As a DDK, I had NO trouble following along, other than the trick-play upper corner thing in the first game (so thanks for reviewing that for us!). Totally basics-friendly. Some people just can't help poking their own eye out at dinner if you give them a full set of silverware to play with.
@@sonipitts I would love to play a game with you sometime if you’re down. I’m a SDK but I’ve been getting worse (haven’t played recently these years) and tired of thinking too much against stronger players. No need to feel embarrassed about double digits or anything xD
A double header, exciting!!! By the way, I think you killed, counterintuitively because you were NOT trying to kill. You made just about every solid choice possible throughout the early game, instead of getting aggressive and making weaknesses. Several times you said "We could play this aggressive option and go after him here, but we'll just chill. Look at our shape!!!" Then LATER he died. But you just kept strong, and he did that all by himself. You should still get checked out though.
It's been a few months since I last watched one of your vids. Have there been any announcements about your book? Or drafts released or anything? (Edited my comment because I watched a few more minutes and my original question looked pretty dumb.)
12:58 I’m not very good, still at kyu level, but watching this I think it totally is your fault. You didn’t prevent the cut, you allowed it. To me it seemed like the obvious move and exactly the type of move that I worry about in my games because then it turns into a big fight. For murder sure ignore it, but maybe for basics prevent cuts like that in future to avoid all this complication that lead to everything dying. Personally I find it a more valuable learning experience when you force yourself to play simple at all costs, no reading, even if it means playing suboptimal moves and letting them get away with some things.
@@dwyrin I don't know, I kinda think you need to reflect on what's been going on in the basics series. I say this as a huge fan- I watch every one of your videos and you were one of my earliest and favorite teachers. But you honestly haven't had an *actual* basics video for a really long time. Somehow every game you end up killing the opponent in some giant fight, and then you work to justify it. The point of basics was originally for players who *aren't* able to read out 7dan-level fighting sequences to be able to use basic heuristics to win games where opponents are overplaying. Yes, some of your viewers have fun watching you crush lower rated players, but do you really believe it's as valuable of a *teaching tool* as your old style of video? Sorry to be critical, but I miss the days when your basics videos were more disciplined and you refused to let your bloodlust keep you from demonstrating truly basic play against lower-rated players that you're sandbagging against :/
@@joristaglio Not @dwyrin's fault. The AI wants you to fight everything. So all the new players fight everything. They realize they're behind, and start cutting like they're trying out to be the next Hugh Jackman. Which is what the AI teaches you to do. When you are behind, cut! That cut at 12:58 was not reasonable. No normal 5d 10 years ago would have played it. But once it's played, there's a fight. No avoiding it. Modern basics isn't about avoiding fights like it used to be. Modern basics is about making *them* take a *bad* fight.
@9:37 I'm confused. WTH is b thinking playing R11? I mean. I expect that of a kyu player, maybe even a 1d -- if you can't kill w there, might as well semi-attach because you aren't strengthening a "weak" stone but surely a 5d knows you leave open the option that the stone might become weak later. After b played that, all possibility of w ever being in trouble there evaporates. That b move is so bad, you should be able to appeal to the admins and get their 5d card taken away instantly.
I think i disregarded it cause i didnt want the ladder since hes now building up the bottom. ladder would give him more free moves to do so, i thought in the form of a ladder breaker? Was hoping to just sorta push him down a bit while building or get in a deeper invasion. whichever is offered up
idk why people are so aggressive with their need to tell everyone they’re playing the harry potter game. maybe you don’t mean it this way, but it feels like a pointed statement that you don’t care about trans people
Ahh yes, people are “aggressively” playing Harry Potter I got chased into an alleyway by a bunch of hoodlums who kept laughing and shouting at me about their love for Harry Potter You’re paranoid
hmmm. now i havent played through the whole thing yet, but it doesnt feel like a game against trans people. in fact one of my friends is trans and cant wait to play it.
This was some of the best basic games. Had no problem following along at all and things just made sense. Thank you for this.

Had to look up DDK, double digit kyuu, correct? Very cool abbreviation.
@@phen-themoogle7651 Yes. DDK sounds way cooler than the utter idiot newbie I really am. 🤣

always love stab facey basics, very fun episode
haha i love your sour humor. thanks for the videos! keep them coming!
You're making a book! I'm excited for it to come out now!
Looking forward to the book! 😄
White means busyness with that three star fusexy
1:33 Jesus this is a game I played in the BC ranks on iGS
W to play san ren sai was a rare sight if I may say so. Has it ever been a thing in the pro world?
It wasn't you. Your opponents insisted on fighting, you had to defend yourself, and a good offense is the best defense!

I could relate to the players that he killed though, I tend to defeat myself by doing similar bad habits too haha
He makes Go look soooo simple.
Murder Monday came early. Cool 😎 😂

When is the book coming out?

normally i would agree. however letting your opponent run you into their own territory is an excellent tactic players should be aware of

@dwyrin, it is not your fault in my honest opinion. because Go is a two player game and when they decide to commit sudoku then well they do.
