This does not change the fact that in Australia there are 48 million kangaroos and in Uruguay there are 3,457,380 inhabitants. So if the kangaroos decide to invade Uruguay, each Uruguayan will have to fight 14 kangaroos.

Cracked has gotten so bad lately. It was always a little on the self-righteous side with politics pre-2014, but after Trump they dropped all pretenses and went as far left as they could get. Last I checked it's nothing but strawmanning and repeating everything mainstream news says, but with "jokes" added. I gave up on them the moment they had an article defending pediatriacian bibliophiles (Combine the prefix and the suffix of those words) because they were "Born that way and can't help it." that was also when I knew the left is a side I can't possibly associate with anymore. For that level of disgust they produced I think they're even worse than buzzfeed, because at least Buzzfeed to my knowledge never went to such unforgivable lengths.

Even worse, the tests are basically a low-effort way to get you to hand them data about you, so they can sell it to advertisers. And I'm sure they do the deceptive website tricks like counting a scroll down as a page visit, so it artificially inflates the page hit count so they get more ad revenue. Or making you click a "next" button to go to the next list entry, so the page refreshes each time and boosts the hit number. Ok, but then why introduce it to them like that? I don’t really like the idea of telling someone which dictator they “are” based on a few personality similarities; to me that just belittled the nature of the stuff they actually did. I mean, I’m part Levantine myself, but I don’t want anyone telling me that I’m like any Arabic-speaking strongman leader because I hate all those people and want them out of power anyway.

I went to a university that had a lot of people that agreed with Buzzfeed's... Style politically. The ratio of women to men at the university was roughly 7:1. These kinds of videos and 'facts' were parroted endlessly, and it resulted in a lot of hate towards men on the campus, including the occasional - not even hidden or attempted to be secretive - open plotting to falsely accuse males on campus for a variety of sexual related misconduct. The atmosphere was, in certain spaces, very hostile. It was once I learned that these people were often simply repeating whatever they heard on Buzzfeed that week, I began to hate it.
Honestly, the irony that a number of people on campus would berate men for not understanding a woman's body, while in the very next breath shame them for sitting with their legs partly open because "I have boobs on my chest and don't have my arms wide open all day so you don't need your legs open" (that is to say, demonstrating a clear lack of understanding of the opposite sex's biology, the same thing they berated others for)... It was just a hivemind of hypocrisy and tension. It was an unhealthy environment based around an unhealthy mindset.
Attending university during a time that Misandry was masquerading as Feminism was a stressful experience I have no desire to experience again.

I went to college with a couple of the OG Buzzfeed TH-cam contributors (people you would recognize if you watched a lot of their stuff) and when the channel was blowing up it was kind of neat to be able to say "hey, I know those guys!" but never really paid much attention to their content. It never occurred to me until now just how little I see it now compared to what used to be the case.

The weirdest part of Buzzfeed is their serious journalism. Like their reporting over events is actually good, to the point I believe they have won a Pulitzer. It's so bizarre and unfortunate for the reporters that don't get their work taken seriously because of the company they work for. I occasionally do quizzes and see their regional content such as BuzzFeed India since I won't lie it's kind of fun albeit basic, but ultimately the mainstream company that takes itself very seriously but very lightly at the same time and has failed to both and hence is outdated and bizarre. I hate using the term SJW, but they're literally quite that except they don't seem to have nuanced view of the issues to advocate for especially behind the scenes.

I think the reason they can be good is precisely because of how stupid the company is and how little they care. The big media outlets all need to report news with their particular slant so they can’t be honest. Since Buzzfeed didn’t make money off their reporting, it didn’t need that kind of heavy handed oversight.
Being left in obscurity doesn’t always mean quality, but it does mean that it isn’t stuck in the usual pitfalls of popular media.

If you're a company that baits people into thinking you're a website for vapid idiots, then the viewers are not the butt of the joke, the company is. At a certain point, it doesn't matter if it was done sarcastically. The Buzzfeed brand eventually represented thoughtless superficiality.
