Looks great! For future retrofits I would suggest a simple 2x4 wooden frame screwed to whatever u have up there and place the foam panels inside the frame. The wooden 2x4 frame would give tons of strength by giving the foam 3x the surface area to glue it to. Great video by the way.

Just had an energy audit. Pull down cover was an issue I can resolve myself. Thanks for the how to. Easy enough.

I just installed a thermal cover that zips up, works ok but heat still comes thru the door, im thinking about adding this method on top. Should work, thanks!

Thanks for the video bro...man your attic door looks like mine ...hell of a gap..and I've been debating on replacing the whole thing but this looks like the best and cheapest route to go..

No problem. Yeah idk who installed this thing, how it got this bad, and how the previous owners loved with it in winter.

If attic door makers had a friggin' clue they'd make the door itself like 3" thick. Then none of us would have to faff about fixing our attic doors.

How wide is the attic door opening

How much did it cost for materials to make this?

I don't recall. At the time I believe I spent very little in material. Not sure if now material cost has gone up but i want to say less than $40 at the time? Not really sure, but the savings has been drastic. There was drastic difference in comfort in the house ever since.

Careful with that old attic ladder and the way they are usually installed. I have seen some pretty dangerous stuff with those hunks of junk. Aluminum with insulated door is best when you need to replace

Yeah it's pretty crap, but solid enough for now. If I do replace, that is the plan. Hopefully I'll be out of this house before then.
