I am not a dairy farmer (former beef farmer) but what I do know based on what dairy farmers in my area have mentioned to me (NB Canada) that have vertical silo's, is that there is no
better way to store feed of any description! Little to know spoilage! Ex. Pits, bunkers, ag bags, piles, ( "wrapped "plastic" which in my mind is a curse to environment and a complete waste!!) are not such a good choice from my point of view! It's alot of work (vertical silo's) but, well worth it in my mind. I've been following kip and his family for quite sometime, they know what they are doing!! They are very good recyclers, auctions, older equipment that does the job!!! This is a great program in my mind helping to educate those who don't how food is made aaannndd about farming general. Farming is like the game of football, "feet and inches" not leaps and bounds, steady as it goes, one step at a time!!

Going up the outside of the silo is so much better than the inside, and you are always rewarded with the prettiest scenery on the farm.

We learned to use graphite "slip plate" paint liberally when we finished filling silo's in the fall. It saves you from first day sticks where the sileage clings to the rust that developed over the winter. Just makes everything so much easier when you go to using it again.

Kip, as a kid in the 60’s and on a dairy farm I share your frustration with blowing silage. Our best blower tractor was the JD 2010 with a gas engine. We had a diesel 3020 but the governor just wasn’t fast enough to keep up running the blower. It’s fun watching you work. 😀

Thanks for another great video Kip.
Really was enjoyable and super interesting with the silage operation.
Wow. Lots going on this time of year and getting the silage operation going. Back in the day used to help a neighbor with silage and is not easy work.
Takes a while to get everything set up and tuned up and working good. You seem right on top of it. Keep the blowers blowing!!!!!!
I have a lot of respect for you Kip. You have a lot of things to look after plus the twice a day milking. Lot to do and look after. Hang in there.
Love haying and silage time. Lot of pieces to fit into the circle to make it work. You have a good teamwork bunch and everyone pitches in.
All for now. You all take care and be safe.
Looking forward to the next video.
    Thanks for everything Kip.
    The Iowa farm boy.

I remember when we milked cows,my late grandpa always ran the chopper and my dad retired the john deere 4320 from the chopper and bought a 7800 and my grandpa says well we have to take the back window out and dad told him well I bought this so you have air conditioning and radio why do you want the back window out, grandpa says so I can hear the chopper so I know how fast to go lol oh boy the memories but we didn't mess around with silos we had 3 20×80 harvesters
