    Excellent introduction. Naming him and making comments about him moves this from just an exercise in carving to a personalized carving ,

    Review -- This video looks like it was designed by an educator, recorded and lit by a professional, and executed by an artist.. Any section of the carving process is easily reviewed with a single click!. Watching the figure take shape under the knife is a satisfying experience in itself. The only problem is he makes it look so easy..

    Really like how you have each step labeled... really a good project for the beginner. I'll utilize your instruction for teaching my grandchildren how to carve. Thanks!

    No project is simple if you never carved anything. This is the clearest presentation of carving a wizard I've seen so far on TH-cam. Good discussion of what you're doing. Video shows clearly how your knife is making the cuts. Nice job. You explain everything well.

      Wanted to ask as someone who tends to overthink things... did you practice using your different blades before committing to one you liked more or did you just dive in and give it your best with whatever one felt more natural?

    Can you carve Gandalf the great. Since you said this one is a wizard. Or do a carving of the hobbit.

    I get so nervous making those deep outline cuts for the beard/mustache slicing the tip straight into the block. Any advice to make sure that's done as safely as possible?

    • @WoodcraftersCorner
      @WoodcraftersCorner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I totally understand. I recommend gloves, of course, but also I think a thicker knife blade makes it easier to control. Choke up on the handle quite a bit, maybe even hold the blade itself, like you would a pencil. Then make sure to pull the lines more than push, and that the hand that's holding the wood is out of the way should the blade slip.
      Hope that helps!

    • @jiffey_faux
      @jiffey_faux 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WoodcraftersCorner wow thanks a bunch! I have a glove on order now, I'm a guitarist and can't afford to damage the hands :). Choking up on the handle gives a lot more security, and I will focus on pressing less into the cut, and more along the cut. Makes sense that if there's no hand in the path, it should be safer..
      Great channel! I'm really enjoying this hobby thanks in huge part to content creators like yourself!

    I am having so much trouble cutting out the cheekbones. Either I end up splintering the wood, making too shallow of cuts, or cutting the nose clean off :(

    • @gmgllc8059
      @gmgllc8059 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've run into the same difficulty, especially cleanly cutting out the small triangle at the corner juncture of the nose and brow. When I finish with the nose, there is a deep, shredded space between the nose and the cheeks. I sure would like some advice.
