This is fantastic. I did a history dissertation as part of my studies in architecture in 1975 on the use of dry stone in the UK, and Jarlshof (as well as Skara Brae) figured prominently. Your computer film would have explained things so much better than I managed qat the time. Thank you for your efforts.
Visited the site yesterday and can tell you that it is the best day out ever. Just let yourself immerse and let your imagination run free. Phew, what a place and what a production, majic all round. Thanks to the gentleman looking after everything and sharing his knowledge.
It truly is a fascinating place, isn't it? 12 years have passed since visiting the ruins and it continues to hold me captive. This video recreation of how the buildings may have looked fully constructed is a treat to watch.
I'm sure this took a lot of work putting together! What an interesting look at one plot of land inhabited over a few thousand years. I wish I could see what these people looked like and what they did for fun when they had time. I've never seen stones hanging from rope on the roof before. Was that speculation or from confirmed sitings?
One of my favorite videos, come back to it again and again. A beautiful history without a word spoken.

A brilliant, awe-inspiring piece of work, wonderfully realised and produced to the highest artistic standards.

Stunning work.
This is so awesome!!! Thank you for sharing!!
Amazing, thank you. Saved to watch again and share!
Extraordinary - thank you for this glimpse of the settlements and changing architecture at one site. Hope one day I can visit.
Amazing. Have to visit next time I'm up there.
Love the fact you can see what's left today and then the CGI of how it looked. 2300bc was that ?
Amazing. I'd like to camp out there on the winters solstice. Commune with ancient spirits.
Camping isn't permitted on these archaeological sites but there are places to stay just up the road from Jarlshof if you should visit in the future.
Great work :-)
I wish they'd make some sort of VR or game where you can walk around reconstructed ruins
Have a wee look at our apps, as there are some there using AR and/or 3D digital models: www.historicenvironment.scot/visit-a-place/download-our-apps/

Because the walls have earth and grass on top I always imagined these dwellings as earth houses!
that was really wonderful, can we share the link of the video in our project?
The Vikings went all over the world, didn't they? Having an ahah moment seeing the similar architecture in other places verrrrry far away.
Yes they did :-)
