- Scarlet Tanagers are cardinals that live high in forest canopies in the Northeastern United States. They migrate to South America twice a year across the Gulf of Mexico.
This title and other releases from The Bird Guide Channel are bird guides in video format. Use them to identify species by sight and sound and learn bird behavior such as feeding and nesting habits.

Chanced to spot one taking a drink from the tiny stream in my oak/hickory forest here in northern IL. Never saw one before in ~12 years living here - I feel quite lucky.
What an intimate experience. Hope it's not 12 more years before you spot another one! Great share.
Been enjoying your videos, like the vibrant colors with birds in the best environment. I've rescued Scarlet Tanagers before, beautiful birds. A friend & I rescue songbirds . A recent youtube video shows us in Newark NJ, the video is named ( Volunteers give migrating birds injured in N.J’s biggest city a second chance ) Also TRT made a older video when we first started named ( Window Strikes in the Business District ) of us picking up injured Warblers
Appreciate your work in the field!
I have one of these in my back yard right now, never spotted on before. I do not think they are common in this area at all! I live in Phoenix AZ
What a special moment. Thanks for sharing the rare sighting! Hopefully it won't be the last.
Wow we are lucky!
