Learn how to make an easy and affordable do it yourself (DIY) greenery garland that can be used in home or even wedding decor.
    What you need:
    Wire (like this: amzn.to/2lhC3bT)
    String (I use twine amzn.to/2likrN5)
Scissors (amzn.to/2lg4yXp) OR wire cutters (amzn.to/2lg0giL)
Greenery! Silver dollar eucalyptus and seeded eucalyptus are great options that will also dry nicely. Other good options include baby eucalyptus, boxwood, lemon leaves, myrtle, and ruscus. If you would like to add some color, consider incorporating flowers that will look great fresh and dry nicely. Some flowers to consider are roses, gomphrena, statice, baby’s breath, lavender, and/or celosia.
    Here are some faux options:

*make sure to get 2-3 different varieties of greenery
How to Make a DIY Eucalyptus Greenery Garland
Purchase 2-3 varieties of greenery from your local florist or grocery store.
Cut the greenery to make 3 different size stems and sort them into groups of long, medium, and short lengths.
Take a long stem and pair with 2-3 shorter stems
Place the group of stems along a string of twine that is cut to the desired length of the finished garland. Attach the greenery bundle using a strand of wire. Do NOT cut the wire until the garland is finished.
Create another bundle of greenery, layer over the stems of the original bundle, and secure by wrapping the wire down the stems of greenery and string of twine until you get to the bottom of the stems.
Continue step 5 until you are about 3/4 of the way done
To create a finished look, switch the direction of eucalyptus, following the same directions in step 5 and using the same original wire. Be sure to tuck stems in as you go.
When you reach your desired length, wrap the wire around the stems a few extra times to secure, cut the wire and wrap around the stems to hide the end.

How many pieces of eucalyptus do you need per foot of garland? Trying to figure out whether it’s feasible to make a 50 foot garland from fresh eucalyptus. Thanks!

It depends on the type of eucalyptus you use and how think you want the garland to be. It's definitely do able!

how do you figure out the amount of greenery you need for an 8 foot table. I know it will vary on how full you want the garland. but I just need a baseline

That is very tricky because there are a lot of different variables including how full you want the garland and how long and full each stem is. I've found I can get the most fullness and length with the least amount of stems by using different varieties and alternating as I go. If you wanted a full 8 foot garland, I would give a rough estimate of 20-30 stems. If you find very full, long stems, you could potentially get away with less. I'm sorry I can't give you a more definitive answer but I hope this is helpful.
