Quick teardown of a Toshiba Z40-B Tecra Ultrabook. Check out how to open this unit and swap out the hard drive, memory and battery. Warning proceed at your own risk.
Does anyone know what size the screws are? I purchased several of these from a warehouse that removes the RAM and SSD's before selling them. Unfortunately they don't keep up with the screws so they're all missing from the bottom cover.
I once did a FHD upgrade of this laptop, you need to buy a FHD LCD cable of a different toshiba z40 model. The part number is P000644030. You can buy it from emprgroup.com.au
Hello, I have a Toshiba Tecra Z40-A-17R Intel Core i7 4600U computer. I couldn't update the bios. Windows 11 is installed. How can I update the bios? can you help? I downloaded my bios version 3.30 and other updates but without success.
Yours is probably one of the newer ones. I purchased several of these from a warehouse. Most are 5th gen Intel i5 and have the smaller SSD/HDD cable. A couple of them are 6th gen i5 and have a wider cable and came with a caddy that holds an NVMe SSD.
I've taken a few of these apart and have not seen a CMOS battery like most laptops have. Not sure why they don't have one unless it's somehow built into the main battery.
Hi, is it possible to add the ssd cable code or part number somewhere in the description? Anyone with a Z40 with M.2 SSD needs that cable to install a larger 2.5" drive and it seems impossible to find it online. Thanks!
Need to upgrade memory in unit. Currently only have 1 8GB memory card. The one i have says something different then what you mentioned. Mine says PC3L 8 GB 12800s. Should i just get to 8gb that match what you said to get me to 16? I just dont want to get the wrong memory. Thanks
I think what Yavuz means is that his ssd is a M.2 SSD so the cable on the hdd end is not the same as in your case where it connects to a normal 2.5" SATA. Some Z40 models came with M.2 SSD instead of 2.5" so to install a larger 2.5" hdd in those we need exactly the cable that is in your model, I am actually trying to find one right now without success, but this video shows it actually exists somewhere...
hello, I have tecra z40-a-17k and I saw a slot(red circle in image) that is free and looks like other ssd slot. Do you know what does it do? and if i put my ssd there, can it work or damage pc and ssd? imgur.com/3DSZegB
Informative video - thanks!
How do you remove the keyboard for replacement?

Just a note on replacing the Hard Drive. Make sure it is a slim 2.5 (7mm) anything bigger, and you won't get the cover back on. ;)
Try FHD upgrade buy the FHD cable part number P000644030
Thanks. Would have never found that screw in the center of the unit

@@2DarkHorizon only need to change the cable only? How about the panel itself?
@@stanlaus3883 You need to buy the a FHD screen and FHD cable. Yes you need to change both if you don't have a FHD screen in the first place.
@@stanlaus3883 You need to buy a compatible FHD screen as well
Try adding LCD Cable part number P000644030 it would let you upgrade the laptop to FHD.

It is always best to get matching RAM or at least as close to it as you can.
hi, i want to chance my ssd to hdd and i need a sata cable how can i find this cable could you please hel me tank you
You should be able to use the same cable / connector that is used for the hdd.
but i have ssd one it is not for hdd
If it is a 2.5" SSD then it is the same connector.

I'd suggest contacting Toshiba directly.
Thanks
