Actually superstition stems from scientific reasons that were prevelant in the era for example,
    1. Don't sweep after dark, it's because in the old days there was no electricity, so you could sweep something expensive by mistake.
    2. Don't walk under ladders, because someone might be standing on it , you going understand it might get you drenched with paint or.might disbalance the person on the ladder.
    3. Don't cross roads from where four roads are meeting, traffic might come from all directions , might be dangerous for you .
    Ect and so on

@jaby koay, Hi, I am on a marathon of your videos from 2 days and liking what I see...
Here in India, we have quite a few superstitions... And I think, most of them have a very simple reason. Few examples being,
    1. Broken mirror brings bad luck - Mirrors are probably the oldest article of glass humans are using and the type of glass used to make them always breaks in to sharp pieces and can cause serious injuries... So to ensure we dont break them or get rid of them immediatley.
    2. Spilling salt - As you said, it was quite precious back then and also its hard to clean up and if we are wearing footwear, we may slip and fall.
    3. Opening umbrella inside - Umbrella opens suddenly and spreads quite widely... So if opened inside home it will most probably knock over things.
    4. Cutting nails inside - Cut nails have sharp edges and can hurt us if stepped on them... And can hurt us even more if it were to get mixed with food items and we were swallow it by mistake. And so on...

  • @meghanasp6222

I think the term evil eye or nazar came basically from the energy or triggers people had. I've been around people who straight up give me anxiety and as mental health was side eyed, people said nazar and then the myth grew into physical accidents/ illnesses too. Physical events also have PTSD, just saying. My personal view and I wanted to put it out there.

We had a Asoka tree in our house and my grandmother had this belief that if the tree grows above the house we are going to get doomed..she even quoted the story of rich family from our villlage who went bankrupt because the Asoka tree in their house grew over their house and put them under its shade which is a bad omen..to be frank i loved the fragrance of the red flowers on the tree and the tree itself gave good shade in summer..sadly the superstition was so deep rooted that our grandapa decided to cut it down as soon as it reached the roof height. We got saved from the evil grasp of the tree that day..so they believed. I don't know if the evil association has anything to do with the fact that Sita was kidnapped and hidden from her beloved husband Rama in Asoka vanam by asura king Ravana. She must have cursed the trees to bring bad luck to those who grow them in their garden.

Interesting about red colour ink and pens. In India it is used to inform about passing away of a loved one. I was very young and writing with a red pen when my father made me not to write with it he just said it brings you bad luck. A few years later on returning from a vacation we received a letter informing us about passing away of my aunt(this was a pre internet era and we didn't even had a landline phone) I later asked my parents about red ink and they told me about how it is used to inform about death of someone. I use fountain pens and love red inks but, till day I do not use it to write anyone's name bar mine.

In our area they remove nazer with lemons and throw it on roads so that someone steps on it by mistake and your badluck leaves you for that person.Sounds unfair.

When you are sick not gravely but some small ailment in any part of your body... And when you greatly worried about that thing.. Then this trick works for you to get feel good.. This only a way to make you feel good... Like you have minor ailments and worried so much as if you are going to die and you keep on going to Doctor to treat you.. When an honest doctor says nothing to worry and It's common you never believe him and go to the another Doctor.. Instead if he gives you a placebo and says you will be cured in just one-day.. And you get to know it the moment you take this tablet.. Surely you feel that it has been cured...

I have that OCD too. Even it all out, more so when i was a kid. But walking on cracks isn't one of them :) Jack Nicholson in "As good as it gets" reminded me of this recently and now your video. Looks like my OCDs coming back LOL

I have been through these, what all do you guys have?
    1. Cross your index and middle finger and then you can say any lie.
    2. Do not take a bath after eating.
    3. Do not eat Non-veg food / get a haircut / cut nails on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday. Some do it on Friday as well.
    4. Keeping a Thuja leaf in your book would ensure you get intelligent (rather, studious).
    5. If you sing in the night, all witches in the viscinity cling on to you.
    6. If you sleep with your feet towards south, you march to hell
    7. Lemons and green chilli ward off the evil eye. And if you see them lying together on the street, don't go near it, don't even jump over it, in fact ignore it.
    8. Point no. 7 works with a black devil face mask or a black doll as well. just tie them where you don't want an evil eye.
    9. Don't do anything thrice. Bad luck.
    10. If your head bumps with someone, bump one more time. (I don't know the reason but i think bad luck is involved)
    11. Don't cut nails inside the house.
    12. Wherever you enter, enter with your right foot for good luck
    13. If someone sneezes when he or someone else is going out, the guy going out would face bad luck however if its urgent for you to go, let that guy (whe sneezed) eat some sugar.
    14. Don't call from behind a person who is leaving for doing good work. Let him go.
    15. If a person is leaving, don't ask him where he is leaving for
    16. If men eat tangy food like mango candies, they turn gay.
Things that are ingrained in me and I can't get rid of them:
    1. If I touch a book with my foot by mistake, I would immediately touch it on my forehead.
    2. If I have my foot towards a picture of god, I'd immediately turn it away.
    3. Soon as I sneeze I immediately say "Sorry!"(This might just be good manners and not a superstition but I do it involuntary even when there is no one around)
