  • The Pretty Things - En concert à la Grange à Musique de Creil, les pionniers du British Blues Boom fêtent 50 ans de Rock n Roll. Après avoir créé les Rolling Stones avec Mick Jaegger et Keith Richard, le guitariste Dick Taylor fonde The Pretty Things en 1963 avec son ami d'enfance Phil May. Die PRETT THINGS - oh, meine LIEBLINGSBAND AUS DEN 60er Jahren...und ich liebe sie immer noch diese Musik und freu mich, daß sie hier zu finden sind...

    • @joki5346
      @joki5346 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ich habe sie zuerst im Fernsehen (Beat Club) gesehen und vor etlichen Jahren live hier in der Nähe von Bremen. Das müßte so die gleiche Zeit gewesen sein, wie diese Aufnahmen entstanden sind. Ich war von ihrer Vitalität wirklich angetan. Leider ist Phil May gestorben und damit schloß sich das Kapitel Pretty Things.

    Clean guitar playing, fluid, natural, real, tight, evolved drummer. The name Pretty Things fitted in with the Hippie Movement started in the 60's and continued into the 70's.

      When the Pretty Things first came on the scene there was no such thing as hippies. That came several years later.

    A funny thing in regards to us "older folks".... By looking at those two in an interview who on the street would guess their past and ability to still play great music. Same goes for me and everyone else ,,,, the average person on the street have NO IDEA what lies in our past.

    They sound like the first band I was ever in when I was 16. Rudimentary skill, zero dynamics, no concept of relative volume, inaudible vocals. They're awesome.

    • @mikemyers1912
      @mikemyers1912 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct they are awesome. And they were a crucial part of a wave of heartfelt, groundbreaking bands that played nasty loud blues and didn't bank on a pretty boy image. They let it all out and didn't care about pop music success. They paved the way for punk bands who traveled the same roads 10-15 years later.

    • @TrickyRic58
      @TrickyRic58 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That might be the entire point of their name, Tamsin. It's that good old, and fast disappearing, English sense of self-deprecation; you might even call it irony. No one ever saw them as 'pretty', even in way back in 1964. As Nik Cohn wrote in 1969:
      "Man, they were ugly. I mean really ugly - Phil May, the singer had a fat face, entirely hidden by hair, and he'd bang about the stage like some maimed gorilla. The others looked even badder. And their music was all chaos: the big bad blues. Actually, it wasn't either big or the blues. Bad it was, however."
      While Mr. Cohn was harsh on their early music, although not by much, as it was indeed chaotic, he described the look of the group correctly. One of the entirely pointless conversation topics of 1964-65 was whether a pretty boy like Keith Relf or Brian Jones could convincingly play the blues when they were so, well 'pretty. Phil May, Mick Jagger and Van Morrison all passed the test because all the guys thought them to be ugly. We should have enquired to see what the girls thought.

    Dick Taylor made the right decision, leaving what would have been a load of $$$ to create the punkiest rock of 1964, the first rock opera and influence Bowie, Morrison (both), Hendrix, Page, Gilmour, The Ramones, The Sex PIstols and The Clash. They are the only band Bob Dylan name dropped in song.
