The part that Bassem Youssef isn't telling is that when Morsi heard of his arrest at 2 AM he released him right away . The truth is the media in Egypt was attacking Morsi day and night and he never arrested any of them , something that was never seen before in Egypt as only thinking of insulting Mubarak before would send you behind the sun . But because Morsi wanted the media to have freedom for the first time in Egypt , the media abused it to the point where they painted themselves as fake heroes of the revolution against Mubarak . The same media that was kissing his ass before he was ousted , and the very same one that Bassem belonged to ! Hypocrisy ...

I think it needs context to understand. When you are from a dictatorship or semi-dictatorship, the state controls everything so people in those countries can't differentiate between private citizens doing something or an individual doing something. Jon Stewart doesn't represent Jon Stewart or even Comedy Central in those countries, he represents America AND its government to them.

As an Egyptian girl... Bassem was one of the best thing that happened to this country after the 2011 revolution!!!
I miss him and I miss those days when we were able to say what we want finally
well, my generation still do that but on the "internet" only :(
but I teared up when I saw this because I remembered the Egyptian Revolution and the people who died for this country to get better and how all of that went for nothing now
another asshole ruling the country and making it worse
I wish everything get better for all of us around the whole world ^^
p.s Moursi wasn't better than El Sisi... both are assholes but one was acting like the moderate muslim that will make this country better and now we have one who acts like the great army man who will make this country stable again
both are dictators but in different versions!

Brave dude, cause that took some balls I'm sure. Also, he brought up a good point that I hadn't noticed. He is the 3rd guest of middle eastern descent to be on the show in a very short time span, and that makes me appreciate the underlying thought process of the show a bit more, because in the current social and political climate, I don't think that is an accident or coincidence.

Bassem Youssef and his influence is the best thing that ever happened to media in the arab world, thanks to the school of John stewart of course.
Bassem was the "only" educated, cultured, smart, bold, independent, honest, and eloquent person in our arab media, with no hidden agenda.
His goal was merely "a better life for the arab world" by exposing corruption, hypocrisy, manipulation... etc.
He had introduced and supported many talents along his active years.
His students and team is now following his steps in "Saturday night live in arabic" and the muppet "Abla Fahita" but in a more subtle way of course..
Bassem Yousef, I can't thank you enough for giving us hope that someday we might reach that level of open mindedness, tolerance, and freedom of speech, and for making us pee our pants some times.

I don't really see how you can say in the arab media maybe in the egyptian media what about the albasheer show an iraqi satire show that makes fun of everyone that has a thing to do with politics because all of them were criminals, idiots and hypocrites and the show opened a lot of peoples minds about corruption and how religion shouldn't be associated with the government or with anyone that has anything to do with politics. There's also a syrian satire show. I'm pretty sure that there is also a lebanese one and etc.

@عبدالرحمن حجاج The book is about Bassem's experience. His narrative is authentic and piercing. He does not hold back on the shortcomings of our society and is not afraid to air our dirty laundry. In the end, the main insight is that this is what happens when democracy is eroded and it can happen anywhere....even in the places we thought were safe . So, in short, while he tells his own specific story, he also tells Egypt's story and the story of what is happening in various parts of the world.
