Everyone in the Minecraft community hates how much shields take up of the screen but I love them for early game. They are better then totems for me. They can block creeper blasts and arrows from skeletons. And when zombie reinforcements gang up on you it can be good for crowd control. 10/10 mechanic would recommend. Sadly according to Wattles, Mojang might be nerfing the shield soon. Don't forget you can put Mending and Unbreaking 3 books on the shield. If you want a tip to avoid fall damage: Row a boat down a steep drop. It will save your life most of the time. Though there is a chance you can die. Insert meme: So today I did some mining off camera, lol. Wow you found the best spawner in the game. Skeleton spawners are fantastic for bows, arrows, and bonemeal, and xp. You should definitely use that in the future!
if you hate caving so much (me too), you could try trading with villagers. weaponsmith armorsmith and toolsmith can get you full diamond armor and tools, farmers can get you tons of emeralds and xp with pumpkins and melons, and if you find just 2 diamonds for the enchanting table, you can get fully enchanted before you even fight your first mob XD
i so agree with this, in fact usually the only gear i craft out of diamonds is a pick, the rest of my diamond gear is from villagers (repeatedly converted at that)
i hate hate haaatee caving too (that's why I always play in pacific) but strip mining really changed my life, it's soo much easier and you can find diamonds easier :3 you should try it if you haven't already

Mining is not my strongest in Minecraft 😭 and with the more updates to the caves make me, want to stay away even more, i think stip mining is my to-go now 😭
I've been playing minecraft for over 10 years and I still avoid caves as much as possible 💀 I'm definitely a strip miner.

Ive found that if you light up the caves as you explore them, it limits all of the mobs spawning

why your torch not brighten the area when you are holding it? light the area when you go minning.
