    So glad I saw this video. I had no idea these existed and it's a great place to store our safety net funds! One question for HSAV, since interest is reinvested into the fund, is there anything that can cause the price to drip rapidly (ie, interest rate decline, mass sales by large stakeholders, etc?)

    My understanding: Horizons' CASH can be held in an RRSP; it is possible to buy or sell units anytime during market hours like other ETFs; distributions are paid monthly and are not taxed in a registered account - only withdrawals would be taxed accordingly. Are there any other caveats or consequences of holding and selling this ticker in an RRSP (other than the lack of CDIC)? Thanks

    Great video, but can you explain what HSAV means by this:
    "TORONTO - February 3, 2022 - Horizons ETFs Management (Canada) Inc. (“Horizons ETFs” or the “Manager”) is announcing the suspension of new subscriptions to the Horizons Cash Maximizer ETF (“HSAV” or the “ETF”), effective at the close of business today, February 3, 2022. The suspension of new subscriptions follows HSAV reaching approximately $2.0 billion in net asset value (“NAV”), as of February 3, 2022."
    I just don't get what they mean about no more new subsciptions, does that mean over 2 billion in net asset value, you can't invest in this ETF?
    If so, I guess that I would have choice to park in $CASH unless there is another substitute to HSAV.

    • @StocktradesLtd
      @StocktradesLtd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can still buy HSAV but it will be at a premium to NAV. You kind of have to weigh your situation to see if it is beneficial to pay a bit more for HSAV or to buy CASH. Hard for me to give direct indication of what to do

  • @Dantai
    @Dantai ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry, let me try asking again, so many typos last time.
    I was wondering what do you think of buying HSAV today, despite its subscriptions being suspended?
    For example, today's premium was about 0.58% above NAV, and from my quick math, it seems like you'd get back the premium paid in about a 1 to 1.5 months in growth - the interest/dividends paid out within the ETF.
    That seems like it'd be fine if rates maintain. Is it worth getting HSAV today for the tax-efficiency, or does it trading above NAV complicate it. What do you think?

      Unfortunately if the big banks don't offer them, you can't buy them. I find very little advantage to any big bank brokerage besides convenience really. I'm not sure how they're keeping clients these days on the brokerage front besides maybe National Bank which has commission free trades (and they offer these funds to buy). You can put them inside tax sheltered accounts yes.

    Great video. If one were to put this in their Childs RRSP would it be best to stick with the CASH vehicle over the HSAV for long term hold? Also is there a high interest ETF following the USD but purchased with CAD? From what I understand the HSUV is USD>CAD. Is it prudent to buy cash at the first of the month when the ETF is around 50$ following a 20c dip. Thanks.

    • @StocktradesLtd
      @StocktradesLtd  ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn't really matter when you bought it. If you bought CASH at the start of the month, you'd accumulate 20c over a month. If you bought it halfway through, you'd accumulate 10c over half a month. Same thing. HSAV is tricky right now due to NAV premium. Holding long term however does reduce the risk of the fund trading at a premium to NAV.

      In CASH or HSAV, you are exposed to savings deposit accounts at the big banks, and the only way you'd lose your money is in the event of insolvency. With HMAX, you are exposed to general market movement, earnings of the banks etc

    I thought I commented on this post a while ago. Good fund for now, but it should be known new shares of HSAV have stopped. So it is bound to act more randomly, and has been versus GICs and Cash. I'm guessing not an interest rate increase equal to dividends. But it depends on the fund. Just like anything, buy low, sell high. Even in these cash ones.

So, with the new year and new TFSA contribution limit, could we place say $5000 of CASH.to into a broker (lets say WealthSimple because they're commission free). And just keep that amount there while building monthly div. and just sell when you're ready to buy a stock? So if you buy each month (dollar coast average over 2023) then this would be a better alternative then leaving it in the bank? Is it too good to be true?

CASH has around 1B in the fund which is nuts. My big issue is if the base price of CASH ever goes down below $50, like from a bank run. Also no CDIC coverage is another negative for me.
