hi from uk . am wondering if this is a scam , got a new Lenovo tower pc after 2 months got the error flagged up on self diagnostics ,, so the shop swapped it for hp tower under guarantee .. same problem after a Cpl of months ,.so the hp has 6 months cover left and that going back .oh I spoke with Lenovo techs team they said don't worry the hard drive is fine its the self test that's at fault..
I don't understand why this happened. I've had my computer for about 2 years and I didn't do anything to it for the hard drive to fail. 🤦🏾

yes it would work if your able to use that and reinstall your windows you might see your old hard drive and u will be able to take everything off of it and put it on the external but when u put in the external change the boot option from your main hdd and change it to the external hdd

Have been very disappointed with this computer. Multiple lockups and resets, then that screen........Bought a new hard drive to try to replace the dead one. Very spendy for my budget, expected way more.... a least comparable to my others that lasted longer with none of these issues and were less expensive.
All i did was punch my computer...

There is nothing wrong with your hard drive I start getting problem every time windows update happens. Its something to do with them forcing you to buy new and more powerful update window. They also get more errors on third-party companies that used windows made by Microsoft like hp. Put their software as well. Which they do update for all. But hp software does cause issues. It advises to just use pure Windows Microsoft.
How long have you gone with this problem without changing the hard drive?

thank fully it happned to me too, and i overcame it, it was that my harddrive and the wire connecting it got too much dust inbetwwn, it couldnt reach the hdd( internally) so i opend up my hp bs0xx model laptop by watching in yt and got it cleaned at home by myself, if it still dosent works your hdd is really dead change it and if u are lucky RAM( the laptop itself not ram) must hvae stores some amount of data u may hve it, i purchsed my hdd @ around 1500 rupees which is IDK how many dollars.

Or: you just Enter through twice and get into your comp to save what you can. So Enter through the initial notification, onto the Windows alert that it was aborted abruptly. But: my experience is that you will only be able to make a backup up to 80-85%. So my advice is to manually get what you can.

harddrives are very cheap today you can get a 500gb for 50 bucks off of ebay or even cheaper

Help me i have been in a constant loop of hard disk not detected, smart disk error and no boot system detected..
My HP laptop has been upgraded three months ago with an SSD from my old HDD and it showed great performance ... but then this happened for about 1 week already.. pls help me i also visited numerous youtube tutorials and none really resolve my issues,
I also opened the hardware of my laptop and checked the placement of my ssd, unplugged and plugged the connections but still same error ocuured .... I dont know what to do now, there are no repair services due loockdown and our deadlines are approaching huhhu...

It is not working in win8. Boot option is different in my notebook. Only os boot manager and boot from Efi file are seen.

People jeep asking this same simple question. And this idiot keep answering back with stupid shit that doesn't answer a thing.
Do you know a way to prevent the s.m.a.r.t error message from popping up? I ran many chkdsk and performed hard drive test from third party softwares and it showed no problem whatsoever, yet the error 301 message keeps popping up everytime I turn the laptop on. It's so annoying!

You can still get your data off of it buy using a sata cable to sub laptop harddrive you can find those on eBay for cheap

I ordered a new HP Envy laptop 4 years ago, and when I turned it on for the first time, this 301 "imminent hard drive failure" message appeared on the screen. I was really shocked ...the computer was brand new!!! But I was in a frustrating situation ... My older Envy laptop was suddenly unuseable due to a nasty ransomeware attack, and I was stuck in a cheap way-out-of-state hotel for several weeks. I had no alternative but to follow the directions (the hard disc tests showed no problems), cross my fingers, and start using the new computer anyway. That was 4 years ago and I've never had any problem with the hard drive (although this error message comes up EVERY TIME I boot up the computer.) I've been looking for a fix for years, but have been unable to find anything helpful. If anyone has figured this out, please let me know! Thanks!

Have recently fried my HP ultrabook HDD, luckily I had an old acre which I don't use anymore, have taken the HDD from the Acer and install into my HP but HP won't start normally, just keep tellin me to go into repair mode have let it go on repair mode but a window pop up saying computer could not perform automatic repair. I’m going to try this tomorrow and if this works then imma thank you a lot because my HP laptop crashed on Monday in the middle of a fortnite match right. Plus the game was freezing so badly and starting moving again until it froze and my character didn’t move for about one minute. Then all of a sudden a blue screen of death popped up. and now it’s done fixing the C: drive. But the only problem is that it’s saying on my HP computer is: “ Hard Disk Error” so I’ll try your method tomorrow morning!

Hi, my HP laptop doesn't have the esc function on boot. Why's that, but it has the same start up as you. 4 months laptop and hard disk failure? Is HP serious about its quality goods? No, there wasn't any physical damage onto the laptop.

Why don’t you want to start the backup process normally?
I got mine to work (Windows 8.1). Just drain the battery by leaving the laptop on or by charging a phone using a usb cable. Then keep pressing the power button for a while. Connect the charger and Turn on the power. Ta da!! It may boot up normal. But don't get excited it will show the same error if you restart but you can use it forever if you keep it on. Make a backup with an external hdd before restarting or turning the laptop off. I haven't found a permanent fix yet. I'm not sure it will work for any of you or not but worth giving a try.

I had this error for a few months too long. My Hp envy's fan was also broken, and this morning we forgot to turn the table fan on so it got hot shut down to prevent overheating as it does, and that was the last time it booted. That last overheat finally killed it. Warranty expired = Ugh.

But there is a way we're you can retrieve your data from your damage hard drive all you will need is a sata to usb laptop harddrive cable on eBay it very cheap and also the harddrives if I find a another way to fix this I'll let yall know ASAP
