  • We're experiencing a real peach today friends. This 1993 Pontiac Bonneville SSE is fully loaded to also include a supercharger. This is the height of Pontiac's plastic cladding efforts, and I couldn't be any more excited to review it. It's near factory fresh condition is due to it being a true one-owner car for all but 2,000 of its 167,000 mile life. It took me literal years to track down an example this clean, and I'm pumped shake it down. #pontiacbonneville #pontiac #carreview

    These were cool cars. My dad considered buying one back in the 90's.

    1993 Honda Prelude Si-VTEC 2.2L 190 HP
    I think the Grand Am of the time had more plastic body cladding. Or the Pontiac Trans Sport van!! Lol
    Some nice features on it back then!

      It's all about that torque my friend.

    Im loving the interior❤❤❤ I have been wanting a 3800 for a few years now, what a prime example. The supercharger is a big plus.

      Agreed. So comfortable yet so cool looking. The gauges are my favorite aspect. And heck yeah…supercharged 3800s are sweet.

    I like those design cues taken straight out of german competitors like Hofmeister kink, the line of rear side window near c-pillar. This car looks really nice outside.

      It’s no secret that GM was chasing Euro design at this time (maybe still today). These Bonnies have agree really well.

    9:06 - If you're not a fan of plastic cladding, perhaps you'll be interested in the Oldsmobile 88 LSS, which has the dull styling to suit your tastes. You won't get all the gadgets, but you'll enjoy the same powertrain.

    • @autoobsessivegarage

      The Pontiac abundance of plastic cladding is a running joke on my reviews and the podcast…but also one of my favorite design touches on Pontiac’s of this vintage. I also find the Olds 88 to be quite handsome.

    Had the '92 SSEi, Nice air ride. Eventually & unfortunately developed some electrical issues & rocker rust. The HUD was great & should be in every vehicle as a safety feature.

    • @autoobsessivegarage
      @autoobsessivegarage  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bummer to hear that rust got it. Agreed, the HUD is a great safety feature and cool at the same time.

    Over here in cali I got a 1998 sse non supercharged for $900! another one is selling for $700 no issues 220k miles ! They’re pretty cheap over here. Best price I found was $2,900 in la for a 8.5-9.0 condition 109k miles sse no problems. Where are you located may I ask

    • @autoobsessivegarage
      @autoobsessivegarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Those sound like fantastic prices for non supercharged examples. I'm in California and the supercharged ones are few and far between...especially in this one's mechanical and cosmetic condition.

    "Super Sedan" is a stretch with wrong-wheel drive and a 4-speed auto. It's a great cruiser, though. I'd happily take a 1992-1998 Bonneville SSEi on a long-distance road trip.

    • @autoobsessivegarage
      @autoobsessivegarage  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All my humorous takes are stretches sir. You mean to tell me the Bonneville wasn’t an M5 contender?

    • @doug6191
      @doug6191 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @autoobsessivegarage In that case, it was better than the M5. You couldn't (legally) drive the M5 any faster than the Bonneville, and M5s didn't have 500+ possible seating combinations. Not to mention the EQ on the stereo. And cheaper repairs you could do yourself.

    any way to up the power on the 93/94 ssei to match the power of the facelifted ones?

    • @autoobsessivegarage
      @autoobsessivegarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m pretty sure you can add the newer supercharger (Eaton M-90) to the older engines…you may have to tune air/fuel.

    I've got a 99 ssei in the garage with a broken transmission. After years of trying to give it away to someone interested in restoring it, it might be time for the scrapper.

    I am thoroughly surprised here. I thought that you could only get the supercharged V6 on the SSEi, and never on the SSE. Really?

    • @autoobsessivegarage
      @autoobsessivegarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve only seen two in my life. It was an option…and apparently a pretty rare one. It even came with those Supercharged badges unique to the SSE supercharged models.

    Can you tell me what is the cabin noise level doing highway driving speeds?

    • @autoobsessivegarage
      @autoobsessivegarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Compared to most vehicles I’ve driven from this era the cabin remains fairly quiet at highway speeds. There is some wind noise above 70mph or so, but nothing drastic.
