Looks like a really great mine. Love all the mineralization, you can't beat good azurite and malachite. Hopefully the samples show some color. Great video. Good points on bringing a O2 meter underground too.

As I understand it CO, CO2, methane, and Hydrogen sulfide are all naturally occurring in the rocks (or released from the rocks reacting with air) and can fill any mine over time. In old mine rescues, they typically find people nearish the mine entrance and not deep in the mine as by the time they started feeling sick from breathing bad air in the mine and headed out it was already too late for them.

Rotting wood will also produce CO. It didn’t look like the timbers were rotten though. Regardless of what caused it I think if there was a little ventilation in that side drift it would be ok.

Maybe they were chasing gold and they didn't find much with the copper, or the overall grade was too low to keep going. I've heard stories about mines where they chased the wrong vane, left the gold, and went bankrupt from hauling out waste rocks and low grade ore.

The copper that I found was always near the contact zone or edge of the vein. I’m guessing they were mining more than one mineral. I’ll have to send samples to lab to test for other things besides gold.
