they have DESTROYED the environment where they live by covering everything with asphalt and concrete! These Frauds are TOTALLY IGNORANT, arrogant, corrupt, and abusive bullies...And HYPOCRITES! Of course the horrific failure to respond appropriately is the direct result of total mis-management, corruption, and incompetency on the part of state and local governments! The governor, LA mayor, and LA county board of supervisors are all totally incompetent and corrupt! [BTW - I am a retired research engineer, 3 engineering degrees, (Top of class) graduate school at Stanford University, ~200 post graduate credits, And numerous peer-reviewed publications.]
Clear, and total common sense…..like saying, “water is wet” Get those in “charge” take measures that everyone with a brain can see will cause serious problems and harm…..but even in the face of such information, they think they know best. The level of leader in the west over the last 20 years has been nothing short of shocking. This cannot, simply cannot be accidental. The decisions they make regarding economy, infrastructure, immigration, environment and basically everything else is so poor that even the most incompetent person would do a better job by accident…..this is deliberate and systematic.
That's why ZERO Federal Funds should be used to clean this up. Californians, and Californians ONLY, should be financially burdened by this disaster. It was 100% preventable, but California keeps electing these useless Democrats. NO Federal $ for this.

Come on, Ben! Don't you know that here in California, DEI, homeless rights, defunding the police and fire, and taking care of our beautiful illegal immigrants is MUCH more important than public safety?
You probably should get started to band all the conservative locations to get moving on having a separate state.. could be north and south California or something like that.. Break up those 54 electoral votes
My parents lived near Yosemite and my dad, blew the leaves and Pineneedles every day to keep the ground clear. Cut down trees that were a fire hazard too. Simply doing his part kept them safer from fires. It’s not rocket science.
Exactly. I studied forestry in college. This was complete incompetence. And the main issue is not just clearing of the forest floors and controlled fires, it’s the above ground electrical wires. They have been told numerous times to put the lines underground. Infuriating!
I’ve lived in Ca most of my life and everyone knows when the Santa Anna winds come. The extreme danger of fires and the Mayor leaves the country, absolutely insane.
I’m confident Californians will continue to vote for the same level of incompetence after this disaster. Because, you know, feelings means more than facts.
As Californians, we didn't vote for stupid. Stupid ignores us and prioritizes the "minority" over and over - it's more important to make everyone feel special rather than be LOGICAL, it seems.
California votes for the same Democrat party over and over again, the Democrats have had a super majority for years! so if you vote Democrat then YES, you absolutely voted for stupid! Take some responsibility. You get the government that you voted in.
As a resident of Santa Monica, the thing I'm most afraid of as much as losing my home, is the aftermath of dealing with the Santa Monica & State of CA bureaucracy that is soul-crushing!
Santa Monica was a beautiful place I grew up in west wood/west LA. I spent most of my childhood on 3rd street promenade going to matinees had my first job at Santa Monica mall and then the pier. Sad how run down it’s becoming
The lack of brush management is particularly egregious. 18 year old forestry majors in their first year of their undergrad know that you have to deal with the brush or it becomes kindling for a bigger fire. These people are so confident in their incompetence that when they have no clue about how manage their forests they don't even listen to experts or even journeymen in forest management.
@@deborahfreedman333 when you refuse to pick up leave, or take care of dead brush to "conserve the environment" and it's very dry and windy the small brush fires spread. These fires often start outside heavily populated areas, catch the bigger trees, and spread to more populated areas. If you don't manage the brush in the more sparsely populated areas you get this kind of devastation.
@deborahfreedman333 it has little to do with personal landscaping, this is a weak argument that ignores how wild fires spread. They tend to start on land managed by the state or local government and spread to residential areas after they get too big to contain. Your personal landscaping does nothing but the lack of brush clearing on public lands leads to this.
I don't have any sympathy anymore. I voted red. My vote doesn't get a voice here in Cali. All the peeps who voted blue are to blame. What a bunch of dummies.
Yes I agree with you, I’m a RED voting veteran and the idiots voting these people into power are infuriating. I also believe that most of these fires are caused by homeless encampments & mismanaged forest brush. I have lots of sympathy for those who are homeless but when their actions put people and communities in danger, something needs to be addressed.
You know… our forefathers also had to suffer major fires because, say, the materials the buildings were made of at the time were very flammable, or the spacings of buildings being too close together wasn’t something they understood as being a hazard yet. BUT AT LEAST THEY NEVER RAN OUT OF FREAKING WATER WITH WHICH TO FIGHT THE FIRE WITH!!!
I was saying this for 35 years about California there nuts it used to be great when i was young 16 years old in 1970 but look at in now that is climate change Iam sick of hearing of this shit.
Palisades is gone. Parts of Malibu are as well, including restaurants there since before most of us were born. And before people roll their eyes and shrug because of wealthy homes burning down, most of these fires have taken away homes and jobs from working class folks all over. It's a disaster. I'm from LA and have lived through countless fires...nothing was ever close to this in terms of devastation in the LA county area. This breaks my heart.
@HailMary888 nope, they estates that just burned to the ground are owned by the elites. This did not help them one iota. Most of the land being burned to the ground will never be worth more than it already was.

Back in 1986 my military husband applied to be a firefighter (California), which meant going through a physical process to see if he could do the job. He broke some kind of record for the time it took to carry a huge fire hose up a ladder into a building. I was proud of him but a woman of color was chosen for the job instead. During the testing process she wasn't expected to have the same strength or do the same job which made no sense. Her expected time was lowered for carrying that same hose, which my husband broke the record, because she was a woman. He said she struggled with the task because she just wasn't strong enough. She was hired not because she was the best qualified, but because she looked a certain way. How safe is that for the community? He was told by a firefighter that it was required of them to hire her, even though she was not really qualified, and they apologized to him and hoped he'd try again later. We moved back east.
@@seekingjoynow1722I doubt he’ll resign, but at least this will probably cost him the next gubernatorial election and kill his chances of the Dem nomination for 2028. Although it might actually be a good thing if he won the nomination, because he’s so far left that he stands no chance in a general election.
Voted for the junks for years. Natural disaster accelerated with disastrous governments, nothing to worry, just poorer, more corruption and more abortion. Trans completion final stage.
I live in California, I love my State, and when I say that I mean the geographical area and many many good people in the State. But sadly, the majority of the governing body starting from the governor down are proving what it says in the Bible “you reap what you sow”.
And who do you think brought you that diversity? Sane exact ones who brought it to Europe and sure wasn’t anyone with and Italian or Irish last name that sounds like phlegm when you attempt to say it 🧐
That's a misrepresentation of their views though. It's a mix of both mismanagement and global warming. It's not as though the fires could have started with just mismanagement alone, right?
@ California has had wild fires for years. Overall we have gotten greener. There is record of California not using forest clean up funds for forest clean up. We can be 100% green and they will still have fires and blame everyone but their own government who misappropriates funds and cuts fire fighting budgets.
@@khanghoutan4706yes it is only mismanagement, fires on even bigger scale than this one have been happening in California for centuries, then they somehow got lower by a huge margin, then after G.F., COVID and Public services defunding somehow fires are growing back to the scale they naturally had a few centuries ago
It even applies to utility linemen. Being carried off a pole or out of a manhole isn't easy. Glad I retired before incompetent women became commonplace.
It looks like California can’t afford to be too picky these days 😬😬 (Not disagreeing because you’re totally right but it sounds like they need all the help they can get…)
Time to blame the voters folks, I'm tired of everyone blaming the Democrat politicians which everyone knows are useless. The Voters got their results and i feel for those who did not vote for those in office.
Guys come on, I don't know what else Bass could have done. She fostered the removal of merit based hiring in nearly every government agency and public service position. Do you know how much work that is? She realized how difficult it is for the countless horde who choose to be homeless and made it legal to steal nearly $1k per attempt. These people would otherwise have to find a way to leave the camps and hovels embedded in the underbrush of LA. And did you know there is a small fish that could have experienced reduced population if LA stored water in their reservoirs? Karen boldly ensured the LA water supply was flushed into the bay. So many fish now guys! And when people said CA should clear the fuel from forest and brush areas she realized how wrong this was because the orange man agreed with it and thus made sure to avoid it. Thanks to Bass, LA is absolutely bursting with Smelt, underbrush, homeless, and theft. I really don't know what she could have done to cause more of any of it! Oh, the fires? I live in the Bay Area, California for over 40 years. Politics aside, California is a dry, scrub brush place and not much rain. Its always been like this. The problems are very complex but one of the issues is that people are living and building in very fire prone areas and there is inadequate money spent on clearing brush, controlled burns and forest management. CA spends most of their budget on social services and state employees. Unions control the state completely and is the reason Bass got elected. Tens of billions were spent on the "train to nowhere".. just a payoff to union workers to keep voting democrat. We get what we vote for.
It absolutely was not always a dry, brushy environment. Circa 1950s and 60s, the mountains had numerous small waterfalls and the high desert had lakes. Lakes were drained to supply water to Los Angeles. Mountain tourist traps clear cut forests in competition with rich folks wanting vacation homes which, of course, needed water and water features. Roads had to be widened and upgraded, so more trees cut and streams diverted. Smog wiped much of trees below +/- a couple thousand feet elevation. Did you know there was a rail line from San Bernardino mountains to the beach cities? A cabal of car dealers convinced several city councils to get rid of the rail so people would have to buy cars. Soon, rail cars were dumped in the Santa Ana River, railways were paved over, and people were on the move. Destroying environmebts as they traveled.

The decisions they make regarding economy, infrastructure, immigration, environment and basically everything else is so poor that even the most incompetent person would do a better job by accident…..this is deliberate and systematic.
One more simple reason: 50 years ago DEW was not being used to start "wild" fires. Gotta clear the way for all those 15 minute cities, right??

The lack of brush management is particularly egregious. 18 year old forestry majors in their first year of their undergrad know that you have to deal with the brush or it becomes kindling for a bigger fire. These people are so confident in their incompetence that when they have no clue about how manage their forests they don't even listen to experts or even journeymen in forest management.
that was Jasper. People spoke out about the dead trees for years and our goverment refused to listen or act
Very well said.
So, you're not allowed to have any landscaping? These fires are not in wildernesses, but areas where many people live.

I agree. Total waste of money. And look at all the vacations Biden has taken. He was hardly ever in office doing his job. Why do people put up with this.
This was going on in the 80s? Yeesh. I'm actually surprised this catastrophic fire didn't happen way earlier.

These people would otherwise have to find a way to leave the camps and hovels embedded in the underbrush of LA. There have been brushfires (and mudslides) in So Cal going back to the early 60s, the difference is there are millions more people now and buildings as far as the eye can see.

L.A. had an extensive rail system, all electric. Ruined by the greedy.
@@Bobby-mg1uj It all comes down to power and money and who can get the most of it, doesn't it? I think it works this way in all societies BTW - capitalism/socialism it doesn't matter. It's all about human greed, arrogance, lack of foresight, and sheer stupidity.
I live in Australia...fire country and we go through this every bloody year. Burn offs are needed in areas like this and fire breaks.....but not once ever have we never had access to water. It blows my mind. Helicopters, planes will pump from damns private and company, pools and any damn river. We always have water to defend properties unless your on tank water. Your fire fighters not having water to do their job is heart breaking. Right now where I am in Tassie it's 30 degrees + and storms forecast. The choppers have been flying around most the day checking for spot fires

Newsome saying the Santa Ana winds aren’t normal this time of year is an absolute lie.
They're normal but never 100mph.
Almost never but ....
@denp54z the Santa Anas happen at this time of year pretty often actually
I'm sorry for the fires destroying anyone or anything in its path. This affects more than those who lost homes in California. The insurance companies told me last year they didn't want to insure my property because of fires in California and Arizona. Although I got fire insurance now, the amount was less than I owe. Plus I paid $400 more than previous year. 😢
California needs to change their water and fire management policies .
There is no excuse for not having reservoirs full of water to be prepared to fight fires.
We literally have an OCEAN of the stuff.
They are full and have plenty of capacity to supply hydrants for weeks or months on end. The issue isn't a lack of reservoirs, it's the fact that water-mains are universally designed to only handle a few hydrants running at any given time.
@@johnperic6860 looks like your statement is inaccurate based on Gavin Newsom investigating the reservoirs not being full.
A democrat telling us someone is “fully engaged” is immediately suspect.
Good point. I also love the verbiage “we are continuing to do the work” when they clearly have not done the work or are planning to do any work
Oh they are fully engaged in something.......shady.
I work in Los Angeles and this has been horrific for the poor and working class. Lives are ruined.
It is awful but I’m pretty sure that all these poor and working class voters voted for the leadership in California which are experts at pointing fingers! I hope they learn their lesson, sometimes something tragic has to happen for people to open their eyes.
Cut $ to fire department,
Emptied levees,
Turned off hydrants,
Refused to clean up forest tree debris,
Voted in a fire-chief because they are a part of the alphabet gang, because thats their priority, INSTEAD OF COMMON SENSE.
We experience insane winds, and yet zero preparedness even after being told over and over again!
I say with all honesty good luck people of California, you voted for this, you got it, please in future listen to the opinions of those you don’t agree with, there is two sides always
Trump says “a tiny little fish,” and the headline over at Vox reads “why does Trump hate the Delta smelt so much?” 🙄 TDS is real.
The saddest thing is this was preventable and californians voted for this. We should absolutely have sympathy for those affected, but this was preventable.
They keep voting for this crap they re elected Newsome remember they HAD A CHOICE they get $750 cause that's what the Hurricane and Maui got period. California never helps they are the 5th largest Economy on the PLANET
Remember, California has more Republicans than any other state. There are just a lot of idiots there sadly. There are millions of people there that vote against these terrible policies.
I'll have sympathy for them after I see how they voted.
We elderly conservative voters are often stuck here because of health problems and limited assets. We have more reason to despise the Left than anyone.
@@FirstLast-c9rthen leave. You are welcome here in Texas
But consider how prescient California is to have undoubtedly diverted millions of funds to employ trauma counselors to assuage the effects of their literally disastrous policies.

My local firefighters fought a 7 alarm fire last night for 1hr and 23 minutes in 50 mile per hour winds, and in freezing 11° temperature, no hydrant ran out of water.
That sucks I can't tell you how many times we've had to refill our pump trucks below freezing while they're working trying to save a home or business

That mayor is completely worthless! That is incredible. Seems to be a thing now. Mayor of town I live in is the same way. Our mayor's for past 15 years have been worthless and spent money on stupid ideas and have made a lot of bad decisions.
The good news is NEWSOM IS DONE, FINISHED, CAPUT. it is so sad things had to get this bad. I live in California and did not vote for him. Voted Red since 2016. Can’t wait for Trump to take power.. Thank you for your great coverage.
Yeah ok
Save California and vote Red for all state elections
Gavin HairGel just can’t help punctuating his sentences with flashes of his gleaming smile- even when talking about deadly fires.

Why doesn’t the military help , Jesus,,,,when does our government really help except to collect taxes and tell us no to the things we want to do with our own property …. California has the weather , but the democrats are ruining it,,,,
The U.S.O. just left a message on my cell phone, that they need donations since Army fire fighters have been sent to Southern California.
Because Biden has dementia and yet California voted for him.
People's lives are most important. But imagine all the wealth that has been lost in these homes --- art, paintings, sculptures, recordings, archives, gold, cash, comics collections, historic artifacts, important papers, etc. Some things can be replaced, but many cannot.
I've heard there have been looters scavenging about the burned-out homes and wondered what they might be looking for amongst all the ash. I guess melted metals might be a start?

This is a humbling experience for California. No amount of money or celebrity power can protect you from natures very awesome power. It reminds us how small we are really.
The mayor looks like her hair has been on fire.
I wonder how many unvaxed fire fighters got fired and had to find a job doing something else like install meaningless Chinese solar panels?
Mayor Bass's silence is what someone who knows nothing about anything gets some power. Now she's on the spot and can't say anything because she's incompetent.
👍😥
They should do an experiment and have an all female fire house and do a documentary on it so we all can see how much of a disaster it would be.
There are physical standards for firefighters for a reason. If you cannot carry an unconscious body out of a burning building, you should never ever have the job. L A women firefighters had a video that people want someone who looks like them to help them. I call BS on that. I want a big strong male firefighter who can actually do the heavy work that real firefighters face. Enough of DEI. Always the best person for the job!
Watch any police bodycam video with female officers and they ALWAYS make the situation worse. Terrible trigger discipline, giving confusing instructions, too weak to restrain criminals, putting other officers in the line of fire. You name it and a female officer has done it, endangering herself, other officers, and the public.
The URL response had me laughing hysterically. 😂
Must obviously have been put forward by a DEI person.
Next she'll say, Call a phone.
