    It would be nice if any of these videos about thinning would show the results down the road

    I gave up on thinning fruit. Every year my tree is loaded with fruitlets which I thin. Come harvest time, the squirrels run off with my fruit. The birds peck the fruit left by the squirrels. Any remaining fruit has moth larvae burrowing through it. This year I’m trying something different. If I leave all the fruit on the tree, there may be a peach or two left for me after all the critters have had there fill.

      amantedelenguaje2 I heard you can put mulch around the tree and it deters squirrels.

    What do you recommend for preventing plum curculio damage?

    Found this video to be very helpful for me. Growing flat peachs for the first time this year and I have thinned it out as per your instructions and the tree and fruit seem to be great because of it. 👍☺️

    I have 2 trees in the back and I am now learning all I can about peach trees. I didn't plant them. They were here when we moved in. So thrilled to have them though!

    I admire your patience. I have a peach tree that is about twice as large as yours. I do not let it grow high by pruning it regularly. But it has grown in width a lot. And I now has maybe several thousand fruit which cover practically all the branches like grapes. It is quite laborious to thin them. I spent 2 hours today and maybe finished just 30%. Where I live (in Spain) peaches are being grown commercially on huge scale and during the season (from April till October) they cost almost nothing (50 cents a kilo or so). And the fruit is quite delicious and the size is okay as well. I wonder how do commercial growers achieve that. I doubt very much they thin their trees because the price would be higher if too much labor was involved. Is there some special machinery to do this task?

      Magre I read that you can do it with a pressure washer , just kind of go at it lol

    We didn't do this on our young trees last year. They were loaded with peaches but they were all fairly small. I will be thinning this year though. Thanks for the tips!

    So keep it at about 6 feet tall let it get wide and thin them to prevent overloading the branch is this the idea
    I live in zone 9a palmcoast Florida

    Hello, my tree is much bigger. But you are right: last year a branch snapped :(
    Do you trim your trees? I heard that peach tree should be trimmed from top because they like getting Wider rather than taller. Is that true?

    What do you do to prevent the worms inside the peach(peach curculio)?

    • @plantabundance
      @plantabundance  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No issues to speak of thus far. Polyculture is the best preventative in my opinion. Diversity brings a balance of predator and prey insects.

    Can chickens eat the peaches you took off the tree?

      Patience is a virtue my friend. I could have completed the task in half the time if it weren't for me filming the process. Cheers!

    So how many peaches do you think get left on the tree?

    • @plantabundance
      @plantabundance  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      100+ and I'm very happy with that. The trees structure will continue to develop and I look forward to 150 big plump peaches next year. I also have another variety of peach, Babcock White, which ripens later on in succession with the Florida King.

      Thanks! I followed your example and took some off my peach tree this morning. I wasn't quite as aggressive as you were but I did not have near as many as you as my tree is only about three years old. But I did take about half off. I will let you know how it works.
