Your narration is like listening to jazz. The constantly changing tempo makes me fall in love with the story. Well done you are incredible. It’s like syncopated rhythm in story telling.
You do a fantastic job with your videos. They are always original with just the right amount of scene time changes, music, dialogue and facial expressions. I always look forward to your videos and highly anticipate the drop of your TA adventure in whatever format you decided to edit and distribute it. I’m sure we will be mesmerized and entertained. Happy trails.
You never fails to upload the videos we need most right when we need them. Thank you so much for sharing this video but also all others. The way you edit your video amaze me and inspire me. Thank you again!
A video on my favourite topic: food! Thanks so much for sharing your tips. These videos are always a pleasure to watch - expertly edited, informative and hilarious. :)
Loved this! Love to see you being sponsored by all these brands too 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 cannot wait for your thru hike videos to come out! Much love from New York City!
I love the bangs !! More recipes and dining options please !! Brothers make the perfect test subjects since you can use them multiple times before you have to “do away” with them. I would love to see you and your Mum in a competitive cook off using the brothers as test subjects with lots of Japanese language sarcasm. Thank you for these little, staccato humoured vignettes. More Peanut Butter !! And a bit of Irish double cream once in a while be good for what ails you !!🦋
Really sweet to see you with your brothers. I’ll have to try this recipe. It’s going to take a minute to track down all the ingredients, but it looks yummy.
Love the recipe and ideas, thanks! One thing I struggle with about cold soaking (even though keen on the idea) is the cleanup/sterilising of the plastic container. I'm not a big fan of plastic to start with but would think you would need to carry detergent and extra water to clean as a minimum? I struggle to get plastic clean with cold water. With a stove there is boiling and hot water involved that I would think would remove residual grease and sterilise better. Most of the time I opt for freeze dried meals (just add water) so I don't have to mess with cleaning bowls/containers at all. But do like the idea of making up healthy meals on the go.
I also take a similar approach to my plant based diet! I call myself “always vegetarian, almost always vegan.” Haven’t seen this discussed on yt before; thanks for sharing!
Been pretty strict vegan for 5 years now and if theres anything I learned its that "gatekeeping" in the vegan community is unfortunately very widespread. Im so happy to see this vid and see how much you clearly care about the animals and the planet (and backpacking ;). Sometimes labels help us to find ourselves and our people, but often they end up closing off connections too. Everything we do in this life impacts another, making steps forward with love as your centerpoint means youre always doing the right thing :)
.... Don't sell yourself short, Elina ... your videos' are awesome !! The content ,,the soundtrack along with the chosen few are so gripping ,, love your style ..
OH! I'll have to try this out! The hot one, anyway! ... I'll probably have to go to the Asian stores nearby to find some of those ingredients, but it looks fun to make and eat!
Hello, how did you find the peanut butter in the Kai Carrier? - if you are a fan of crunchy do the bits get stuck in the tube? Thanks, another peanut butter fanatic
Potentially, if it was a bit warmer and I was more time-constrained. On Te Araroa I took the pace a bit more chill so had plenty of time and energy to cook.
Bless ya, Mark. Ingredients: Dehy Rice, Dehy Peas, Textured Veggie Protein, Shiitake, Wakame, Shiitake Stock, sesame oil, furikake, nori, spring onion. I didn't really measure, you'll have a fair idea when you make it and see the foods absorbing the water. I think a LOT of the ingredients are interchangeable, but if you want to get the same flavours: the wakame, shiitake, shiitake stock and sesame oil are paramount.
I went on many hikes in my live, but I never had to pack more than one main dish and snacks- there aren't that many outbacks in the alpine region anymore ;). Beeing 115kg/2.00m I feel like the water and food supply issue is going to be a tricky one, should I ever try a through hike.
Love this content! As someone who’s constantly trying to eat more vego/vegan options, I totally would love more recipes (hiking or non-hiking) ideas! Coming from the states we had a toooon of options but in New Zealand I’m still finding my way 😅 haha
Heat probably releases more flavor and nutrients. The “heated by the sun” comment on the cold soak is right on. Also that SeaToSummit spoon is the spoon to rule all other spoons. Expensive but worth it.
I really loved this video! but my one question would be: are you concerned at all about bpa chemicals from the telanti plastic? I wonder why not opt for something stainless steel?
Looks so delicious. I was just a bit disappointed about all those sachets and single use plastics? I know it’s kinda tricky to use containers etc on hikes, especially thru hiking. But do you think there could be similar recipes with less waste ? Cheers
@@elliotjohnston1 The smoke from the Dixie fire had reached us towards the end of our trip, I'd keep an eye on the wind/weather systems, but good luck and safe travels ;)
Honestly...I'm a little disappointed that this video wasn't like...20 seconds long. Just pop up...your face..."peanut butter. I eat peanut butter." And then that's the end of the video :p
Looks delicious :) I was wondering if you could technically boil water on the wood stoves that are provided in the huts on the south island on the TA? I would be using a Vargo-Bot mainly for coldsoaking, but a hot meal now and then would be awesome :)
Hi Elina! Thanks for sharing this. I am plant based as well and it's good to see so many options 😊 The Japanese food looks so yummy 🤤🍙🍜🍡🍱🎌 Also, I was born into the Unification Church as well (in '84) in Colorado. I love Colorado 💚 Born and raised here. I'm moving out to the mountains next week 😅🌄🏞️

well, that's a much more succinct way of putting it than I ever have! I guess because we don't have a tidy box for it eh?
I've also heard this approach called "vagan", or "vaguely vegan"

Love your Japanese curry recipe from one of your previous video!
I can not wait for The Te Arora episodes! Bring them up plecase!
How adorable was the siblings rating. 😊 Also, love to see how your editing has progressed! 👏
Would u cold soak again??
I never tried...too cold in the mountains without hot grub ...nice vids yr awesome 😯

Sweet video. Any chance of the recipe in the description box? My mind can not process following it at warp speed in the video.

Personally I thought the wooden spoons Elina and her brothers were using were way better.

100% agree - it's the unfortunate thing with a lot of Japanese ingredients. Low waste is the venture I'm now on, will keep you posted :)
I don't know why but this was hilarious to me, I loved it
I love your warped Talenti Jar, someone's accepted some hot water along the way 😉
Accepting hot water as a cold soaker?... Never 😂. Also need to import Talenti here eh
you eat better on a thru hike than i do living with a fridge and a stove...
honestly, I looked at some of these and thought the same about my own life back off trail...
Unrelated to food but how do you like your macpac polertec alpha hoodie 👍
Elina! I just tried the graze peanut butter dunx. You need to get on this buzz. Hahaha
okay what the heck, just googled this. WHERE DO I FIND THESE.
You want to get silicon lids, very slim and light, easy packed.
Can you publish the rice recipe?
Good to meet a fellow 90% plant based-er. Lol. Definitely going to try this recipe next time I’m backpacking
Elina I just came back from a NOLS course in the Wind River Range of WY, and to see your posting vids after 30 days of no tech is so FREAKING AMAZING
This warms my soul ❤️

So the verdict is to definitely take a stove on trail 😂
Yes, I think yes.
Tic Tac should be change to "Peanut Butter Queen"
I see your Talenti jar must have got wrinkles from something hot? It happened to mine with hot coffee.☕
ok I would've killed to eat this up in the cascades, seriously. BUT YOU WERE IN AVALON HIGH? WHAT
