- how to make surface to solid in solidworks
In this video you will learn how to make a surface in to a solid in solidworks
There are several ways you can convert a surface body into a solid body in solidworks.
We briefly explain what a surface is and why you might want to convert to a solid. We then take a look at the knit surface and thicken tools that will allow us to convert from surface to solid in solidworks.

Is there a way to then turn it into an editable solid where you can extrude cut, mate etc.?
yes convert to solid body then you can extrude cut
How would you then take this for example and make a negative of it for a two part mold? I have a fingerboard model I made and can't figure out how to take the profile of it and essentially attach it to a rectangle
Use the combine subtract tool. It’s a multi body part modelling technique but you would
Subtract the fingerboard model away from a another block of material
Hi I've had a problem with doing something like this. I created a car chassis design (well half of it, I'm going to mirror it once it's completely done) which I have made into one surface but the thicken ability won't work. I used check to see why, and it says that there's an open surface which I can't see no matter how much I zoom in. What should I do? is there another way to "thicken" my chassis?
I believe another way is to make a offset of the original and use something (still don't know what) to connect the two and then knit them together with the make solid option to I believe basically do the same thing. Am I on the right trail?
Thanks!
Hi you need to patch the surface to make a closed volume. Try the surface knit - if its a small gap it can autopatch
Jumping crusty crustaceans that video helped me out
"The feature could not be created because it would produce self-intersecting geometry." Help bro.. Im on work, i need it fast haha Thankss 😅
