“Sonetti della notte e del mattino” di Giovanni Falsetti. XX "Attraverso la Grecia"

Cento sonetti. Cento stazioni inquiete di un viaggio esistenziale dall’oscurità alla luce.
“Attraverso la Grecia” è il sonetto di apertura della seconda sezione della silloge, intitolata “Per le porte dell’Ade”.
La discesa agli Inferi è un passaggio ineluttabile, se si vogliono sollevare interrogativi radicali sul lato tragico dell’esistenza umana, e tentare una risalita.
THROUGH GREECE
If my path has been a labyrinth,
Of empty trails, abruptly ending,
Or twisted, turning in absurd cycles,
Back to the starting point, unending;
How can the music's chords, so sweet and clear,
Offer solace, meaning, or relief?
Or loved ones' faces, fading, year by year,
Or glimpses of the sacred, brief and brief?
Are not these exits, broken, torn apart,
Like landslides? Isn't it far better then,
To call upon the Greek underworld's dark heart,
And seek the gates of Hades, death's domain?
To find an opening among the rocks,
Where Orcus dwells, and quench my burning thirst?
