That's a good question. They are both similar - up in the mountains, lots of nice big trees, etc. Dogwood is fairly close to Arrowhead, but McGill not far from Lake Castaic. Dogwood has better facilities - restrooms (flush), water, etc.
You may see an occasional bear cruise through Dogwood Campground in the evenings but it's not a regular occurence. And the bears are not dangerous if left alone (don't feed, try to pet, etc.).
Our favorite Dogwood campsites are12, 22, 26, 40, 46, 48, 49, 50, 51, 76, 77, 85, 90 and 91. We choose these based on location (views, next to water, away from high traffic areas), size, privacy and if they are fairly level. There really isn't any campsite that is out by itself - away (and hidden) from other sites/campers.
