Cerulean is traditionally made out of a colbalt pigment, which means it's made of a toxic metal that can contaminate waterways. Denise's palette was made not only vegan, but also free of paints made of potentially toxic metals like the colbalts and cadmiums, hence why she went with a Cerulean Hue over true Cerulean.
Oh and I'm so glad you did this! Every time someone buys Denise's palette or any Da Vinci paint really, I get pretty happy since it's a pretty underrepresented watercolor brand. I also love that their paints don't contain oxgall.
Thanks for all the useful information! I was glad they didn't include a true cerulean but I kind of wish it was given a different name. Personally I don't think it's adequate as a trade. I do love the actual color though it's beautiful 😍. Honestly I don't consider cerulean as a necessary addition to a basic palette so it's no loss to me.
I'm definitely intrigued by these paints. They are very unique so I'm having fun playing with them. So far I definitely recommend as a great option for any watercolorist.
It's really cool seeing paints with more sustainable packaging, shame about the random pencil case though. Also the pan pouring is quite relaxing, it's satisfying watching you fill each pan. (Also your cat is cute 😊)
It’s definitely relaxing seeing you pour paint, not boring! 😊 Do these paints fully dry down in the pans?
Thanks! It took a really long time for them to dry (and a couole of them are dry to the touch but I can still squish them a bit).
Have fun with your new earth friendly paints!

I'm thinking I might do a giveaway with a custom palette and some art prints with the pencil case. IDK yet. I'm glad you like the paint pouring.
