    As a young RAF airman I remember being on exercise at RAF Boulmer in the late 70's, I was standing on top of a radar base when a Vulcan came in at low level from over the North Sea to simulate an attack from a Russian bomber, the sheer sight and sound of this beautiful aircraft was at the time inspiring if a little terrified over its ultimate use, the time of the cold War may be well gone, but this World has never seemed a more dangerous place than it is today.

      I fully agree. The world does seem like a far more dangerous place today than it ever did during the Cold War. As a teenager in the Seventies and hitting 20 in '81, the world did actually feel a lot safer.

    My dad used to take us to air shows all the time when we were growing up.
    I will never forget the 1st time we saw the Vulcan! I was rooted to the spot with my mouth open!
    I’d never been so in awe in my life and the roar and hum noise of the engines made my hair stand on end! It still has the same effect when I see it on video, but, will never be the same as hearing that roar in real life!
    “We came for the Red Arrows, but we always stayed for the Vulcan Bomber” is what my Dad always said.
    Beautiful work of art.💛

      I saw a Vulcan up close at the McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey in the mid-'60s. I was with my father and younger brother. It was a static display. This may have been in '66 after Thunderball (1965) showcased the aircraft. Thinking of it now, they would have flown the Vulcan out of New Jersey to the next airshow or back to Great Britain but, unfortunately, we never did see her in her element. A Harrier 'jump jet' performed that day and we were fairly close to that. I could see the Harrier's pilot clearly through the canopy.

I think they’re able to build anything from nothing doing the worse possible situation without any technology , using only their minds , producing something , resulting as a final master piece that’s impeccable & flawless ! They have proven that time & time again , but yet always maintaining their integrity , dignity and composure with a smile on their faces which they have proven before , during and after WWII , one has to love the bloody old chaps which I mean in a very good complimentary way !

    When the last Vulcan was doing a tour of the UK I was playing rugby in Manchester when she flew overhead at about 200 ft, absolutely stunning, 31 grown men sent back to being 9-year old boys 😁

    Can someone explain why the wings are shaped solid to the tail. As opposed to regular wings on normal planes

    • @tintriangledriver210
      @tintriangledriver210 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the reasons is that there are 5 fuel tanks in each wing, around 65% total fuel load.

    • @tintriangledriver210
      @tintriangledriver210 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The design requirement was focused on a weight limit. By a shorter wing span and filling in to form a delta, weight was saved but some aspects of performance suffered. One of the bonuses of the wing was the ability to turn smartly at lower weights and it could outturn fighters in some circumstances.

    • @Mr.Robert1
      @Mr.Robert1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Delta wing stile.
      All different kinds of body's and wings have been used over the years.
      All depends what its used for and who's making the most money.
