    If my math is correct, you are burning around 3.8 gallons of fuel for every mile traveled. If that is true, I would have your engines inspected. Additionally, I noticed you were refueling which underway. I would have been concerned about contamination in the fuel tank given the water spray. The last point I wanted to make regarding your fuel burn. It appears you spent over $3K to make that crossing. That is a lot of dough to spend on such a short trip. Despite all of that, I was happy you all created the video. All of you appeared relaxed and happy, in the end,this is what life should be like for everyone.

    From what I have briefly checked, the SR 55 has 700 gallon tank. At .3 mpg, that is 210 miles, plenty far for 170 mile trip (as it seems to me). Did you get less than .3 mpg? It did look like you were going way over 20 knots for some of the trip, did you cruise at an unusually high speed which reduced your range? I hope my questions about weight, speed and fuel efficiency make sense. Thanks.

      I just came here to comment. They hauled ass from the looks of it.
      I think that figure you gave is probably at its most efficient cruise speed.

      They were going too fast. About 10 years ago I crewed on a Fleming 55 and we crossed the GOM at 1.3 mile per gallon. Whe were going about 9 miles per hour or 200 miles per day. 1,200 miles in under 6 days from Corpus Christi to Miami. We had enough fuel left to make it a round trip if we had wanted to.

    I did that same trip last year in my sailboat last year solo. First time even offshore. Only used 25 gallons of diesel.

    3.8 gallons a mile???? I would burn that boat to the water line and let the fish have the rest.

    Thanks for sharing your journey! We are a bit flummoxed concerning fuel consumption, if we understood correctly this was under 200 miles, how much fuel do you consume per mile, and what is the built in fuel capacity? Thanks again David

    What system did you use to fuel enroute? Where drums plumbed to the engine or fuel tanks?

  • @mawhayden
    @mawhayden 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You stated Gas not diesel in those drums. I then can assume that your boat is Gas and not a diesel engine,, is that correct ?

    I guess this is what happens when you have a lot more money than time. I would have slowed way down. And spent much less on fuel.
