  • You hear it all the time in car ads and reviews: 'dual-zone climate control'. But have you ever stopped to think about whether it actually makes any difference to your car's air conditioning?
    We sent Richard Berry and Matthew Pritchard, our resident science* duo to find out.
    *Note: Not actual scientists, just two guys in sweet lab coats.

    A 7 degree difference is pretty good and in a stationary car so the air con can’t be as effective. Yes your not going to get the maximum extremes at either end at the same time but I would imagine e if someone is on the sunny side of the car a degree or two cooler could be nice

    They just demonstrated their thermometers are utter garbage, even displayed over 1 degree Celsius difference... Also AC works best when the car is in motion, and finally, YES the Climate Control DOES vary from car to car and from brand to brand... extreme poor execution, borderline cringe...

    My wife and I would both be happier in the car if she had 29C and I 21C hitting us. So even though it mixes she wouldn’t be freezing and I wouldn’t be sweating

    • @jorislal
      @jorislal 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mind that to get that difference the AC had to work full power all the time and used considerably more fuel than just keeping the car at 24C.

    Climate control only allows for a 4° variance, read the handbook 😀

      Wrong. It is reccomended to set temperature higher or lower by 4 degrees according to outside weather.

    I think, it does work. But the temp will not always same with the settings,thats normal,for example i mean if you set AC in bedroom 16 deg celcius (remote) ,the real temperature will not exactly same with remote ,maybe around 19-20deg Celcius

    As far as I’m concerned it works. I have cool air blow on me as I’m always warm and whoever sits nexts to me can have warm/room temp air. Compared to single zone where it’s always gonna be too hot or too cold for at least one person.

    6 degrees difference between 2 seats. Thats quite effective.
    And 16 degrees is ridiculously low.
    Try 22 and 26 and then set everything to auto.
    Thats the more practical scenario

    Some cars you need to move for AC to get cooler

      The AC does blow colder when the car is going, it still blows decent cool stopped but not as much

    My car has dual zone. I just find it annoying. I want one knob to set the temperature, and basically it just means I have to set two dials. A complication I don't need.

    • @fahadnadir2403

      There's a sync button u press once and it keep both temperature same. Even if i turn car off and back on. In my honda accord

    • @User-cb4jm

      @@fahadnadir2403 Exactly. Sync it (or in some cars, turn off “dual”) and it will only go based on the drivers dial.

  • @jorislal
    @jorislal 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, dual climate control can make a few degrees of difference but:
    1) It will use more fuel than just splitting a difference since it has to work against each other (air mixes and has to be cooled/heated again)
    2) Has anyone ever even had a need to use it at all?

    Brilliant idea,thought dual-zone means the front and the back seats? You guys should compare two cars,one with back seats air-con and one without to see how much difference it makes.

    • @brosk1s883

      nsxz dual zone is left and right, there is quad zone which adds that into the rear row though

    • @Ckcdillpickle
      @Ckcdillpickle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brosk1s883 Most dual zones are front and back now, or tri-zone. quad zone is pretty rare.. Dual zone back in the day use to be the front only which was a dumb idea
