Thank you for this idea! As a reseller, I reuse these mailers a lot. This will look so much nicer for my customers to receive. It's not economical as a business to do all this "work", but it will be a fun and relaxing project for me to do in my free time. A triple benefit: reuse/upcycling, beautiful packages for my customers, and a craft for me.
Just a little tip. Either use matte medium or apply a thin coat of clear gesso to the area where the label and postage stamps go as I have discovered they don’t seem to want to stick very well to the watered down PVA. Happy Creating 💕

Lovely idea, and a napkin barely adds extra weight to the package. Your decorated envelope would also make a great soft & scrunchy cover for a scrap journal. Thanks Nina x

The gesso and glue would add the majority of extra weight to it.
That was my first thought, I’m not going to send that to anyone, that would make a great journal cover.
Could you use watered down elmers glue instead of guesso or modpudge?

these are absolutely adorable!!! for those of you who don't want to use glue + water mod podge is the same thing. glue + water is the homemade recipe of it. and works excellantly.

Beautiful. I flip my white padded envelopes inside out and use them as shelf liners on my cosmetic cabinets.
I am going to do this to use as the gift covers for the gift cards I give my grandchildren. They will look lovely under the tree.

Unusual but really effective. And as well as being eco-friendly, it's something that can be done all year round depending on the image chosen. I love this idea, Nina. Many thanks as ever.
@Sally plastic isnt necessarily bad. in some cases it can be better for the environment than alternatives because its light and doesnt take much energy to produce.
And in this instance, if one upcycles this envelope because they feel bad about throwing it out, then using the napkin, paint, and glue that otherwise wouldnt be used, does mean that its a net negative for the environment. But, i think that if one uses napkins that would otherwise be thrown out and the envelope is then used to replace a new envelope or gift bag, then i would say its probably a net positive for the environment.
At the end of the day, everything you buy is bad for the environment, even 'eco friendly' things like bamboo. What matters the most is reducing the amount of stuff bought, and this craft might do that.

I have have gotten so many padded envelopes from ordering from different companys, now I know what to do esp. With my christmas packages I'm sending out! I've been using them for storage of different files & bills that I've had several communications on full of reciepts & contents from companys. You could even put holes to store in a big ringed notebook! Thanks for the great ideas!

Hello Nina, I kept this video to take care of my pile of used padded envelopes. So, I was watching and looked up on inspiration board and lo and behold the light blue napkin with birds on it is right there. I am guessing that came as happy mail. Beautiful. I had assumed they would become journal covers! You can just fold in half, put cardstock in the middle, and voila, a gorgeous cover. Love these!

Other ♻️ ideas:
- old used bubble envelopes that are in not-so-great condition can be used for packing materials for shipping
- the bubble side can be used to add paint texture to art projects
- I’ve used the white ones as insulation around my air conditioners in summer. Cut along the two sides to make a long piece, or roll them up, depending on how it fits your needs, then use white duct tape to hold it in place.
this is a great idea. i had never thought of using paper napkins for adding a pretty pattern. i always see pretty paper napkins for sale, but never buy them because i use cloth napkins at home . . . thanks for the idea!

If you wish to send these overseas or something, a sheer or very thin fabric will work too.
I often use those old thin scarfs for projects like this, or just scraps and make a patch work type cover.

Brilliant idea, as usual, Nina. I have a lot of beautiful napkins left from a massive collection of them which were sent from a very generous lady who will remain nameless and I want to use them as whole pieces and not cover them with focal pieces so this project precisely fits that bill. They are so beautiful, Nina, thank you so much for sharing your ideas again with us. I can almost feel the texture of them as you touch them. You are so inspirational. What a lovely creative idea you have presented here. I’ll be giving it a try this weekend for even Christmas packages to put under the tree. Especially those oddly shaped gifts that can just slide into this type of envelope/bag. Fun way to send gifts and happy mail to friends and family. I'm just finishing a junk journal for a friend for Christmas and I think it would be lovely to slide it into one of these instead of using the brown paper and string I usually use! I am planning same revamp on a gift bag myself. I'm also making a couple of quick holiday jars using decoupaged napkins. Decoupaged napkins and magazine pages can be used in so many ways. I simply hadn't thought to apply to padded mailing envelopes.

I like this idea a lot. One of the envelopes I needed was a beefier one and used contac paper. Now I'm trying all kinds of ideas, printing art images from the internet, etc.

What a marvelous idea Nina, I have a bunch of used padded envelopes in the drawer of mailing supplies. The envelopes you used are beautiful. I have a feeling that like most projects in my house, this too will wait until the new year. My hours at work were starting to go back to normal until two fellow employees got sick, one has pneumonia and the other is hospitalized and a third is out on bereavement leave. Mom is about the same, back to not aware of herself or anyone else, but I did have that one great day, so I keep hoping for another. Hope you are having an awesome day.❤❤
