I am Canadian. Refs got nothing to do with how we played OUR game. We are just no longer good at playing CANADIAN Hockey. Effing slow, cute, showboating and living in our memories. Jordan Eberle was half the size and gave 200% more heart, Crosby was 200% more skilled and his eyes had fire when he was chasing the puck. Gordie Howe would be ashamed to call this team Canadian.

As a Canadian and also one who played hockey for 20 years I have to say that I'm not a fan of the booing either. We as a nation are ground zero for hockey, we should be setting a better example than this. I'm also no fan of the loud whistle-booing the Euro fans do at these games when played over there. All of it shows a lack of respect for the game and for the players.

Penalties, penalties and more penalties were their total downfall in this tournament. And the coaching staff not hammering these kids to put a stop to the unnecessary penalties early on is their fault too.

This is the first thread that starts to recap correctly. The only thing that I would add is that the refs had an impact on the final of this game beyond the normal, There is enough blame to go around on this loss. Certainly the players , the coach, the program and also the refereeing.
The moment I heard the first boo for Sikora, I didn't wish it on the Canadians. I'm not someone who would wish anything bad on anyone, but when I see a player go to the locker room after a foul and then come back and be able to play, I'm glad that our player didn't hurt him. A little empathy wouldn't hurt the Canadians. This is disgusting and I'm glad that the Czech Republic could celebrate in the end, even if it was nerves. Anyway, the referees sometimes blew the wrong whistles for both sides, plus we didn't give a goal in the 5-minute power play, on the contrary, we got one, so the referees definitely didn't decide this. The Czechs were better for 2 periods, they tried to defend in the third and those were the nerves. Great match!
I don't remember ever having a Jr team this poor. After the Latvia game everyone knew they wouldn't make the medal round. Who ever built this team from hockey canada should be replaced. Nobody can score on that team.

I wasn't happy with the reffing but it's our lack of discipline that was one of the main causes of Canada's early exit. I wish the Czechs luck against the US.
Not taking anything away from Czechia they played an incredible game. That being said I think some of these officials were god awful. So many missed calls against czechia and the 5 minute major should've been 2 minutes max. Canada did their best to push at the end but it wasn't enough. Congrats to Czechia and go for gold.

I was in the 200's behind Canada's net for the drop of the puck, less than a minute in they score a weak goal on a goalie who's had two shutouts the entire tournament, I knew we were doomed. This team didn't want to win. Reffing had nothing to do with the loss, a discliplined team doesn't lose like this- it's on Team Canada and the management, I don't even blame the players.

That was so so stupid. Canada had all the momentum at that point. He effectively gave Cz a 3 minute timeout and a power play. The Canadian coach is terrible. Also brought a team with no discipline.

I do really like how some of the young canadians play even tho i am rooting for us (Czechia) it is just nice to watch them play. BUT to go knee on knee in unnecessesary situation especially right before the end when the game is tied is just a stupid play.... you can diasagree with some of the refs decisions thats a classic and we do that too but the last kneeplay was totally non-sense. Without that it could end up the other way.. You know how it goes..play stupid games....

I just wanna call out Czech player #17 Sikora. He puts himself in a super vulnerable spot initiating knee on knee contact, and after the impact, checks to see if there is a penalty, and upon seeing that there is, does his best soccer player impersonation. He's so wounded and then is miraculously good enough to play on the powerplay that ensued. Then later in the game gets called for a dive. it was (at least) his second dive of the game. they say its the game within the game. but it's just poor sportsmanship. get that sort of stuff out of hockey. I'll go cry some more and or louder now

@ I don’t disagree that Canada played poorly, they should have breezed past most of these teams, what’s frustrating is the inconsistency in calls, is Gibson had moved his knee to make contact I’d understand, but he stayed consistent through the hit, the opponent moved and that’s what caused it, just stupid call when the game is that close.

Referees were not the issue here. There are so many things that have gone wrong for Canada since the start of this tournament.
The 5 Minute Major was a shit call. But, Canada was very weak this year.

I just wanna call out Czech player #17 Sikora. He puts himself in a super vulnerable spot initiating knee on knee contact, and after the impact, checks to see if there is a penalty, and upon seeing that there is, does his best soccer player impersonation. He's so wounded and then is miraculously good enough to play on the powerplay that ensued. Then later in the game gets called for a dive. it was (at least) his second dive of the game.
they say its the game within the game. but it's just poor sportsmanship. get that sort of stuff out of hockey.

I am a ref. To be fair, I am reasonably new at it. But someone was paying off those refs tonight. That level of incompetence is almost impossible unless you’re being paid to look the other way
they got a reputation amongst the officials and when that happens the whistles start blowing more easily. Its not fair always, but it does happen.

The (would be) tying goal that was challenged by Canada clearly should have been allowed both tying the game and negating Canada’s minor penalty allowing them to keep the momentum they had built up to that point. Not to mention the other atrocious penalty calls and non-calls. Horrible officiating

@ I don’t disagree that Canada played poorly, they should have breezed past most of these teams, what’s frustrating is the inconsistency in calls, is Gibson had moved his knee to make contact I’d understand, but he stayed consistent through the hit, the opponent moved and that’s what caused it, just stupid call when the game is that close.
