I mean about more than half of romantic couples either break up with each other or divorce each other, while most platonic best friends remain friends until death. I think that having a platonic best friend is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse is. Having someone who's like a sibling to you is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse. Also, you are more likely to be much more closer to someone who's like a brother or sister to you than you would be with a romantic partner or spouse. People tend to fight with their partner or spouse a lot more than they do with a platonic best friend, and you never fight with your best friend the way you fight with your partner or spouse. Partners and spouses are just temporary. If you break up or divorce them, it's hard to go back to them. With your platonic best friend, you're going to make things work, because they are your best friend, they are your go to partner. It's always easier to make amends with them than it is with a romantic partner or spouse.

However, there are a lot of things that romantic partners can give, and when done in a godly way, romantic love can be something truly special. A romantic partner can, of course, give you romantic love; something that a friend cannot. The world will always need romantic couples to “be fruitful and increase in number” (Genesis 9:7). The act of intimacy (between a married couple) is a God given gift that we can cherish, and having kids is as well. While platonic friends are great and very important, these are some gifts a healthy romantic relationship can be blessed with. The reason a lot of marriages end in heartbreak and divorce is because we haven’t stuck to God’s way of marriage. (This is where we’re gonna get real controversial, but please bear in mind this is my faith based opinion and I mean no disrespect or hate to anyone). God designed marriage for a man and a woman, and He designed the act of intimacy for married couples. Those are the two super controversial topics, but there are other really important things we in the twenty-first century miss as well. Such as, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her…” (Ephesians 5:25). Husbands must love their wives and treat them with respect; a trait that unfortunately is quite lacking nowadays. On the other hand, “Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.” (Ephesians 5:22). God made the man to be the head of the household, so wives must respect their husbands as well. It’s a two way effort to respect one another. To finish off strong here’s 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” This goes for any sort of love, but when applied to a romantic relationship, it can create something healthy and beautiful. When we follow God’s design for marriage, we can see how beautiful romantic love can be. There’s a lot more I could say on this topic but these are some of the key points I wanted to make. Also, I heard that most people can live a life without romance and can still be happy.
