...I know Jello plays all his characters with a little bit of dorkiness, but I'm not gonna lie, Vyse's entrance and first jump over to the Admiral ship is SO COOL! He's such a cool dude I love it!
Okay but even as a bit, the Vyrsa lines that Jello and everyone added in strike such a perfect 'unaware transfeminine' chord. Like the ambient "wow, women are so cool" dysphoria that you rationalise early on either as some kind of compassionate feminism, budding sexuality, or sometimes worry is borne out of perversion - because you can clearly pick up that the feeling is different than the sentiments being developed by your male "peers", but can't gage on *why* (and in some cases have the answers be deliberately hidden from you). When I was ~15 I had to choose a topic for an English class presentation, and I chose 'Women in History' literally because of that weird nebulous "fascination" I couldn't put a finger to but desperately didn't want to let die, so I talked about a cool 17th-century bisexual French fencer/opera singer, the Haudenosaunee government, and (funnily enough) an obscure Chinese pirate queen. I have quite literally used the phrase "women are so cool, I wish I was one" as a post-humous analysis of younger me when talking to friends! Also the end and all the fanart I've seen is adorable. Thank you for the streams, dearly.

Been watching the backlog of VODs of the Jello extended friend group , as I've only found their corner of TH-cam recently and it is so weird watching more recent streams and to hear folks talking about modern games, I'm so used to the "recent" game news being out 3-4 years of date that the discussion of BG3 shocked me.

I noticed in that first fight the man with swords swung them and fired a swordslash rather then run up and attack. The woman with boomerang ran up and beat a man with it.
I got this game by accident, I bought a gamecube second hand and it was in the disc tray when i opened it. 10/10
The fact this happened right after I started Valkyria Chronicles 1 with friends is great. (Vyse and Aika are playable units)
I loved when Vyse said "It's smoving time" and Smoved all over everyone.
This is easily my favorite game of all time. I just love it. The graphics hold up pretty well for how old it is, and so does the gameplay. I really wouldn't mind a remaster or remake of this particular franchise.

This game might get a remaster someday. I never thought Grandia II (in my top 5 game of all time) would ever come to the Switch, yet that dream came true.
While I love the comedic effect of having dead enemies just "peace out" my favorite death animation will always be the original Valkyria Chronicles' instant onset riger mortis (enemies just go stiff and fall over)
Favorite game from my childhood, glad so many people love it too.

Will's voice for Drachma is very Cid adjacent, is great, and fits the character in my opinion.
I only got to play the opening up until Antonio as a small kid. My copy for the GameCube got stolen and I wish I had it still!!! I so desperately want to play again!

My problem with Toriyama's human designs are mostly that they're very "samey", like everyone's got the same few face templates. Also, you get stuff like Chrono who is a child but has the face of a grown man.

I have to wonder now that it's over that if back when Will was showing off Phantom Dust way back when and he did the savestates thing so it cut to the more important and plotty parts of the game, skipping some of the battles, that Jello would've come away with a better impression of the game.
I kind of want to see Phantom Dust get a second chance now that savestate skipping is on the table.

I have both, the DC and GC version of the game and played both. After youtube reccomended this game to me about a dozen times for the last week, I decided to dust off my GC and start a replay. Currently grinding away in the Valuan sewers for Ivy Bands and Morning Star because... reasons. Drop rate is really low.

I wanted to ask you this for a long time, but could never find the right moment.
Ok, while I am one of the people who really liked Ni No Kuni, the game definitely has its flaws. It's charming and an interesting take, don't get me wrong, but it has some major issues gameplay wise. The combat system is definitely clunky and a bit one dimensional, the mon collection aspect is time consuming and frustrating, and the dungeons are just kind of there most of the time. Where Ni No Kuni really shines is the characters, the story, and the art, so if you can't get into a game really just for the characters and the story, then I could see how you could think Ni No Kuni:Wrath of the White Witch is trash. It's why if someone brings up Ni No Kuni, I point them to Revenant Kingdom first, especially if they're a gameplay person, I might consider pointing them to the first game if they're a story person. As much as I loved Ni No Kuni: WotWW, it is an inherently flawed game, no matter how interesting I myself find it.
Honestly, if you gave the game the Revenant Kingdom's combat system + familiars and made familiars slightly easier to catch, you'd fix the game's biggest issues and actually make me willing to recommend it to the average Joe. As it is, I need to know someone's preferences before I even consider recommending the game. I kind of wish Revenant Kingdom still had the familiar system, but I understand why they did away with it. I still loved it, but it was probably people's biggest complaint about the first game.

This poor game. It's only a cult classic because it was FORCED to be one. If it had come out on the PS1 instead of the Dreamcast (or at least been re-released on the PS2 instead of the Gamecube), it would be a well-known classic and probably gotten multiple sequels.

Jello hates the ship battles? ...All the respect and goodwill I had from watching the highlights compilation video is now lost. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. (Though, yeah, it is unfortunate you can't skip repeated animations. And the puzzles presented are on a fixed pattern, so not the best for repeat playthroughs. But they're so cool, and the tactics are satisfying.)
In a plea for penance, I'll make a voice-acted playthrough request that will almost certainly not be taken... Skies of Arcadia is my favorite (underappreciated, but still technically-) mainstream video game of all time, while my most fond indie video game I've ever played or seen was the metroidvania-lite hidden gem: Iji (spelled eye jay eye, damn you sanserif fonts), made by Daniel Remar. It's right up there with Cave Story for being one of the pioneering freeware story driven classics. It focused on data-log world-building before even the Metroid series itself was leaning into it, and took a page from the likes of Metal Gear for making a no-kill pacifist run a totally different experience from going through the game trigger happy. And doing so has a pretty big impact on the plot. And lots of fun secrets besides that (one of the minor ones is that you can choose to intentional make the final boss much harder before reaching it). While the implications aren't as extreme, it's kinda like if you could play through Undertale but in 2008 and with a protagonist that actually has dialogue. While technically superior games have come and gone since, Iji is still super neat to this very day.
Skies of Arcadia is my more favorite of the two, though.

I am playing through Valkyrie Chronicles and finding out that some random units are the main protags in completely different game is something. It's like finding out that your friends have some kind of secret life's that they never bring up
The funny thing is that Vyse and Aika are actually really, really good in Valkyria Chronicles. Vyse has high base accuracy, good defense, and gets an attack boost when he's under fire and a defense boost when other squadmates are nearby (something you fully expect to happen to a Shocktrooper)
Aika's base stats are less impressive as a scout, but her potentials are also great. An attack boost when with friends, and a defense boost when her AP is below half (again, as a scout she's expected to run far distances at all times)

Wait the Loqua thing is actually such a smart move, Loquat is a real fruit and is honestly yummy it’s like tangy and sweet at the same time and they’re small but very juicy. They’re also called “Japanese plums”, and i can absolutely believe that people can distill the juice as a base for this drink.

I do believe that Loquat Liquor is an actual thing people have made as well. They didn't so much remove alcohol from the game as they did the localisation equivalent of people serving alcohol in tea kettles and cups in the Prohibition era. It's really smart, super inconspicuous to anyone not in the know and super obvious to anyone who is.

Man, I needed the Jello tutorial for this game before I played it. I got through a good chunk and never knew about the hidden discoveries or that you could catch fish :(
I'd argue that Lambda Burst is Aika's best move, because by the time I usually get it, the party has 8 spirit at the start of every round (usually around Ixa Taka), so unless you're dealing with loopers you can nuke horde enemies and destroy most adds when there's the random tankier enemies, then the next turn you either do it again if there's a bunch of enemies that're still holding on, or Cutlass Fury if there's only one sturdy asshole surviving the initial attack

Extremely late to the party but regarding Valua's pronunciation. If it's meant to be a Spain analog then it should be pronounced /'ba.lwa/
/ba.'lu.a/ feels more natural to me but then it would be spelled Valúa
I am so unbelievably happy to see this here. SoA was one of the things on the Dreamcast that I spent the most time on, and I'm just so happy to see other people enjoying it and voicing it. I really look forwards to the latter half of the game, once the first half has fully set up most of the major characters and plot events.
Also, the return of Fina, because the main trio is just so good together.
