The End Of TCM Movies UK HD (6th/7th July 2023)

TCM Movies closed down and ceased broadcasting in the UK and Ireland on Thursday 6th July (technically 5am on Friday 7th July), Sky pulled the plug early for Satellite TV customers, but Virgin Media and Sky Glass/Sky Stream customers could still watch the channel until the very end.
If including its history in the form of TNT Classic Movies from its launch in September 1993 (although TCM didn't launch in the U.S. until April 1994), it's the "oldest" version of "TCM" in the world, and launched on the same day as Cartoon Network UK.
Movies from TCM's classic movie library will air on the free-to-view channel - Quest instead.

15th October 1999-6th July 2023 (as TCM).
The final movie to air on TCM Movies in the UK was "Murder Most Foul" (1964) which aired on Friday 7th July at 2.10am
Final words ever said on a programme on TCM UK (on a Close Up documentary about actor Arnold Schwarzenegger): "I'll be back!" by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Followed by a clip of 2001: A Space Odyssey (removed for copyright purposes, full version can be seen on Twitter: / 1677436034953478146 then the TCM shutdown promo that has been airing on the channel. Then a piano audio loop played with TCM's logo on a grey background, this continued up until 6am on Virgin Media this was when the channel closed info card appeared on screen.

But that's a beautiful sound loop they got, not gonna lie.
A sad day. I remember when TCM was TNT Classic Movies and came on after Cartoon Network had finished at 9pm on the original Sky. Then when Sky Digital came along TNT became TCM, whist Cartoon Network went 24 hour. It's a shame the Warner Discovery merge has caused this.
It’s a shame too many companies that buys the Warner properties (AOL, AT&T, Discovery) with a strategy ends up in flames, all they do is damage the value for these Warner/Turner brands. If Discovery’s stewardship fails to live up, I suggest no one buys the Warner properties and let them run it independently just like Time Warner did 2003-2018.

Pre 1970 films will be shown on Talking Pictures TV, That’s TV Cinema and various U.K. channels
Close Up and Hollywoods Greatest Directors will be shown on Quest and Discovery+

This loop was used as a placeholder ident ever since it rebranded as ‘TCM Movies’, you would normally catch a glimpse of it at exactly 5.00am every morning (I have a video of such occasion on my alt), so it’s good to see the full loop.
I believe Cartoon Network has something like this as well
Cartoon Network has the zoom idents, they're usually shown when there's a missing gap in the playout playlist.

Interesting fact, at 7:51 the track used for the loop was also used as a bumper for TCM Latin America (TNT Classic) for their graphics package from 2012-2015 though it was shortened. I instantly recognize it within seconds.
15:08 TCM Movies stopped
Looked like Arnold wouldn’t be back, because TCM Movies put on their 2001: A Space Odyssey staff pick, the TCM Movies is ending promo, and then an over 55 minute long (for Virgin TV customers) loop. (By the way, Sky customers still have the loop on instead of a shutdown card now. Sky Satellite customers got TCM pulled at 4:10 am.). It’s weird how they restarted the loop at 5:01 am, and pulled the plug right after the TCM Movies shutdown promo.
What a legacy TCM had. May it rest peacefully..
I’ve noticed that TCM UK joined a few other countries that lost their versions of TCM (Latin America, Poland, few parts of Europe (though some were rebranded ‘TNT’ but now branded ‘Warner TV’ I think the Latin American version was renamed ‘TNT Classic’ since they focused on modern classics.

TCM Movies would have turned 30 (just like Cartoon Network from last year) in September after its closure.
Speaking of 30, TCM USA is scheduled to have it's 30th anniversary on April 14th.
That is, unless it joins TCM Movies and shuts down for the final time (which is very unlikely since the merger of warner bros/discovery only happened a year and 4 months ago)
