    You should get a wireless driveway alarm to let you know when a truck is coming up

    In my experience, The sewer pump setup works great for a few full tank dumps. Because there’s no swoosh it seems to leave a little in the tank. I would do an extra black water rinse each time, and then when I could I’d dump at a station where a good swoosh could happen and rinse the tank well. I like the pump system, but thought I’d throw in that tip.
    Happy gate guarding. I emailed Anna a link to one of you TH-cams, and how impressed I was with your comments on J & G. I’m hoping to be part of the team this year. I just need an RV.

    Easy money eh? Guess if you could occupy your mind with something that would be ok. But what about being active? Not sure sitting all day would be healthy for me. Very interesting to learn about these jobs.

    A few years ago gate guards got into trouble talking about their gates. And for sure big trouble filming the rig site. I thought it all was so paranoid, but I think maybe A lot of competition with oil companies? I had been interested in gate guarding back then, but couldn't find much info because of that. They even threatened the gate guards with getting let go with no hope of getting hired by anyone, so I'm glad things have changed. I am getting interested again, so thanks for your vids.

      +Rachel Williams The company we work for was happy to let us do some filming. We try to be careful about filming the truck drivers, we ask permission first. Now, as for filming the rig site where the drilling, fracking, etc is happening, we have to be very careful about that. The oil companies are very protective of that stuff. When we were on a frac site we could not film the rig itself. Big no-no.
      We hope our videos have helped you decide whether or not this is something you would be interested in. It’s definitely not for everyone. But we enjoy it!

    Like your new pump. It looks like you have a decent setup at your new gate. Are you liking J&G? Where are you? Are you liking gate guarding. Heck! I should just call. Glad to see you have some steady work. Oh, and I like Tracy's boots. Tracy should do the next video and show off Johnny's boots. Stay safe out there. Bye!

    Where are your safety vests?

    • @NoAcresHomestead
      @NoAcresHomestead  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diane Robinson We do normally have them on. Tracy came out just to help while I was filming and forgot to put hers back on. Johnny took his off because he had been doing a few things by the generator and the wind kept blowing the bottom of the vest into the equipment. But yes, we do wear them.

    Is there WiFi? Are these places in range of cell towers? I can't imagine not having something to occupy my mind while sitting there.

    How much do you get paid to do this job? It looks so easy.

    • @NoAcresHomestead
      @NoAcresHomestead  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be very easy, depending on the type of gate. We got lucky with this one. Our last gate was a frac site and we were extremely close to the pad. It was a very busy gate, and with the noise it was difficult to sleep. This gate is a lot slower, so we actually spend time together, playing board games, cooking, etc. This type of gate pays around $175/day. When you figure how much time you actually work, it's pretty good pay. We figured out that we really only "work" maybe 3 hours a day. Some folks tend to break it down by a 24 hour pay, which isn't much at all, but we aren't technically working the whole 24 hours. Most of the time we are just living. The joke goes "we get paid to sit around and watch Netflix"! LOL

    Good video! What do you do if somebody drive right by you without stopping?

    • @NoAcresHomestead
      @NoAcresHomestead  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Frank60942 There’s different ways to handle that scenario. Let’s say it’s a water truck that doesn’t stop. If I’m able to see the license plate, I make a note of it. I speak to them the next time they come they the gate. If they continue to blow thru after that, I report them and it is now up to their boss as to what happens to them. If it’s a pickup truck that flat out barrels they at high speed, I immediately call my boss or the company man. They send someone to take care of it right then.
      There are 16 hours each day where only 1 of us is awake. If that person has to answer the call of nature, the drivers are supposed to know to stop and wait for the guard. There actually was an occasion where a driver said that because no one was outside he didn’t feel he needed to stop. He was told the circumstance (when you gotta go, you gotta go!) and was asked to please stop next time.

      RV S.W.A.T would it be ok or appropriate to post a sign that says guard will return in 5 min or on RR break?

    Why did you guys decide to switch companies?

    • @NoAcresHomestead
      @NoAcresHomestead  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jim Hormann We wanted a long-term gate rather than moving every week or 2, and didn’t want to be in a shack.

    How often do they dump and refill your tanks for you?

    • @NoAcresHomestead
      @NoAcresHomestead  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joseph Hoak They usually come out once a week to top us off. Sometimes a little more than a week. We don’t run out of fuel or water very fast, and we can empty our gray and black water tanks many times before the holding tank is full. Every week when we email our time sheets, we include the balance of our tanks. That lets them know when they need to send someone out here. A lot of these gates are out in the middle of nowhere, so they don’t want to send someone if they aren’t needed yet.

    Do you get any time off together?

    • @NoAcresHomestead
      @NoAcresHomestead  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Karin Ross We are able to schedule a relief guard occasionally if we want to take some time off, otherwise no. Someone has to be on the gate at all times. We did get to go to San Antonio together today. That was nice!
