Other than TV drams and films a lot of US on documentrys and news people looked like late 80s in the early 2000s. People dont change suddenly in their tastes it is a gradual thing.
Having been alive in 2005, I can tell you the pre-iPhone days were different and everywhere looked like this with the exception of the largest metropolitan areas. Life was different back then, I was 19, and I miss it. Everyone misses “the good old days” hence the trope of getting conservative as you get older
Crazy to have stumbled across this video! I'm the kid on the right at the blindfold match. "All these guys, the adults anyway, are experienced chess players." Way to throw shade at me, Lou :p
Interesting to watch Ben actually physically move pieces on a board, at 06:00... he moves five pieces in the time I would take to move one. I've watched him use the wall-board... blazing out moves with the cards in the pockets. He's at his most impressive when, on his Twitch stream, he's recognizing PGN notation games by sight... the crowd plays 'stump the GM', and he's not often stumped, able to correctly name games of his from decades ago. He also peppers his repartee with Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, Futurama, Seinfeld, Tarantino etc references... all that stuff, in one head.
I had no idea Ben had such a photographic memory, I saw other videos and just saw a slob with GM next to his name. Here he doesn't even look like a slob, he looks like a cool dude mafia guy too.
And you may be shocked to hear that Paul Morphy in 1851 or whatever, at the age of 21 -- being the greatest player in the world and history -- played and easily beat 10 French masters blindfolded, with many others helping the masters around a billiards table in the little bar/pub. The games took 10 hours and he barely moved and did not eat or drink for the entire time. One of the most remarkable stories I have stored in my memory. Paul is the greatest Chess player in history.
@@myst93 no, I'm actually curious as to which of the current GMs has proven that he is able to perform such a feat. And I mean under comparable circumstances as described in the original comment.
it says he's a grandmaster in this video, however ben didn't get his last gm norm until 2009, meaning he was only an IM at the making of this video... get your facts straight future seeing narrator guy from 2005

Good practice for playing against Twitch viewers on Chess.com...
Not true. I didn't play this game.
"Chess With Ben Finegold" 10 out of 14 minutes listening to some guy nobody knows talk about chess. Terrible.
