You’d be surprised how many teens actually crochet or would like to learn. I think it’s more we just don’t talk about it as much because the people around us don’t know about it. Plus assuming others don’t crochet is a big factor.
I’m a fifteen year old and knit, and I usually get so embarrassed to talk about it because it’s typically associated with being a “granny hobby”. Knitting and crocheting are both wonderful forms of art and it’s so great to see such a supportive community!
I'm 16 and I've resulted to embracing being a grandma, between my back and knee pain, my possible hypertension, my tendinitis and the way I call everyone "my child", crocheting was just a hobby that fitted with this grandma vibe I'm going for now
just a tip from an experienced crocheter: when making amigurumi, flip it inside out (the tail end should be on the inside). it gives it a much smoother and cleaner look :)
Yeah, I noticed it once and I'm like omg I literally invented this. But, I don't do it in all of them it kinda depends what I want to do, idk I'm an indecisive person, so I take like 5 hours choosing the colors and patterns, so yeah this is no different lol

“these projects only take an hour to complete for experienced pros” me, an experienced crochet-er, who knows that time estimates for projects are L I E S: “oh no” please don’t let time estimates get you down. if you actually try to crochet within that time limit, you’ll either get carpal tunnel or get super discouraged. a sweater is never going to take 2 hours and the only time i’ve actually finished something relatively quickly was a simple sc square as a coffee cup coaster (i drink iced coffee and was tired of leaving a bunch of condensation on my desk)

As a self taught crochet person with a couple years under my belt, the best advice I can give is that it's really helpful to stretch your hands, specifically your hook hand. My sister taught me anti carpal tunnel exercises she uses for her hands when shes drawing, it really helps lessen the blow of long crochet sessions!
I wish I found other teenagers who crocheted when I was still a teen!! I’ll be 21 this year, but I’m still crocheting, and yes. I still start projects thinking I can do it in a day and then fast forward to a hundred years later and it’s not done
This^ also smaller projects like Amigurumi kill the hands. I can crochet bigger projects all day but the little ones are brutal to my hands. Clover amours are worth it especially with a 50% off coupon at JoAnn's! It is exciting to see so many younger people crocheting.

I know I'm older than all of the demographic here...but anyone that crochets automatically cool in my book. Ive been doing it for 10+ years and is a great craft Also if your hands cramp a lot or you enjoy crocheting for hours, you need to get some compression gloves. Lion Brand makes some and they help a lot
Love this sooo much 😌 a lil tip I would recommend when doing amigurumi is downsizing ur hook size by one or two sizes. This is general practice for most amigurumi and will definitely help u achieve a more accurate depiction of what ur trying to make ☺️

This is great. What a challenge! This is helping me remember why I started crocheting in the first place. When I first started my hand cramped so much, but I have old lady hands even though I'm 34. (you probably already read this 1000 times lol) but they have crochet hook covers that will make the handles thicker and easier to use. Also they have diy hook covers on pinterest, with different color polymer clay. You can do cool designs. I hope this is helpful. It's such as awesome and fun skill to have.
I can crochet an entire intermediate-grade stuffed animal in a day, but my hands really hate me afterwards and I might not necessarily have the energy left to stitch all the pieces together afterwards. I may have done a lot of crocheting of stuffed animals in one day while I was at home during the quarantine...
I used to get really bad carpal tunnel around Christmas when i would try to make gifts for everyone. Later I switched to miniature amigurumi using 1.5 ~ 1.4 mm crochet hooks and ive noticed even when i crochet a lot i never got carpal tunnel. It's only when i try to crochet big items it comes back.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who starts a project then get really excited about starting something else, start it, and then never finish both??😞
Even if you didn't finish everything, you put in effort, and that's what matters! I have days like that too with sewing but I focus more on making a good project than finishing things as fast as possible.
