  • Ok..
    1) I realize that it's out of focus. I shot a quick vid for a friend and figured everyone can view.
    2) This is applicable to the Jaguar/Jazzmaster/Tele w/ Bigsby style bridge, but most notably.. the Jaguar/Jazzmaster
    3) Each set screw to a particular bridge piece must be at the same height. The saddle cannot be angled.
    4) If you like, a dab of: white glue, blue or purple loctite, or clear (or color) nail polish may be applied to the set screws to prevent them from vibrating out -particularly if the thread fit is sloppy..

So true. Happy to see someone explain properly.
The original bridge gets a lot of hating, but when set up properly (!!) it is great. A bonus is that you can adjust your string spacing if the guitar builder screwed up the alignment.
    Just make sure that:
1.your strings are thick enough (tension.. so they don't jump out the slot),
    2. you set the bridge saddles horizontal on their screws (as in this video),
    3. the 6th string intonation screw doesn't poke against the string when you set it up, if necessary.. shorten the screw,
    4. It's a rocking bridge, make sure it can lean both forward and backward without hitting the thimbles after you tuned it.
    5. break angle on the saddles is big enough (add a shim in the rear of the neck pocket if needed).

Thanks so much for this vid- I was having bad rattle on the top three strings of my VMJM, and tried what you suggest here. The rattle was still present after adjusting the saddle screws of the E and G strings, but with one turn of the B string saddle, ALL of the rattle went away. I was considering some other methods to fix the problem, but now I don't need to- thanks again!

Did you see the picture link in the description?
Take your time... maybe fresh strings? Set overall height, then intonation. Do one string at a time, getting them in the radius, height you want. Once you are in the ballpark, check for that buzzing. Remove one saddle set screw at a time adding the drop white glue to the threads (see vid description). funny how just a little gap makes all the buzz...or not.
I've noticed older bridges had less play and slop in the screws and saddles.

I use clear finger nail polish. comes off easy. also I rock the bridge towards the pick guard in it's natural resting place and even tho it looks like it won't rock back and forth it still does and never goes out of tune. you may need to dremmel the ends of the intonation screw on low E. A strings. get a nail file and zip it across the string saddle for the low strings and they will never jump out. I
finally a little plumber's tape on the whammy bar.
be warned that a mustang bridge is not spaced correctly for a jm or jag. and a buzzstop kills the overtones charm of the guitar. once you get these crazy bridges set you can whammy all day and they stay in tune perfectly.

dear bean head: use lo tire on the thread. it shouldn't come loose after. do not use red lictors or you will make it nearly impossible to undo. Blue loctite.

I can't seem to find these screws inside the posts. I used kind of the same tool as you did. But it didn't "hook" to any screws. I have a squier Jaguar, and by looking inside the posts with a flashlight and magnifying glass, there are no screws, just a flat bottom.

Use a inbus key 1.5 mm (the smallest) and it works. I have a Squier VM Jaguar too with orginal bridge. Turn each screw 360 degrees clockwise, buzz is gone. In combination with strings 11-48

Thanks so much for sharing ! ! I just picked one up and right out of the box, "Buzzzz", will adjust accordingly. I was wondering if you think it is necessary to place a tube/shim around both adjustment posts in order to keep the bridge from rocking. Any thoughts ?

Hey, I bought a Fender Jaguar about a year ago and had no problems with it until a few months ago. Basically what happens is the part that you screw the tremolo arm into keeps coming loose and falling down inside of the guitar leaving the tremolo arm and system absolutely useless. I've put it back into place many times but it slowly works its way loose again. Maybe somebody could help me out here? I really have no idea what to do now, thanks.

    Buy a buzz stop

    • @spadearcher5178
      @spadearcher5178 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Buzz stop changes the tone and feel of Jaguars and Jazzmasters. A good bridge setup (beginning with appropriately shimming the neck in most cases) is the way to go for those who want to preserve the jangly tone of these guitars (and the lovely overtones produced by the strings behind the bridge). It’s also the cheapest way, you only need to buy some cheap clear nail varnish.
I’ve tried both the buzz stop and a Mustang bridge, and none come close to the original jangly tones of the true Jag/Jazz bridge IMO
