It is still amazing. That a bike basically built by a guy in a shed in NZ, could run with the Japanese bikes. Even tho the Jap factories had over 30 years development to their advantage. The bike & the man are now Legends.

That was incredible seeing the rider jump back up. That air fence is a brilliant idea.

Wow, Dowson did a 2:18 lap on the old first gen FZR1000in 88? shit he was fast on those old FZRs. There is a great video of him racing on one in the Swann series production race at Oran park in 86, (Yamaha sent him one of the first 87 production models off the line to race) and he just clears off, he also raced it against 500cc GP bikes at Calder Park and was right up there.

Dowson was an amazing rider. He was fast on any type of bike. He beat Wayne Gardner fair and square in the 1985 Castrol 6 Hour, Michael was riding a Yamaha RZ500 while Gardner was on a 1000cc Honda. I started racing in 1981 on an RD350LC. Michael Dowson was in my first ever race, he lapped me before the end of the 5th lap in a 6 lap race.

@@jamesdoust6975 That was a great win on that RZ500, I recall Gardner calling the VF1000 a "big marshmallow" 😄

Love Bathurst....Bikes or cars it doesn't matter..Love it ! Wonder how the Motogp guys might handle the mountain.

There's only a handful of guys that would race that place...the rest would be crying their little eyes out. Same goes for the TT... to me real road racing separates the men from the boys.

@@archetypex65 The Isle of Man TT is borderline suicidal. It's their careers and life, not much point taking unnecessary risk.

As BIG as Australia is and they had to have the race on a track? Sad.
