- I an indepth look at George Pal's 1960 academy Award winning movie about the misadventures of a time traveling inventor in the far future as he deals with war, Cannibals and Eloi- the other white meat.

One of the best science fiction films of all time, especially concerning time travel.
Some guy wanted to find the actual full-sized time machine and possibly buy it, and finally found it rotting in a little thrift shop in pieces. He immediately assembled it, then paid a set designer to re-recreate all the missing parts. But just finding it was a complete miracle. He now tours the country with it, to the delight of movie goers everywhere.

But today’s more sophisticated audiences would like to see a faithful to a tee version of themuch darker book.
Which won’t be a pleasure to watch for everbody.
After seeing the movie,
I borrowed the book.
To say that it’s a pleasant read
would be a Pinocchio’s nose of a nova.
Nevertheless, I was hypnotized to finish it, and the descriptions
of the end of the 🌍 🌎 🌏 stay with me to this day.
I was age NINE when I first saw this in a theater, and I love it now as much as I loved it then! Total classic!
Some of the shots of the destruction of London in 1966 were actually from other films like War of the Worlds and White Christmas.
I always loved this movie especially the special effects when traveling through time so well done for the time
As an avid history buff, I personally would have used the machine to check out the past for an era and geographic location that interested me enough to settle into. My historical books would be my travel logs👌
As a 6 year old, my headcannon for george surviving an atomic blast was that he was protected by his machine. I reached that strange hypothesis because the 1960 movie and the 1993 reunion scene allude to how the "infernal" machine was alive and seducing george, and my 6 year old self took it literally. Another thing that contributed to that mystical sentiment was that the control panel had a face; one would think a victorian time vehicle utilizes numerical dials rather than a tri-colored liquid crystal display articulated into a face.

One of the four men at the start of the film was in the 1960s T.V. show The Time Tunnel work with what you know I guess ....?

65TH Anniversary coming up next year. Theatrical re-release is needed.
even though i'm 20 years old i saw this movie in my early teen years, this was a pretty freaky movie but bad at the same time
There was a made-for-TV remake in the 70's in which he stops during the Salem witch trials and they try to burn him and his machine. And the magic rings were a VCR and projection TV. It was corny but fun.
Kinda wish they would have explored the far further future after the Eloi, the red giant phase of the sun was explored then.
Why only 3 books? Talk about short sighted‼️ All he has to come up with us one faulty or needed to be replaced part on his machine & he’ll be stuck where he is with what & who he has….. Dope‼️
In the novel, he gtes some camphor and matches at the museum ... . . .

The time machine was powered by crystals. I don’t think EMP’s have effect. Star Trek did the same thing.
At least the time machine did not need something with a little more kick Plutonium.
This apparently gave the time machine the 1.21 Gigawatts of electricity that it needed.
@@notthatdigusted7468 You’d have to read the book, but in Star Trek and The Time Machine they used crystals cause it wasn’t as scary.
That's right as the crystalline lever is what gives the machine it's power. Good thing George took it with him where ever he went.
Plus, the time machine in Napoleon Dynamite ran on crystals.😂😂😂
I love this film and watch it whenever it's on. Movie starts with him returning from the future late to a dinnef with his friends. If you have a time machine how are you late for anything??
The ending of the film leaves you wondering and continuing the story in your own head. It's that good it leaves you wondering what happened next.
Definitely fits into today's cinema experience of leaving the audience on a cliff hanger and setting up a sequel
Listen to the music at the end of the film; 'Weena's Theme' is repeated, with some of the most heart-breaking violin lines ever written. The composer is telling you that the Time Traveller's saga will have a bittersweet ending.

One more miss when George traveled in 1966 London notice that most of the cars on the street were American not British cars no Jaguars and other British made cars. Fun review

@@classicallybadcinema2504 MGM was being cheap they could have shot the movie in the UK since they have a studio and film some actually shots in London but instead Hollywood soundstage all the way
Such a great film and really amazing effects for the time period and they did a good job adapting the book to film
The animations are great, and the matte paintings as well. The miniatures, and how they are shot, however, are not terribly well executed. The opticals are also not terribly good: most of the composite shots have really noticeable matte lines. I'm hoping that a place like Criterion Collection can remaster the film and fix some of the compositing issues. The miniature work, sadly, is probably there to stay. It's a scifi classic, and deserves some care.
I've always liked this film. It's easy to forgive them of some layers of cheese.
A good film for 1960 but Pal's 1953 War of the Worlds is far superior.

Why in the world would he have such little interest in time travel that he can’t manage to stir up his interest or curiosity to spend more than a few minutes in each era⁉️He’s Got All The Freakin’ Time In The World‼️ & winds up in the least interesting, most depressing, most devoid of anyone he can have an intelligent conversation with‼️….. “genius” is wasted on the wrong people 😵💫
The 1966 armegeddon sequence I can explain... the Atomic Satellite and granted you explained most of it? However but there was some footage that wasn't released of the street splitting apart with an earthquake which ties together that the weapon itself was able to cause geological instability also as you said no volcanoes exist in Britain... but... there's one in Scotland but that's extinct.. besides that point there had to be a cliche to how George gets to 802,701 and usually volcanic eruptions during sci-fi/disaster movies of that period was the answer in the plot to carry the story forward.
This is my favorite film. Rod Taylor is the Man.

Rod Taylor had a lot of gravitas; he was good in this. The late Yvette Mimieux basically got her start here . . . .
Now, they both belong to the ages.
