This was awesome and very helpful for ‘red-on-red’ flowers (as you said). Could you do a similar demonstration for yellow flowers, all ‘yellow-on-yellow’.... like yellow roses or frilly daffodils?

I struggled with my rose painting. Than one night it occured to me maybe I cant paint it because I don't have all the information. The next day I was looking through the internet looking for how to paint a realistic red rose and saw your site! I was so excited! I am still excited, you helped me break through my artist block and move forward with my painting. I am awhile from being done but at least I am moving forward. It is a 24 x 30 canvas with tons of roses on it. Perfect video for me. Thank You so much!!!

I've always wanted to paint a rose but couldn't. I love this tutorial. It really helped. I found the grid reference but the link to the chalk pencil (I couldn't understand the name you said) you're using goes to children's chalk?
Try water colour pencils.

I was kinda worried about how to paint flowers and anything with details but drawing a grid and then continuing is a very good tip, you have my thanks for that. 😊😊

I do a mopping swoosh scrubing motion to blend. Wears out my bristles unless i use a really stiff brush I found . Its like a round , but very short bristles and tapered around the edges. Maybe like an artichoke at the top pointed side.

Do you let every layer dry completely before applying another layer?
It depends on if you are blending, especially wet into wet areas. I show when to dry between layers. 🤍
I’m watching this happen and it still looks so much like magic, I almost can’t see it happen. I’m just going to quit procrastinating and pick up my paint and brushes in the morning and do it. I know I can, but I’m so scared of the roses. But I’m just going to jump in and do it.

I have trouble choosing a complimentary dark shadow palet in blush colours. For this rose. The ones i choose are toi far apart so it ends up too orange and overall too dark. Does that make sense.
And i have even the same problem with purple's. Can you give me a hint on two to mix togrther for shadows or direct me to a video by chance. Please
Best way to fix that is to a tine tone shade color chart and then you can choose what colors are best. Plus you save tons of money on not buying colors you dont need

I am noticing how she takes several looks towards her reference photo during the highlight strokes. Along edges.
And these colours seam to stay as they are wet. So many times the dried version of my original painting differ from the wet look.
I have seen read where sometimes it is good to paint with the largest brush.
The corner reference plays tricks with your eyes here. At one point I thought they were the same and i had somehow missed the water bubbles.
On second assermation. I now see she was looking at monitor. Which is maybe even more cool. Can you see the distance result at same time as up close?
Signature blends well and reads as another highlight.

Just FYI, I was taught to use Dove liquid soap to wash my brushes with. Load it up with the soap, and under running water, slap it gently down on the flat side. Continue to do this until all the paint is gone. Then add some soap to the bristles and pinch it off going towards the end of the bristles, and dry thoroughly. Rememeber rinse the brush off the next time you use it, before you dip it in the paint!!
