How minimal are you when packing for travel? On a scale of 1 to 10 - 1 being a one-bag travel backpacker; 10 being maxing out, and topping up your checked baggage allocation - where do you think you land on? Notes: Like we mentioned, every trip is different. Layers of warm clothes aren’t super necessary in our climate and where we’ll be heading to in the two-week trip (but the humidity also means it’s never pleasant to re-wear clothes). It’ll be interesting to see how we’ll adapt our packing style for winter travel.
I always have a habit of overpacking but my partner has the opposite habit, maybe packing too little at times. Thus, we kind of cancel out as she can sometimes use some of the stuff I brought over. But am trying to reduce the load so that I can travel lighter. Thanks for sharing. :) Enjoy your trip and looking forward to your 100k subs soon! :D
Impressive! I packed for a 2 week trip to Europe in one of those carry-ons and felt so free and light compared to the others on the trip with multiple large suitcases. Won't go back to anything larger than one carry-on. Two pair of shoes is a must for me to keep my feet happy while walking for miles each day.
Been a single carry-on guy for last 5 years and it has worked out great. My packing pattern is quiet similar to yours. Before packing, I lay them out on the bed/floor for easy overview of what's going into my bag. One tip I would share is packing merino wool clothes. They are lighter, don't smell, require fewer wash cycle and perfect for hot/sunny destination.
Laundry on vacation is such a game-changer for me!! I always make it a point to wash everything that I possibly can so that when I return from my travels, it's one less thing I have to take care of. I love being able to just put my clothing away right when I get home! So good to see that others enjoy the w/d amenity as much as I do 😁
It’s usually a good idea to wash everything when you get home just in case your stuff happened to pick up any unwanted hitchhikers during your travels so you don’t take a chance on bringing them into your home.
Doing laundry on holiday can work, but not on every trip. When I was in the UK for Christmas, we were staying with my mother-in-law and could wash things when necessary over the 10 day trip. The same was true for a part of our two week trip to France last summer. However, I'm currently travelling home from a trip to Greece, where we didn't have access to laundry facilities and the temperature range between where we live and our main destination was from -15 degrees C to almost 20 degrees C 😂 I wore one pair of winter shoes and packed two different pairs for Athens, in case my feet needed some variety (as they occasionally do).
I do want to add that how you pack might not always be a choice, and being able to travel light (and without check-in luggage) is definitely a luxury :)
“Ol’ boring” 😆 The personal packing list is genius. We did laundry our last trip and it was awesome. Oh my gosh yes I totally relate to thinking I'd be a different person on vacation 😂
This video came at the right time. I have a trip to Japan coming up. I always brought a check-in suitcase, but I think I can do with less gear and fit it in a carry on. Safe travels to you both 😀
I have similar packing style as yours. With 2 teenagers and 2 adults, I was able to pack all our stuff in one large and one small luggage for a 3 weeks vacation. Besides clothes, we were also able to fit a small bag of medications and a couple pairs of shoes (slippers and dress shoes...besides the sneakers we wear on board) for each person. And there was still enough room for us to bring lots of goodies back from our trip! I love being able to travel light cause it feels so relaxing not having to care for so many bags/luggage.
I usually pack 2 shirts and 1 pants for every 3 days, if it is cold I'll pack thermal shirt instead (if it is 7 days, it counts as 3x 3 days, so I pack 3x) and don't worry, won't be wearing the same underwear/socks, always 3 pairs with a small bottle to clean them in a sink a single wireless charger for both my Airpods Pro and iPhone which uses a 65w brick and 3meter magnetic anti-tangle USB-C cable, also powering my laptop then just a facial cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen been just going with a 20L backpack whenever I go anywhere wearing the coat/jacket that I'll need and a thin raincoat that can be folded extremely thin and flat incase it rains
If I’m not bringing Indonesian ingredients as I promised my colleague in Finland (it’s quite hard to come by), I’d fit enough items to support me for 6 weeks this winter in a carry on! I try to always practice the 5-4-3-2-1 rule when it comes to clothes: 5 pairs of socks & underwear, 4 tops, 3 bottoms, 2 shoes & 1 long down-filled coat. Pyjama shirt & pants are included in the 4-3 count. For winter trip like this, I like to have 3 pairs of thermal base layer, 1 light down jacket & some warm/waterproof accessories like mittens & wool scarf 😊
I went to Japan recently on my honeymoon for four weeks and we decided to backpack. There were things that went great and things I regretted with the way I packed. I regretted bringing more than one pajama set. I regretted bringing my iPad and Kindle. I regretted bringing flip flops. I regretted bringing hair accessories and more than two perfumes. I regretted bringing my rain jacket. And I regretted bringing too many jeans because they are heavy and take too long to dry. And lastly I regretted bringing games like a deck of cards and other travel games. Things I did right were bringing one pair of white leather Vans sneakers for all my city walking, bringing one long down jacket for the cold weather, one hat and one pair of gloves, one neck gaiter, bringing wool socks, and one pair of sunglasses. I ended up needing to buy one thermal layer and one scarf in Japan for extra warmth when we encountered an unexpected blizzard. But those were easy to find. And an umbrella. But that was easy too.
@@JBUHJBUH yes, it's because in almost every hotel I went to in Japan, they had disposable slippers and reusable ones in the hotel rooms for our convenience. Therefore I didn't need to pack my own pair of flip flops and I could have saved space in my backpack.
I actually have less clothes in my closet compared to most women. I can definitely pull this off. I would personally pack about 4-7 shirts, 1-2 denim shorts, swim clothes, 2 sets of thin pajamas, 1 dress (as appropriate to the season), 1 extra pants, my thin jacket with hoodie, flats and then sandals. I wear the bulkier stuff like any thin but warm jacket/cardigan, long sleeve shirt, sneakers and jeans as my go to airport outfit for both arrival and departure dates. That means I have two days where I wear the exact same outfit. My skin care, make up and hygiene stuff isn’t a lot either. I like to leave my personal bag mostly empty except for airport essentials and for extra stuff I might buy in vacation.
Sounds similar to my strategies except wearing jeans for long hours of sitting sounds like torture to me haha 😀 it might be doable for short-haul flights though
what do you do about liquid items? i guess i could "go without" my skin care routine for the days i'm on vacation... but the clothing seems like an easy thing to scale down. it's the "products" that make me feel i have to check a bag, and if i'm checking a bag because of that, then i might as well fill up the suitcase... HELP!
I have a very basic skincare routine and I don’t put on make-up, so I don’t actually have many liquid items with me during travels. Paring down isn't easy, maybe you can start by bringing what you want while resisting the urge to fill up the suitcase 😃 Hope you'll find a happy middle ground for your travels! :)
Switching to stick- & cream-based makeup, plus decanting my skincare into smaller tubs (based on the length of the trip), have been true game changers for me!
Oh, it's easy for me. USA 7 Days only 2 Carry On - 1 Backpack, 1 Sports Duffel Bag (not even the huge type). Not even 1 1/2 full. Because no need excessive clothes. Books are downloaded - free. Games are downloaded - free. All compressed into 1 phone or 2.
Reducing your carbon footprint by taking fewer flights should be an aim too, imo. I’m about to take my first air trip since Australia in 2008. If you have calculated your footprint you’ll know that a single long haul flight will wreck any target you might have had! Living with a person who doesn’t lead this lifestyle I have found my greatest challenge.

The one bag even in long Summer vacation we wash on our way
5 I’m in the middle. I always bring things I don’t end up wearing - like a “just in case” nice outfit or sundress. Great video.

Won't go back to anything larger than one carry-on. Two pair of shoes is a must for me to keep my feet happy while walking for miles each day.
Think it's also important for foot health - so each pair of shoes gets to air out before its next day of use.
Edit: also for shoe longevity!

Have always heard good things about Merino wool, will try them out when we get the chance. Thanks for sharing :)
Investing in those now! They can be expensive, so collecting over time makes sense

Yup it always depends on the situation! Hope you enjoyed your trip :)
What I love is bringing a lunch box in to carry food for the journey 😊
I do want to add that how you pack might not always be a choice, and being able to travel light (and without check-in luggage) is definitely a luxury :)
Definitely :)
I would say the opposite is true. There are almost certainly more people who can’t afford to check a bag if it’s not included in their ticket price.
@@lvs6775 That's also true of course!

genius video, I think I’m a 6 or 7. I definitely want to be more streamlined in my packing and your tips are going to be helpful on our next trip!
Glad you found it helpful! 🙌
Happy Tuesday😀n as usual This is Gonna b so Informative🔥🔥🔥👍….
Thanks!
I promise you this is good advice, especially the laundry tip. I made the mistake of learning the hard way.

Very helpful suggestions. What carry-on suitcase are you using in the video?
It's a Samsonite suitcase we borrowed from a family member :)

Interesting, may I ask why you regretted bringing the flipflops? I always pack a pair for bathroom &/ or indoor usage when travelling.

Great video! To the woman, where are you jeans and basic t-shirts from? I like them and want to shape my wardrobe in this classic, simple style.
Thanks! The ones in this video are from either Uniqlo or Muji :)
Hi. What is the wheeled carry on suitcase you are using? Can you please post a link. Thank you.
We actually borrowed this particular Samsonite suitcase from a family member for this trip. Unfortunately, we're not exactly sure about the details :)
This is very informative, I always overpack because of worry that the place I go to will not have certain things that I need.
That's perfectly normal :) sometimes there's no harm in being well prepared!
What about toiletries? What are your skincare routines (:
It's quite straightforward and basic, just facial wash, moisturizer and sunscreen :)
where can we obtain those packing cubes? Also, can I know where the suitcase is from? Thank you!
The packing cubes are from Decathlon, and the suitcase (actually borrowed from a family member) is from Samsonite :)

books on the beach < street food 😂

Those are from Decathlon :)
i use a heck of a lot of skincare and devices, so that would take up 60-70% of my regular suitcase 😢
i love watching videos like these, though

There are people also travelling without baggage at all (credit card, smartphone, passport).

Use high quality packing cubes. Thule is the best IMO

How big is your luggage size? Doing laundry overseas with a shared washer takes forever. 😅
Not sure exactly, but it's listed on their website as 'small' :)
