      @@samanehtasham That's hard to say because we don't know your bird. We can't see how they behave towards you. Either birdy flys for freedom, because of fear or the outside is just more entertaining than you. You could try to use a play stand, making that the most interesting thing. At least you could reach your bird and try to train them then.

      @@samanehtasham A way to get your bird out just have your parakeet perch on your finger and hold the millet and slowly take it out, but if your parakeet ever comes out the cage give it millet so it knows "Oh! I get rewarded when i come out" so it comes out often, thats how my parakeets soon liked coming out the cage, hope this helped 💗

    Blueberry is such a cutie and reminds me of my active boy, Homie. I recently got my first birds (budgies named Homie and Mama) from a "free to good home" post. We've upgraded their small cage to a flight cage with better toys and got them switched over to a mostly fresh chop diet. They're (VERY) slowly getting used to my hands in the cage and they're learning what bathing is. I'm using tons of ideas from your channels over the years but these Blueberry videos are extra helpful! 💙💙

    Am I the only one whose budgies LOVE oat groats??? They like it even more than millet for training. Millet tends to make them act like crackheads; they start fight for it then they get distracted. I’ve taught them how to do a paw shake, step up, kiss, do a 360 turn and hang upside down. It’s so cute when they both do it at the same time, like a circus show.
    Also watching the training was so relaxing, your bird is very quiet and patient. 💕

    I love the idea of you doing more of these. Especially if you have a super flighty bird who doesn’t want to engage as much. Maybe the conures? Yeah, it would be a lot of waiting, a lot more than in this video, but sometimes it’s difficult to recognise when to persevere with something and when to just accept that your bird isn’t interested. I remember you had one who was very interested in training and one who was the complete opposite, so it would be really fun to see a session with the least interested bird.

    • @benjaminlabarge4899
      @benjaminlabarge4899 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right about conures. With mine I have to put the toy on its bird tree within view of its cage for a day or so, then let it be alone on the cage with the option to go near the toy if it wants. Rinse and repeat a bit and then it might be ready for training with the toy...

    • @stephandpets
      @stephandpets 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benjaminlabarge4899 The reason I mentioned the conures specifically is that they never seem to stay still long in the bird tricks videos LOL :-). I know from experience that the busier your bird, the more difficult it can be to get them to focus on a session.

    What a nice little budgie! On the other hand, my four budgies are BRATS. They do whatever they want - and they know I'll always just feed them and cuddle them. They rule the room - but they pretty much stay on their cage (and my cockatiel's cage). They "know" the cage is "their space" - and they know any playpens are "their space"; other than that, they aren't fond of perching on non-avian places like the TV, the curtain rod, hanging framed pictures, etc.

    I think it's great that you are including a budgie in your mix of videos. I think that they are beautiful but also a great bird for children to have and get children to be familiar with birds and familiar with taking care of them. When I was a young child I got 2 budgies (I grew up in Europe, we called them Parakeets) and they were just as much fun as their bigger parrot counter parts. They love to be social with humans (in my case all humans in the house) and I taught them all kinds of tricks even though I did not know a thing about working with birds. They freely flew all over the house, we didn't even close the door to their cage. The would go to their cage on their own to sleep, eat or drink water. If we lost track of where they were, or needed them to go in the cage because we were leaving the house, we would simply make a rattling noise by striking their cage with our finger nails and they would get mad as hell and furiously fly back to their cage to ""defend their home"". This would take less than 5 seconds.
    My aunt, here in the US, had a blue budgie, just like Blueberry who she taught to talk and this bird would ride on the back of the family dog (a Poodle) as a means of transportation throughout the house.
    Fantastic birds to introduce to children, and they may turn into bird lovers for life because of their budgies.

    Omg! She’s adorable and SO SMART!! I’m so glad you did this video. I’m going to share it on my Facebook. I feel so bad that they little smarty-pants birds languish in a cage alone...nothing to do and no one to love. You’re really doing such a wonderful thing with Blueberry. I feel like most “parrot people” know that their parrots are smart and are going to require toys and attention. And they’re VERY expensive for most people. But I think that these little ones are bought more on a whim by people who are not necessarily bird people. Because they’re so pretty, and they’re $25.00. But they could have such a rewarding relationship with their little bird, just knowing the possibilities could help! I love it!!

It's like a positive spiral where you support each other to be the best you two can be, even when either of you have bad days. I mean, that is the whole point of getting together: the whole of you together being better than the sum of the separate parts.

    They, OR should I say my JOEY baby same look as Blueberry already had some great contact with previous owners, and I didnt know it at that time way back when I got him that the things I did was going with him was in fact TRAINING HIM TO DO THINGS I WANTED.
    And I dont know about others who have had Budgie Birds but in my case seemed so eager to learn.
    Joey loved his Millet, and his Cuddle Bones.
    I HAVE to do some research on Budgies like I said to find out more on their diets and years lived etc, BECAUSE If what i see and read about them i think i have finally found a little friend for life. No more living so alone, and someone i can chat to instead of myself.

      Budgies aren't nearly as long lived as the bigger birds but can live quite some time. My oldest bird was 13 when he passed. He might have lived longer if I'd known more about proper diet but he was allowed to fly free and only be in a cage at night to sleep. He had a fake tree to hang out in with toys and millet and he always had a friend bird. One of the biggest problems we ran into with the budgies is even bird vets didn't really treat them because their small size made it very difficult and their health issues progressed rapidly.

      @@DarkestDeeds Heh Jayam. I just read your post and I wish to thank you so much for reading mine and taking your time to reply to my questions that I was not sure about.
      Now that you mentioned the whole small bird issue as far as finding a decent avian vet that can and will try if your in desperate need to help your most loved bird is something to look into before I would venture onto this.
      I wounder what Jamie does in this situation or if she does most of blues medical care.
      Its something I might ask.
      Anyways it was nice of you to take the time and offer your advice as a Budgie owner.😉

    I’m currently in the process of training my Budgie. She steps up almost every time. Her name is Skye and she is very pretty. I’ve only had her for 3.5 days and she chirps now and then. Eats in front of me. Steps up almost every time. And eats millet from me. The video was really helpful. I’m going to try this technique when she starts chirping regularly and starts being more active in her cage. Right now she mainly just sits on one perch for an extended period of time, then moves to the next, but the first day she just sat at the bottom of her cage, so she is making progress. I think she is going through her baby molt soon, cause she has a few pin feathers, she preens a lot, and she drops a good amount of feathers. She will hopefully be able to fly after she molts, because the pet store I got her from trimmed her wings 😢

      the first few days-week for both my budgies (i got them at separate times) they werent very active and kind of just sat on their perch or food bowl, but after a week or two they started getting a lot more active so it just takes some time for them to adjust to their new living situation! sounds like youre doing great though :)

      Ellen G yup! She’s doing awesome! She chirps whenever I’m quiet. It’s really funny. It’s not like a sad chirp either, it’s like calling for me, because she used to me moving around a bit. I’m really proud of her for doing this well already. Thank you!

    Is there any pet that's a better value, ounce for ounce, than the common budgie? I got one for my 13th birthday, and he was a very fun and loving little companion, way beyond my wildest imagination. I still miss him, 45 years later.

    Your journey with blueberry is inspiring me to have another budgie.
    Not sure I could live with other birds in the house, as I had an allergic reaction to a cockatiel and made me need to use my in haler multiple times (asthmatic) but I've always been fine with budgies but we did have a couple growing up as a child. I had an amazing budgie named Marco he lives with my mum now as I emmegrated. But it would be lovely to have another. And I think following the Birdtricks program would be a brilliant aid to help me develop a good relationship.

    I really enjoyed this video, as it showed the reality of how training goes, not just edited video that gives some people unrealistic expectations. You alway do a great job of explaining and showing what you are talking about. By the way... I couldn't help but notice what I think was the washing machine in the background, finishing its cycle. LOL!! Oh, and Blueberry is adorable!!!

    I am new to your channel and don't have a bird...yet. Doing lots of research to see if its a fit. I have 2 rabbits, 6 guinea pigs, and 3 small dogs (all older). Don't worry I won't do it unless I know it will be ok. I am retired and can spend lots of time. Also, considering a parakeet so hopefully doesn't outlive me. Your videos are so informative and you are so cute.
