Congrats to Emily. Nice form on all her shots and great angle control. Once Taylor and Sofia develop better putting strokes they will be making consistent pushes at Elite events.
@2:45 Exactly what JK said about the airbounce. Thermal pockets can do that too but Tay definitely has it like MattyO. Try it with a lid/Glitch and pancake it at the ground with a lot of spin. Hard to do with a drive swing and isn't necessarily a good thing as it scrubs speed but can be useful if you need to get under something.
Taylor reminds me of Page Pierce years ago. When she was asked whether she meters her power shot by shot, she replied that it was easier for her to throw flat out and let the disc choice determine the distance and flight profile. Lately, she seems to have been using her considerable touch to great effect. Hailey King was the same way when she first came on the scene, just throwing bombers everywhere. But, as JK observed, it's harder to hit your line when you're going flat out. Now Hailey is winning since she is using more finesse in the right situations. I love the down under tour. I hope it becomes a regular feature.
Great tourney, and coverage. Fun contrasting styles between the 2 big arms and the 2 control players. Great round Sofia, hope to run into you on the course in Victoria someday.
My cue when throwing an airbounce is pushing my thumb down on the back of the disc. It engages the wrist with a downward swing. Definitely decreases consistency with drives but allows for upshots to be chain high and still settle close to the basket.
Way to go Emily! if you could bottle up that consistency and sell it you would be a millionaire. Hats off to Sofia for that amazing last round. and way to go Juliana for slicing 16's fairway, that was an epic drive.
Taylor is such a physically gifted woman. Spectacular arm talent. If she can stay patient and soak in the experience, she'll be a force at the top of the sport.
The easiest way to explain an air bounce is, it’s exactly what it sounds like. When you throw the disc down while it is flat, the air contained within the flight plate gets compressed by the downward pressure. After the disc is released, that pressure rushes to equalize. The only way it can go is down. Equal opposite force on the disc, resulting in it rising.
While I don't disagree, you can say that about a lot of things. If Taylor didn't have a bad last round, she could have won. If you missed that tree, that could have been an ace. Etc etc.
Air bounce if you to press down with your thumb as you release. This gives it a right rolling moment for RHBH, which brings the nose up due to gyroscopic stuff. Similar to the ground pushing up on the opposite rim when a disc skips.
Air bounce is just what she said, throwing with nose up. Like 10° or more on a tech disc. Air bounce is egregious nose up. The throwing down part is because it wasn’t an accident, it’s part of their form, and they’re compensating for it
Simon has great air-bounce throws. Like JK said, nose up throwing downward. Valerie does that on her drives, too. Matty O also. Nose up on a downward trajectory from the hand..
We used to air bounce our Frisbees like crazy fools decades ago. This was long before I ever heard of disc golf, but we did it just 'cuz it looked cool. I think Taylor does it out of raw speed and power as in her elite athleticism overwhelms the disc. I think as she polishes her mechanics, you'll see it less since I doubt it has any practical benefit on a tee shot. It's not a bad skill to have when scrambling in the woods.
Wow, that was hard to watch! From first to third...that's a lesson that power usually doesn't beat skill. Definitely think Sofia was the best player, her putts keep her from winning.
Wow that was painful to watch Taylor play so badly and seemingly just not make great decisions on the final round. I really enjoy watching her play and sure this will be a huge learning experience.
Air bounce = bad throw. Killing your distance by throwing down with the nose up. Not what you want. Ideally you want flat or slightly nose down. Matty-O is the only one I see that can get big distance and accurate with an air bounce throw.
Throwing air bounces (downward throw with nose up) is something that Taylor should try to limit, as controlling angles is harder by throwing that way. She should work on throwing flat on golf lines, like Emily does.
She was throwing too high on a lot of shots in the last tournament. I only noticed her starting to air bounce this tournament when she started trying to compensate by throwing a lower line. Definitely needs to work on throwing flat/low without getting the nose up.
I do wonder if she was actually checking scores or not. I followed the card live and because Sofia started 10 shots off the lead and missed putts early and had that messy double on 10 I thought she was still well behind Emily (who was playing pretty steadily and had no really bad holes).
Really enjoyed the tournament. Thanks for great coverage.
What a great opening tour for the season. Amazing job ladies!!
That was almost an insane comeback by Sofia. Missed a couple putts from inside 15, but what a heater!
Great coverage!
Congrats to Emily. Nice form on all her shots and great angle control. Once Taylor and Sofia develop better putting strokes they will be making consistent pushes at Elite events.
Emily Weatherman is the future of disc golf, so controlled and consistent.

I hope Hailey can get her putt and overall consistency back. She was all over the place last year
Great job Emily. This was so easy to watch. Great shots, great players, great scenery, great commentary. Awesome

Great Coverage!!!!
Ended up being a heck of a round. Closer in a different way than expected after the first two rounds.
Congrats to Emily.
Great round Sofia!

Exactly as the fabulous J.K. says. Easier with a lid because of the depth of the rim. Thanks for the coverage, loving it in the U.K. :)

Ok. Ready for the next one!

Challenging course and a well played event. Well done.
Great job Emily!
Congrats Emily!

6:50 highlight reel 🔥💪
Really enjoy Perkins and Jk in the booth, a couple of my favorite commentators
Nose up with downward release, perfect airbounce every time. Been approaching like this for years.
So fun being able to toss a Glitch within a few inches of the ground and have it rise back up to your buddy's shoulder height.
If Sofia didn't have such a rough first round I think she'd take this one. Great performance from Emily!
While I don't disagree, you can say that about a lot of things. If Taylor didn't have a bad last round, she could have won. If you missed that tree, that could have been an ace. Etc etc.
If she could putt even slightly better she’d have walked away with it
Yeah. Completely meaningless statement. If only they’d played better, they would have won!
Air bounce if you to press down with your thumb as you release. This gives it a right rolling moment for RHBH, which brings the nose up due to gyroscopic stuff. Similar to the ground pushing up on the opposite rim when a disc skips.
Airbounce. Not that I can do it well but nose up, downward launch angle, emphasize spin. Usually with a putter. Lighter is helpful.
For air bounce, just push down with your thumb while throwing -- so much so you think you're going to throw it into the ground.
Air bounce is just what she said, throwing with nose up. Like 10° or more on a tech disc. Air bounce is egregious nose up.

TIL I play penultimate frisbee 😜

Re airbounce, JK has it right: downward arm motion with a nose-up release. Simon does it better than anyone.
Any particular reason Nate keeps saying Topau when its spelled Taupo?
Wow, that was hard to watch! From first to third...that's a lesson that power usually doesn't beat skill. Definitely think Sofia was the best player, her putts keep her from winning.
Air bounce exactly the way JK described.
Oh so now Nate wants to bring up my air bounce… 😂
Never seen anyone with worse touch than Taylor. That layup on 11 was diabolical
Wow that was painful to watch Taylor play so badly and seemingly just not make great decisions on the final round. I really enjoy watching her play and sure this will be a huge learning experience.

Useful on command but not an ideal default.
@@andyd8370For sure, but not something you should throw on nearly every shot.

@@Quixote56 She was air bouncing a lot at the last tournament too, although I can't remember if it was as noticable.
Nate - Air bounce it's cause by thermo air pockets and wind speeds.
Multiple 50+ second commercial breaks PLUS in-video ads. Got damn! Good vid otherwise.
Double brutal
Laying up on 15 when your 4 behind the leader and 3 ahead of 3rd is absurd. 🤦♂️🤦♂️ I bet she’s kicking herself since she lost by 1.
