Babba Yagga is a Russian folk figure. She's an old witch who lives in a house in the dark forest. If you see her or her house it's too late. You're dead, you just don't know it yet.
"Dinner reservation for 12" = "I have 12 bodies to dispose of, come pick them up" If somebody is listening on the phone line, nothing out of the ordinary if you don't know "the code".
I mean that's a really cool detail and all but just two seconds before that, they were louder than the Battle of Stalingrad and the cop saw all the carnage. And John was just left. It hasn't spoiled my enjoyment of the film, but I did notice there is a bit of a discrepancy going on there
31:53 About 45 years ago, I wrapped a big foam filled pillow around the barrel and cylinder of a .38 caliber revolver and fired out of curiosity to see how much it would muffle the sound of the gunshot (it was surprisingly quiet), and despite the hot gas escaping from the muzzle and from the cylinder gap, it didn't set the pillow on fire.
Marcus did not kill Perkins because she was on Continental grounds and he followed the rules. Thus the warning shot for John's sake. Great reaction ladies.
Just some facts about the movie: The puppy was next to John because she crawled with all her strength to die by his side Each of those coins have a value of $2000 - $5000 The reason John's friend (Willem Dafoe) accepts and asks " if the contract is exclusive " is to make sure no one harms John When Francis tells John how much weight he lost he is actually telling him how many guards are inside And the dog that John keeps at the end, on the clipboard on his kennel it actually read to be euthanised Really loved the reaction
27:34 That is the look of a doctor who's used to his patients tearing out all the hard work he put into stitching them up. "These young assassins these days, they appreciate when you hand over the pain meds, but do they at least take a look a the nice stitching you did on them? No! They just tear it out like it's so easy to sew up skin! Assassins today!' 😠
I don't think alot of people didn't realize at the end when he was going home with the dog, he walked past the spot where his wife collapsed. Enjoyed your reactions
Yes, Keanu Reeves has become kind of famous for being about as good or better than most career stuntmen. So he does almost everything himself in these movies. The way they include long shots with reloading is one of the really cool things about these movies. The sequels explore the bigger world that's hinted at here, like with Jimmy the policeman knowing what's going on but not bothering him about it. There's kind of a secret hidden world of these assassins that some people know about but most of the public doesn't. And yes, as you guessed, there is a special Continental hotel in most major cities.
The John Wick house is out here on Long Island in a very exclusive town called Mill Neck.. Right at the end of Horseshoe road by the water. -- The runway John practices on is out at Republic Airport, Farmingdale.. --- The fountain where Ms. Perkins gets hers is the Bethesda Prominade in Central Park. (Also called the Bethesda Fountain.)
The Bouncer ("Francis") was WWE Legend Kevin Nash ("Diesel"). "Perkins" (Adrienne Palicki" is Known from the Sci-fi Series "the Orville". Those "Doubloons" were the currency of the Continental and the "Table" it serves under. Each One is worth between $2000 to $5000, and Unique coins are made for the High Council and management.
yeah reeves spent months in pre-production training hard in martial arts and weapons combat. by all accounts, he was a great student without any ego you might associate with a movie star. by the time they started filming, his movements from a jiu-jitsu lock to simply drawing or reloading a gun were very authentic looking. as others have pointed out, there are a bunch of videos showing these BTS training footage
Oh, and also, the scene in the Red Circle...note that John is an extremely effective killer with precision aim and no real wasted movements or actions. So when Iosef goes running behind the glass and John shoots at him and misses four times, what happened there? John missed deliberately. He doesn't just want Iosef dead. He wants him panicked, running for his life, scared for his very soul, and regretting ever having crossed the "fuckin' nobody" that turned out to be the devil incarnate, and only after he's terrified him to his very core and yanked every single semblance of hope from him does he want him dead. He could have killed Iosef at any point he wanted to in the Red Circle, but it wouldn't be as satisfying as letting him escape and living his last few days in sheer terror.
He trained like 400 hours for this role. With crazy gun handling and shooting. He’s borderline competition level shooter And martial arts, including jiujitsu
22:20: Francis, in code, tells John the protection detail(number of men) in the red circle, for the Iosef, Viggo’s son… also side trivia: Francis was played by WWE Hall of Fame wrestling star, the Legendary Kevin Nash😮…also 24:55: I do believe they directed it as John intentionally missing those shot by mere centimeters, to drive Iosef’s fear through the roof, before he eventually kills him.
Down the 🐇 🕳️ we go I mean how could you not finish this franchise. Loved the reaction ladies the rest of the franchise only gets better can’t wait for the next one
Omer Barnea, the actor who had to pretend to kill Daisy, was so traumatized by that reportedly when the director called cut he picked the puppy up and cuddled with it until he calmed down.
The gold coins are a social contract not real currency. It has several different meanings. When he gets to the Red Circle Francis actually says he lost 28 kg, 28 the number of guards. The dog he rescued is actually his dog IRL. When he is walking away in the last scene he is walking past where Helen collapsed. There are a lot of references and nods to The Matrix. The doctor is the Key Master, no more hints so no spoilers but keep looking.
The thing with the cops: They know who John Wick is. They know his past. They know what he used to do, hence the "Uhh...you workin' again?" question. They also know that he's retired, so if anyone's dead in his place, especially some guy in black wearing a mask, they had it coming. They ALSO know that there ain't a damned thing they could do to stop him anyway, so it's best to just keep tabs on him and leave him alone unless he does something that actually forces them to throw their lives away pissing off the Boogeyman.
I watched this a few times before it struck me that there is a bathroom with showers in the Red Circle. I've been to clubs on four continents but never seen one with showers. I am traveling in the wrong circles. 😉
The coins don't have an explicit monetary value. It boils down to basically "1 coin = 1 favor." Their technical value can vary wildly. There is a general consensus of how much of a favor one coin is worth, but it's mostly up to the giver and the taker to sort that out. Bigger favors require more coins, or a different exchange of some kind. Money is still used simply because of the fact that the members of the criminal underworld do still need to buy regular goods and services too. The Continental Hotels are essentially universal safe-houses for members of the criminal underworld. Hence the, "no business on Continental grounds," rule. And it goes both ways. Not only can you not "do business" while you're both in the hotel, you can't kill someone outside the hotel while you're hiding inside it (like a sniper), nor can you sit outside it and kill someone who's inside (like Marcus appeared to be ready to do). That is, in fact, one of the two reasons Marcus didn't shoot Perkins. He'd have broken the rule, and he'd have risked hitting John. There seems to be a self-defense provision of some sort, but other than that, no fighting/killing in the hotel, period. What always strikes me as funny, is that, since the hotels are basically safe-houses, they're also a public front for the criminal underworld. They're facilities that launder criminal money and lend an air of legitimacy to its patrons (Nothing to see here, I'm just a businessman on a trip). The reason it's funny, is because to maintain that facade, they HAVE to let normies stay there also...or the illusion doesn't work. So, you wind up with some moderately wealthy family on vacation somewhere in the world, and they happen to stay at one of these exceptionally nice hotels. And you wind up with children running around and playing in the halls of a building filled with the deadliest people on Earth. Yet, they're safer there than literally anywhere else on the planet, even more than their own home. That is just...massively amusing to me.
Mayhem- "John Wick is on a murderous rampage. And if you don't have Allstate, you could be paying for all this yourselves. Get all state and protect yourself from Mayhem today."
Arguably the most BAD ASS introduction to a character ever. From Viggo's 'Oh' to Jimmy the police officer 'You uh, working again?' You know this character in those two interactions is Lord Bad Ass.
Love the scene with Jimmy - takes his hat off as a sign of respect and that he is there as a man, not a threat. *(Noise complaint? 2 or 3 visible bodies, Jimmy knows there are more he can't see). Night John.
When John sees Francis at the door of the Red Circle...Francis asks if he is here for business so when he says hes lost 60 pounds that's info for John to let him know there are about 60 guys inside the club that John has to deal with
The "doubloon" coins I don't think are worth their weight in gold...rather they represent the value of doing someone a solid favor. Like saying: "Bury a body for me, do me this solid, and someone will do you a solid favor.." The underworld trades in favors because it's a different value than dollars. They aren't worth a certain amount of cash, just a value in street cred. They should have called them "solids" because they are solid gold and worth one good favor. When Ms. Perkins gets out of her cuffs and kills Harry, she doesn't rob him, she just takes the coin because he lost street cred and she gained it. When Wick digs up his "past" in his basement, we see all of the street cred he still has and the weapons he had buried.
It really is the perfect set up to an epic revenge story, not a single one of us disagree with John. Go get ‘em, we’re here for ya. But wow, imagine reading that spec script, “you’re gonna do WHAT to the dog?!”
Perkins shooting harry is doable, in the first part of the movie he wasnt using a supressor but a compensator, he does almost all his stunts, watching the other movies would be awesome, ( no hate just passing some info)
Keanu says that he does all the action he can, but the stunts he leaves to the professional. When i first watched this i thought how unrealistic it was that he kept hitting everyone in the head. Then i watched KR do a gun challenge where he has to hit targets using a variety of weapons for time. He is really fast. That reload he does, where he flicks the spent clip out has been adopted by professional shooters to get faster times. The gold coins represent jobs done or favors within the criminal community. There are also blood markers that have to be repaid under penalty of death.
Watch the rest? In the words of Steve Austin (Pro Wrestler) (Incidentally, the Doorman "Francis" was played by Kevin Nash (WWE) the reference to 60 KG, wasn't necessarily the weight he lost, but meaning there were 60 men protecting The prick (played by Alfie Allen. who also played Theon Grayjoy.) From what I have understood by reading, Keanu does most of his own stunts, with maybe the exception where the production insurance company won't cover him. Ladies, keep on reacting to anything and everything. I am now a new subscriber. Stay safe.
In the scene where the puppy gets killed, the actor/stunt man who played the guy that killed Daisy felt so bad about it - even though he knew it wasn't real - that he adopted the dog in real life.
"Shooting in the club. How are people still dancing?" - Me: I think Ive heard a shot. Was that a shot? Why no one is screaming? [take a sip of my beer] - My friend: Yeah, it was a shot for sure. Dunno, I guess he missed. [he takes a sip of his beer] - Me: Crazy stuff, huh? [both keep drinking] But hey, here is Brazil LOL (but yeah, I thik that if someone died at the dance floor everyone would care A LOT)
Now that y'all have a love and appreciation for John Wick, you need to get the picture/art of John Wick hold a dog in the style that makes him look like Jesus or a saint and he's the protector of all dogs. It's a must have if you love John Wick. The character/story of John Wick is based off a comic
It's a great series. You should review them. Oh, and fun sidenote. At the end of the movie, when he gets the second pup. If you can read the clipboard on the cage the dog is scheduled to be put down soon. So he does save him and maybe himself!!! Great review!!!
The "doubloons" aren't exactly a currency in the movie, but a representative of favors and influence. He paid 12 coins, for a service to dispose of 12 bodies. One night at the hotel, 1 coin. Access to their private bar, 1 coin. Etc... How they get these coins is the question. It doesn't show in the movie, but people think it's always by a trade of services.
in training for the movie Keanu trained at a gun range that did three gun matches he loved the training that he does it now for fun and goes to three gun matches competing in them
Guns get hot after multiple shots, not just one, but it looked like she was trying to reduce the level of noise with a pillow. That might work with a semi-automatic, but revolvers have a gap in between the cylinder and the barrel. For that to work she would have to wrap the pillow around the cylinder and also cover the barrel.
The killing of Daisy was actually a stroke of genius for this kind of movie. With a character like John Wick being able to deliver the level of revenge that he is capable of, Daisy's death gives the writers a blank check. After that, John Wick can do no wrong.
@itzryder8409 Honestly, this may be the first time I had seen anyone suggest that people didn't pick up on what the dog represented. It's quite obvious. John Wick literally expresses it in the movie. However, many other things could have represented the same thing. If someone stole her wedding ring, would it have had the same impact on the audience? Not likely. It's the intersection of the killing of the dog AND what the dog represents that gets the audience so invested.
Really highlighted how much people like dogs more than people Movies kill off loved ones, parents, etc all the time, and no one got as mad as when Daisy was killed in this movie

Stay safe.
He did 95% of his own stunts
"Doubloons!"
Oooooooo Hanna knowing about guns sweeeeeeeeet
In the scene where the puppy gets killed, the actor/stunt man who played the guy that killed Daisy felt so bad about it - even though he knew it wasn't real - that he adopted the dog in real life.
It is Keanu Reeves doing all the stunts
He is John Wick
You can search all his training videos
John Wick is the ultimate serial killer
😹
I didn't see this one in the theater but made it a point to see all the other ones. 2 is the best one in my opinion
coins are not really used as a currency but more like a favour
Came for the movie review, stayed for the cat... 😻
As you should. She's our star. 😺😻
It just occurred to me that John could be using subsonic 9mm considering he's an assassin. But maybe I'm reading into it too much.
That clean up in the beginning of the film is about $24,000.
"Shooting in the club. How are people still dancing?"
- Me: I think Ive heard a shot. Was that a shot? Why no one is screaming? [take a sip of my beer]
- My friend: Yeah, it was a shot for sure. Dunno, I guess he missed. [he takes a sip of his beer]
- Me: Crazy stuff, huh? [both keep drinking]
But hey, here is Brazil LOL
(but yeah, I thik that if someone died at the dance floor everyone would care A LOT)
Yes, Keanu does 98% of his own stuntwork. Really a humble guy, by the way. A beautiful human being!

No creatures were harmed during the making of this reaction.
Funny how she said "he's in his 30's" about John Leguizamo. He's 59 as of now !!!
yea he does his own stun..and they actually reload the gun as per gun capacity.
The Producer of JW1 is a stuntman and John spent months learning and did ALL the Stunts in all of the JW Movies.
Thanks for watching with us!
John Leguizamo is 63 years old. He would have been 53 in John Wick 1.
My cat doesn't leave me alone, if anyone hurt him, I would go full John Wick. Anyone with a nice car or pet will understand.
Calico kitty calico kitty
😻
Love the music of the john wick part one love it very awesome song
Yes he’s done his own stuff
in training for the movie Keanu trained at a gun range that did three gun matches he loved the training that he does it now for fun and goes to three gun matches competing in them
The most difficult dog scene since The Thing.
Abby has not yet seen The Thing, but we'll likely change that state of affairs soon.
Baba yaga is a russian fairy tale of a witch who Flys about in a motar & pedestle.
If this is the 10th anniversary of John Wick, then John Leguizamo would have been 53 when he filmed this.
After that, John Wick can do no wrong.
such a good point! there is no quicker way to people’s hearts . don’t know if i would have been as much on his team if the dog thing didn’t happen
I think anyone that loves animals can empathize with how the whole franchise played out. Anyone would want to take this kind of revenge.
In my honest opinion the john wick series only gets better with each sequel which is extremely rare especially these days.
Really highlighted how much people like dogs more than people
Movies kill off loved ones, parents, etc all the time, and no one got as mad as when Daisy was killed in this movie
